This morning, my dog Inigo and I, went to do our chores outside: watering the garden and feeding the chickens. He seemed to be a bit agitated, his nose to the ground, searching out some unseen event. I spotted the deer I saw yesterday. She was hiding in the tall shrubs, but keeping near an old shed. Inigo must have gotten too close, and she ran. With a graceful leap, she cleared the fence. He followed her to the fence, and took his "alert" stance.
I became a little concerned when the deer came back over the fence toward the dog. But he maintained: his body making a long line toward his nose that pointed to something small. He waited to get my attention. What I saw was this tiny fawn, stuck in the fence.
The fawn couldn't follow his mother. With a little help, and a loud baby deer objection, its head was freed. It very quickly ran toward its mother, and they disappeared into the thick woods.
