Added a pot initially for position control feedback, you can just see it on the left. Works very well with a good degree of accuracy. I’ve just run the first Arduino controlled movement but I only had L298N driver to hand (2amps max) so the motor blew it almost immediately as I suspected. I’ve just ordered a 43amp driver from eBay which should come in early next week. The motor is fast and powerful (a bit too fast and powerful) but I suspect with a good speed controller we can bring it under control. Then it’s playing with PID library to get a smooth lift and drop. I am going to redesign the frame and gearing, this is a proof of concept but I think I can take 20mm off and 80mm off the other side to create a compact little unit. I did say this is a long design... I’m also starting the large format body (3 rings) which for you 500 printers will make the body incredibly easy. I’ll also add some space on the inside but rest assured it will be compatible with all the other modules. Onwards and upwards :-)

Also a little cooler today in the UK which makes designing easier.

Happy printing,

I am so excited about the large format body, let me know if I can help in any way.

Great design. I've just got my first 3d printer and looking forward to giving R2 a go. Should be fun
