Paint it black
Added 2020-01-31 01:08:06 +0000 UTCThe majority of today's work was all about black. Some time ago, I made a resolution. I stopped using black paint. I'd found that when I used black from the tube, my paintings would automatically become overwhelmed with it. They looked moody, flat, and too dark. I'm not opposed to dark colors, and you can see very dark colors in my paintings. But for years, there's been no tubes of black in my color palette. Until today! Even so, I used it sparingly. I began building the colors of the black bow with other blends: burnt umber, ultramarine blue, violet, and a touch of white. Many varieties of this combination were layered, each one leaning more heavily into one or the other of the dark shades in the mix. I love the subtleties and variations within all colors. Black was no exception today! Very carefully, I used touches of Mars Black to deepen and flatten key areas of the bow.
