You’ll Love Her Different
Added 2020-10-08 20:51:15 +0000 UTC“Tiger” is the name she came with but I’m hoping Tig (Notaro) or Tiggy might become a good fit.
Because of Flapjack, I have permanently conflated "being an asshole" with "having a personality" and so far Tig does not have a personality 😤 She hasn't hissed at us or tried to bite or claw us, so I think she may be defective??? We may have to return her to the Humane Society and ask for a non-broken cat.
But first, I’m going to stroke her sweet head and listen to her purr and delight every time she squeeks out her tiny, barely audible mew when she greets Matt or me after we’ve left the room for a while. She’s clambered up our shoulders without warning and draped herself across the top of the books lined up on the shelf. She rolls over to expose her soft, little tummy at us, even though she’s still recovering from a spaying that didn’t go great. But she trusts us to touch her there and lets herself nod off next to us.
“What if I never love her as much as I still love Flapjack?” I texted my friend while my heart was hurting.
“It's like any love. It's just different. Never the same.” She told me. “You won't love her like you did Flapjack. You'll love her different.”

Second cat phase: what the fuck, how is this a cat it is SO FRIENDLY. And yet... I miss Ellie, despite her grouchy demeanor, for all the reasons I would never miss when Pip when goes. Enjoy the differences!

Main reason I don't have a cat is that I travel a bit too often (well, when the world isn't ... you know), but also I wonder if that's my excuse for not eventually having the hurt of losing them again. Ah well, at least I've still got some part time kitties when I'm on vacation visiting family in Bulgaria. I'm often there in peak kitten season, and spending a good chunk of my vacation socializing barn kittens is very rewarding. Instead of being skittish or even dangerous, they end up as both working cats and pets. I'm actually going there for my way too late summer vacation next week, and my dad who is already down there said that one of "my" kitties from 3 years ago figured out how to get from his home to our place, and now regularly hangs around demanding cuddles. So that's an extra thing to look forward to.

2020-10-09 00:09:32 +0000 UTCaww what a sweet little kitty. i understand what you mean. my cat that i love so much died in february and i brought a new cat into my family in june. and i worry that i wont love her as much. i worried because they are very different cats. but i can already tell i love her differently but still love her so much. its an adjustment when they behave differently than what youre used to. but im glad you found such a sweet cat.

And then his wife was mad at him because the kid kept saying his plush tiger was named "Tig Bitties".

Last week my cat suddenly started acting sick and withdrawn (hiding in the corner, not eating, etc) and then I discovered she was bleeding from her nether regions. I was so physically ill, and exhausted while we waited for the vet appointment. I kept thinking about how I wasn't ready for my 11-year-old baby to die, and was crying seeing her in pain. I relate to the pain of trying to imagine a new pet - how could I possibly love any other cat the way I love this precious girl? Anyway, when the day finally came for the vet to see her, we learned she had a burst abscess that should heal on its own (with some TLC and a cone to protect her from herself). A week later, she's healing up really fast, and acting like her old self again. I'm so thankful for every minute I still have with her, and I feel like I am not taking her cuddles and her company for granted. May we all hold closely those dearest to us, and treat them gently. May we welcome new and different loves into our lives, even though our hearts still hurt when we miss the ones who have passed. ❤️

2020-10-08 21:25:22 +0000 UTC😻 What a stunner! I remember someone saying that to cats and dogs humans must be like elves, they live so long and know so much it's like they've been around forever. In that vein, they get to be with us for a long, long time and would love knowing that the pets that come after them will get to be with this wonderful being for their whole lives too.
