Patreon Tier/Goal Updates
Added 2021-08-30 20:03:38 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
I've made some adjustments to how the Patreon tiers work. You can go to the page now to see the options, but I wanted to explain some of what's going on in a post to make sure it's all clear.
First up, why change things up?
I'm undergoing an experiment to try and make this my full-time job. Before I try to bring a bunch of new support in, I wanted to overhaul the options new patrons would find when they came in, and incentivize more support for the channel. And of course, all of you are welcome to reconsider your patronage and pledge at whatever tier you see fit.
So what's changing?
On the surface, not much. I'm not radically overhauling the tiers or anything. But I am adding a few things:
1) A new $20 tier that grants access to Game Club discussions. The current $30 tier for Game Club will remain where it is, and pledges at that level will be the ones picking the games for the monthly Game Club meetings. But I'm adding a smaller tier, at $20 a month, for people who'd like to play the games and participate in the meetings without choosing games themselves. This is accompanied by a solidified timeslot for Game Club discussions (9pm EST, third Tuesday of every month), as well as an extra voice channel in the Discord server where members are welcome to discuss the current game at any point.
2) A new $50 tier that's a bit more experimental. Members of this tier (up to six) will be part of monthly (online) tabletop RPG sessions. I'll DM using the Monster of the Week system, and each session will take place in the established universe of a beloved video game series. The possibilities here are effectively endless: Mass Effect, Persona, Ace Attorney, Trails, Halo, Elder Scrolls, whatever.
This tier is as high as it is because, frankly, it takes a LOT--and I mean a LOT--of work on my part to maintain. So much that it's also something of a hopeful measure. If I end up making my full-time goals, I'll be able to keep this up, but it simply won't be possible if I also have to work a full-time job. This is why the tier specifies that this benefit will go for two months--two Monster of the Week sessions in two video game universes--and will continue from that point only if I have reached my goals to continue working on this series as my full-time job. So at worst, it's a temporary benefit, after which those who pledge at that level will have the option to adjust their pledges. But at best, I'll keep it going indefinitely.
These are the two major changes. There have also been updates to the goals, though that's not nearly so consequential; mostly they've simply been rearranged based on this new full-time goal I'm hoping to reach. I also added a goal to analyze another JRPG, because I really want to do Lost Odyssey and figure if I get to a certain point that'll be worth it.
The changes are live now, and in two days (Wednesday, September 1st 2021) I'll upload a video explaining the situation and calling viewers to support the show if they can. So if any of you want the limited tiers, you have a two-day head start!
I'm really working hard to make this series something worth watching, subscribing to, and supporting on Patreon. Because it's been an absolute joy working on it and devoting all this time and energy to it. So if any of this tickles your fancy and you want to alter your pledge, go for it! And if not, that's fine too, because all your support is what makes this even remotely possible in the first place.
Thanks as always, you all are the best. See you around!
