Monthly Brief - May 2020

Hello hello hello!

As we mentioned in the April Debrief, we're bookending months with briefs and debriefs now. Towards the end of the month we'll put out a debrief for our patrons talking about what we've been up to throughout the month, and how progress is looking. Meanwhile briefs come at the start of the month, and we'll be talking about what we're doing this month.

So what are we up to?

I'm glad you asked. On the business end of things we're going to be putting the Sanguine Rose Steam build up on Itch. This is good news for Android users! We'll have more info on this closer to the publishing date.

Moving onto Joystick Bliss, we're pretty excited. Duski's cracking on with the character creation art. We're trying to introduce a lot of customisability right off the bat, and I'm optimistic that the experience I have layering Duski's art for the Sanguine Rose sprite expressions will translate well to Unity. Realistically it'll need a lot of tweaking, but hopefully we'll have something to show by the end of the month. That's not all though, now that Duski's wrapped up the first pass of Emotes for all the new NPCs we currently have, I can start implementing more full conversations. This is great stress testing for the Overworld, Quest, and Dialogue systems, as they all need to interact constantly for the game to feel right. It also lets me write conversations, which is what I really enjoy doing. I'm confident we can release a small teaser of these new character interactions by the end of the month, a mini-project I'm tentatively naming "Meet the Girls" although that'll have to be renamed after Duski starts introducing men into the cast (did we mention that's going to be a thing? That's going to be a thing).
