Remember when fashion blogging was a thing? Wait, is it still a thing and I just don’t know because blogging isn’t a thing anymore? Is blogging still a thing? Is anything I enjoyed from my teens and twenties on the internet still a thing?

GUESS WHAT:

THIS WEEK I’M A FASHION BLOGGER.

Sunday, October 17

Dress: Effie’s Heart (bought new $109)

Shoes: Cole Haan Cassidy Bootie (Gift)

Tights: God only knows, I’ve had them for years and there’s multiple clear nail varnished runs in them.

The dress caught my eye on a mannequin in a store that I’ve never been able to afford before, but I went in anyway because… look at it. LOOK AT IT. I texted Matt from the dressing room asking “Can I spend $109 on a dress?” I was fully expecting him to reply “Sweetie… :( “ but instead he asked to see a picture and then he responded “Yes, that is worth it” so now I have the most expensive dress I’ve ever bought and I am getting! my! money’s worth!!!! The shoes were a gift from my dad, maybe a decade ago? He bought them for me while we were browsing U Village in Seattle and even though I don’t wear heals and I definitely don’t wear orange ones, they caught my eye and he encouraged me to try them on. The Moens are not very good at expressing emotions (The last time I told my dad “I love you” was after he called to let me know my uncle, his older brother, had briefly died, been artificially revived, and was now in a coma with no expectation for improvement. At the end of the call I told him “Hey dad, I love you” and after a startled pause he answered “…Thank you” then a second pause followed by “You too.” That was several years ago. My uncle, miraculously, recovered.) so a fancy pair of shoes is the material substitution for those three fraught words.

Monday, October 18

Jacket: First (free at a queer clothing exchange party two weeks ago)

Hoody: No brand tag ($10ish? On clearance at TJ Max)

Dress: Forever 21 ($3-5ish secondhand from Goodwill)

Tights and socks: All my tights are the same story, I’ve just always had them and they all have holes that are lacquered over with clear nail polish. The socks are new, though! $3 brand new at Goodwill, which does sell a limited amount of new basic items like socks and leggings and umbrellas)

Shoes: Kadi Maya $30ish new online (The zipper on one doesn’t work anymore so it’s a bit of an ordeal to work my foot in and out of it)

Today is my first day wearing my bisexual black leather jacket out in the world! Right now! I’m on the bus headed downtown with a new-old secondhand cintiq from eBay in my backpack to continue setting up my new desk space at Helioscope! I’ve missed riding the bus. Did the bus miss me? Did the bus know I’m bi before? IT DOES NOW.

Dress: Skunkfunk (gift from my dad, from that same trip in Seattle where he bought me those orange shoes over a decade ago)

Shoes: Worn off the brand name years ago (Xmas gift from Matt, over a decade ago. I really hold on to my shoes, huh? The little wooden heels on these guys have been worn down to the ground twice and getting them repaired is how I met my friend Jessica, who fixes all my footwear at Derek’s Shoe Repair. She’s super handy and can tackle basically any kind of leather and clothing hardware issue as well! Plus she always has the best hair. The first time she took my shoes, we just naturally fell into a big old conversation and I left thinking “We could be friends, maybe???” So when I came back the next week to pick up my boots, we fell into another actual conversation and I told her “I’m not hitting on you and this is my phone number. I’d love to get a coffee with you but it’s totally ok if I never hear from you and I promise I won’t bring this up again.” That was some years ago now and I’m invited to her wedding that’s coming up so I think it all worked out ok.)

Fashion Intermission to bring you this update from Stink Street:

The Fence Gap remains under surveillance. Will keep you posted on any breaking developments.

Dress: Venus new $50 (Instagram targeted advertising works!)

Shoes: ???

Ok real talk: I keep buying/acquiring dresses/tops with GINORMOUS neck… cowls? Neck baggage? Neck sleeves? I DON’T KNOW and I DON’T KNOW HOW TO WEAR THEM. I mean, they look great in production photos- hence why I keep adding them to my collection- but when it comes to actually putting them on and arranging those folds of fabric, it’s just a big fluffing-guessing game and more often than not my neck looks like it’s being consumed by knitwear labia.

You know what? I was going to wait till the end of the week before posting this but it’s only Wednesday I have already written… a LOT.

Woops.

In the interest of keeping my posts a reasonable reading length, I’ll post what I’ve already compiled up to this point and then start a fresh post to document the rest of this week’s outfits.

If you’re reading this in your email, click through to the actual post so you can see the extra photos I added into Patreon’s gallery carousel thing.
