Book Progress - Let's Talk About It - Six Page Preview

Jesus, I didn't realize how much work we'd done until Matt showed me this graphic.

Oh, uh! For those that don't know: We're working on an original graphic novel for Random House Graphic called Let's Talk About It. It's a guide specifically for teenagers about how to think and talk about sex and relationships, both on their own and with others. We do cover some of the regular sex education genital maintenance stuff, but the purpose of Let's Talk is much more about helping a teen figure out what feels right for them with their body and relationships and how to talk with others about it so everybody can make healthy, informed decisions about what they do or don't want to pursue. This is the reason why we've been posting so many more guest comics for the last year, it's to allow us time to work on this guy.

I posted the book pitch we used to get this project picked up by our publisher here (for our $5 patrons), and Maria Frantz has been helping enormously by translating our scripts into page layouts, so I have a head start on getting the pages drawn without having to figure out where everything needs to go first ;) Oh wait, maybe I should explain how this book is getting made in the first place. Ok: 1) Matt writes the initial script, 2) I edit and add my bullshit in, 3) Script is sent to our editor Whitney Leopard and Director Gina Gagliano at RHG for feedback 4) Once the script is approved, Maria Frantz does a rough sketch of how the script translates onto the comic page, 5) I make my adjustments (if needed) and draw the final art, and then 6) Matt colors.

RHG has very graciously permitted Matt and me to share the first six pages of our Talking Sex chapter with our patrons! We all super appreciate that you will not repost these pages and understand that this is still a work in progress, these may not wind up being the FINAL-final pages that make it into the published book. Thank you so much for being cool about this!

Phew! Ok!

How'dja like that sneak peek? Or is it peak? I can never remember. I think "peak" means the top of a thing and "peek" means to look at something? If only there were a repository of knowledge that I could electronically tap into to confirm this. Maybe someday technology will provide such a resource.

Thank you all so much for being here and supporting my Patron. Without your patronage, we couldn't afford to hire all the extra guest comics that allow us to take time away from OJST in order to work on this book. So really, you folks are not only funding OJST comics, you're funding this project as well. What I'm saying is: WE LITERALLY COULD NOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU 😭😭😭

Phew, ok. Ok, ok, ok.

I'm out.

Um, you might remember me; we've corresponded a couple times in the pastβ€”you might remember me quoting you in my grammar blog a while back. If you ever have a language question, shoot me an email and I'll answer as soon as I see the email. I said it before, but I'll say it again: I like your stuff and wish you the best.

This is going to be so great! Love the preview!
