This week I bring to you something I've been working on for quite awhile, Modular Magic Weapons! A 29 page catalog of sorts that lists the various components required for each weapon listed in the PHB and the accompanying magical components that could replace such components, so a player can pick and choose and make their own unique magical weapon!
For example, if a player wanted a magical Dagger, they could choose from its various components; being the Blade, Handle, Guard, as well as an Amplifier if they so choose. Depending on how much gold the player has to spend, they can create a very powerful weapon with a number of unique properties, or if they perhaps are a little limited on their budget, get a very powerful magical blade but have minor enchantments for its amplifier and hilt; or get no enchantments at all for the other components! Just an example, a player could have a Swiftstep Illusionbane Dagger with an Ironhand Handle; a dagger that excels at cutting through illusions and dashing through the battlefield, that can never be taken from the player's hands!
This guide is primarily made to be used as a way for players to get excited and get to make their own magic item keeping in mind costs and their resources, but this can also be used by the DM to take components to create the blueprints of their very own magical weapon, or even take just some smaller components and use those by themselves for a lower rarity magic item, like a Common or Uncommon weapon!
Furthermore, if you don't want your players to have access to making their own magic weapon from the ground up, you can always take just a few options from various components and offer just those components in a magic item shop, so players will still have choice and agency in their magic items; but it won't be as free as making their own magic weapon from the ground up.
