We moved in to our house six years ago and proceeded to never touch the backyard, aside from the occasional lawn mowing.

This used to be a raspberry patch, left over from the previous owners, but I didn't tend to it and it reached the end of its lifespan while the lawn proceeded to expand its domain up and over the perimeter barrier they'd made around it.

Earlier this week we had our 100+ year old house's crumbling brick chimney dismantled which means we had the perfect material to line our garden edges. Some of them are pretty scabby lookin', but eh! It all kind of evens out in the wash. Or, the lining of the garden path, I should say.

Like so!
We've got plans to further extend this... uh... bark path? around the rest of the garden area. Ultimately we wanna get rid of the entire lawn but, y'know, you can only do so much in a weekend.

Pretty fuckin' idyllic, right?

I took the above photo this morning and when I came home I found two---TWO!!!---squirrels going to town on that exact plant, ripping it apart and DIGGING OUT THE ROOTS. Like. ACTIVELY digging it out of the ground! WHAT THE HELL.

RIP.
But, I digress.
One last look at the before picture:
