Monthly Brief - March

Hello patrons, fans, and people who aren't quite sure how they got here, I'm Hallows and its time for our March Monthly Brief.

On the agenda this time is giving you a sneak peak at some of what we've been working on recently, what we're doing this month, and also some allusions to something secret coming up. So let's get right into it.

What've we been up to?

The short answer is plenty, the longer and more informative answer is a lot of background work. Troubleshooting the character creator, testing dialogue prompts within the open world, making sure quest flags are triggering correctly, drawing backgrounds and UI elements. A lot of it isn't super exciting to show without context, but there is something I can show right now.

These are two screenshots from a sort of opening cinematic we've made to set the tone before the game begins. There's some easter eggs in there to tease some themes and plot points we'll be introducing as the game comes along, as well as some things which are there just because it's dumb, funny, or both. The cinematic is skippable for those who want to get right into it, but it's there for those who want to vibe a little before the game begins.

And here is a background Duski just finished, for the battle area of the arcade; "The Pit"

The first picture in this post shows the actual scene of the first battle the player lands in as part of the introduction!

What are we up to?

The major focuses this month are implementing events, quests, and dialogue trees that we've worked on into the game, as well as working on the next batch to be implemented. Duski's attention is on the introductory scenes, and how the player spends their first day in Burgville, while I'll be implementing something of an underwear fetch quest for Remy and a boatload of casual dialogue with Lena. Depending on how quickly we can clear those, there's also work still to do on the combat system, but that's taking a back seat to the art & writing this month and might not get onto our plates until April.

We're also working on something top secret but that will likely be in its own post further down the line. We don't want to spoil what it is before we have something to show off.
