Hmmm, the tapestry that is each character reveals more of itself. Still not cool of River though in my opinion. If anyone would be sympathetic about that sort of thing I'd assume it's them. Then again they might just be done with his shit. Doesn't make it okay though.

a story is good if characters aren’t perfect and have quirks and flaws, this is a great panel because it demonstrates a quirk/flaw of river. The scene with andy in the bedroom is great because it demonstrates something about andy. Don’t make the story be fan service for you personally, let it be whatever the author intended to create

I don't think it was intentional either but in the end it will have worse consequences. Plus one of the hardest things about a secret is keeping it a secret, if it doesn't come out now it will later on, most likely by mistake. I agree, a lot of it is in Coop's head, if he could just talk to them I think he'd be quite surprised. Though now that may be out of reach. Also I'm thinking River is really into Coop. The denying it part like that just proves it more.

Yeah, that wasn't the smartest thing on River's part, even if it wasn't intentional or without malice. Plus lying to Coop is going to have some bad consequences, he's just too fragile right now for that. If he finds out or one of them spill the beans to him or Andy Coop is going to go into a meltdown and everything that has been accomplished will be gone in an instant. He will lose trust in everyone around him.

I thought they were all just high but it’s almost like they were TRYING to be queer positive in that moment to reassure Coop

I feel this can both one of two ways, or a bit of both. Their gossiping could lead to Coop's friends growing more accepting and ready for Coop's coming out moment, but it may also come back around to erode the trust Coop is able to hold in River. Hopefully River just doesn't take it too far, since it does feel like they have Coop's best interest at heart.

Yes River spilled some tea, but I don't think it was intentionaly cruel... You don't give a gift like that and not care about the persons well-being. I think it's a case of party lips being a little too loose. In the light of the new day I think they realized it. That's why they glossed over what had been said. The more important part is no one was overly surprised or cared Coop had a gay side... Just who it was with. 😁

This is a great page BTW, every so often a dialogue heavy page like this is really nice to have to drive along the story in different ways. I also love the awkward furry addition to the stock image lol! Great stuff Jack!

Oh River, you're such a sly dog! So I'm guessing that River might surmise that Cooper is a bottom based on hearing him scream, "I've never been pumped from behind before!" This was such a fun page to read! I can't wait to see River's and Gary's reactions after Chelsea brings up "the incident."

I mean, it's not like love triangles aren't compelling and interesting. Forcing a character to look at their values, regardless of the actual characterization of the other two triangle points, helps us look at ourselves. We think about when we have to make those decisions or have been on the other end of the triangle, waiting for an answer. We all subconsciously make decisions about who we like, who we don't like, and the complexity, especially in a story, helps us relate to all the characters. Whether it remains Platonic between River and Cooper, OR if they explore more, they go poly, There's the Candy Ship with some River on the side, or just Cooper x Andy... It'll all be interesting. And fun : ). Because these *are* complex characters, all of them. That's the beauty of this comic, and why I think Jack Is such an incredible storyteller. Additionally, a Mary Sue / Gary Stue archetype character would imply is depicted to have no flaws, or no character dynamics. Such characters leave no room for growth for themselves. River is a motormouth, definitely will and can spill beans they shouldn't, has a temper. And on the flip side, they are thoughtful, incredibly hard working, doing anything they can to pursue their dreams, mindful of things other people need to hear, are sassy, flirty... I have seen mary a Gary Stew in furry comics, and you might be able to make more of an argument for this with someone like Gary or Jenn, (who are side characters and less screen time). But Riv? Naw. I don't think so.
