A bit of Honesty, discussion about AI art.

I have to admit I was really contemplating on posting about this topic, because I have to admit that this past few days I haven't been working on Project EVE: " :( please forgive me", and overall it feels like you're on an impasse to the feeling of its usage as an artist. Being honest, I have used midjourney in the past, via discord just a couple of times to test it out, but I didn't quite like the results + the need to spend money on credits to generate more images.

But recently as you know NovelAI/Stable Diffusion's whole system has been leaked, hence the boom of NSFW AI art recently, due to the bypass of the AI's NSFW filters.

Hopefully as we discuss more on this topic we can have a bridge of discussion between both sides, all I ask is for your patience to hear out each side's point, perhaps at the end resulting towards mutual respect.

AI artist's and the flak of being one:
- Any art forum online filters their content between "REAL" art and "AI" art, and it has since sparked a hateful sentiment on AI artists, to be fair, I believe in the proper declaration of the categorization on genres. IE. Art made by art generators should be declared as AI art and shouldn't ever be declared as traditional art by means via the artists' own process.

It is inevitable! The assimilation is real!
- At this point we are introduced with the "Software=AI," (Chat-GPT, Stable Diffusion, etc) and their use has both good and bad consequences, just using Chat-GPT makes google/googling almost obsolete, and recently with the full use of AI Art generators, makes me think that I as an artist is also doomed for the inevitable.

Michio Kaku further explains when "Hardware = Quantum Computers," become available AI will be complete. Security on encryption would be at risk, privacy undone, everything would be "FAKE NEWS!" and alot more dystopian black mirror stuff.

A designer/artist's POV on using AI Art Generators:

- "I feel like a god using one," not to exaggerate its features, but since I was a child, I dreamt of the power to use my imagination and shape it to reality, hence me being a designer/artist. But by using the generators, you technically have that super power now, here's to the benefit of bettering your vocabulary, since it requires the usage of prompts and some wee bit of programing knowledge.

- The Program and its Features: You need a fairly good GPU to use one, at least a minimum of 4GB in VRAM. As you ask. How about the AI Art Generators via online services like midjourney, nightcafe, etc? Those are fine but require a form of subscription via credits, meaning there is a limit not to mention the restricted/filtered words you cannot use. All the while the jailbreaked version has none and you have access to all of its code, to modify, to suit your needs. "COUGH! nsfw stuff. COUGH!"

- Be ready to laugh your ass off or be amazed of the art it produces: I've used it to generate ideas on furniture designs since my work deals with those things you call chairs. Honestly its underwhelming the furnishings generated as it is, is completely impractical to use, but the idea/concept it gives, and cementing that idea into paper is crucial as an artist, I myself have lost track of thousands of ideas that I thought of but didn't write on paper. It gives your imagination fuel but eventually you'll ran out and guess who's dependent on the AI now.

- Here's the JUICY PART, NSFW stuff: Just imagine the things you could do without those pesky filters that limit the prompts, imagine all of those words free for you to use? Chaos and progress, in the span of months, the bootlegged version has better art generations than those that limit their keywords, no surprise there.

- Background: Back in the 2010's, I attended the IDC (International Design Conference) its basically the gathering of all artists, from architects to watercolor enthusiasts, go to this event to discuss art stuff. All goes well and one German speaker who I forgot the name, but lit the whole place on fire spouting nonsense that artist's will be obsolete and AI is the future, Imagine a stadium filed with artists booing and laughing, I am one of those people as well that brushed off that BS. Look who's laughing now.

- I will share in a couple of days the whole installation and workflow of my journey in using AI generators, if you are itching to use it now and can't wait. Refer to this.

IF YOU DONT HAVE A GOOD GPU: But you still want to generate NSFW stuff? Well mage.space has got you covered, it is generally free, though the NSFW requires a monthly subscription, but the catch is the generation is unlimited on the duration of your subscription. I have used the service and the mods are helpful.

FAIR WARNING! IT IS A RABBIT HOLE! It goes on and on like reddit, you won't realize that you've been awake for 16 hours! working on the perfect/just right prompts for you generations.

If everybody only spoke within their sphere of competence, internet would be a lonely place. Much happier, surely, but pretty empty.

That's the fun part of theoretic's and also the sad part, learning of its possibilities/probability, but knowing that we may not be there when it is possible.

I respect Michio Kaku a lot, but I think as a physicist he is speaking a bit outside his field here. I like his futuristic outlook, but he always exaggerates a lot in terms of what is possible within realistic timeframes.

I'm about the same. However, this has indeed led to some painters being squeezed out of their role by AI, possibly due to the current economic downturn in the world, which has not led to an outbreak of artistic works, resulting in the current results. Perhaps the cost of games and animations is still too high, and it is difficult for a person to do them on a regular basis if they are not full-time.

I mean no offense, I follow Michio Kaku and his theories and ideas on the future to come, just so happens he's on Rogan. Basically in the interview, Michio explains in laymans terms if and when quantum computing becomes available, AI would be so powerful that it could reach consciousness.

Hexerotica

Setting aside the completely nonsensical sci-fi babble in that interview you linked. Do you really want to platform Joe Rogan of all people?

Catenby

I'm in a similar boat. Many ideas I'd love to see realized somehow, but not good enough artist/writer to get satisfying enough results. I played around with AI image and story generators but these were only experiments and I wouldn't dare to post them anywhere without a proper rework.

CrazyChemist

As a person with imaginative thinking and no systematic learning of painting, AI painting is like a tool for me to realize the world I imagine in my mind. After encountering some games, I became dissatisfied with the character contact in the game and began to create my own. AI painting is a very good stage for people like us to turn text into painting and display it. Of course, I think the response below also has some reference value because our standards vary. Many people just post pictures without even making fine corrections, coloring, or reducing burrs. This is indeed a part that still needs to be discussed. Optimistically speaking, our thinking and creativity are reaching a new level; Pessimistically speaking, using AI synthesis will reduce crime to an incredibly low cost, which is also a fact. It depends on how you choose.
