Quick Update - Real Life 2, It's Good News
Added 2021-07-14 19:26:29 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
Thank you all for the well wishes and kind words.
My dad has had around five surgeries and will need around four months to recover, but it looks like the worst has passed as of last night. He has a good chance now, all he has to do is recuperate. We have about one more week until he's in the clear, but it looks hopeful.
For those that were wondering what happened, my dad had a fungal infection on his heart that destroyed one of his heart valves and was pumping bacteria throughout his body. He walked into the hospital and was, at that point, suffering from systemic organ failure: his kidneys, lungs, immune system, and his body's ability to control temperature had all shut down. I... I really don't know how he walked in, or drove himself to the hospital. By all accounts, he should have been dead for like a week. I will be finding a different primary care doctor for him after this - I don't know how that quack didn't see this coming sooner.
When I first heard the news, I was shook up pretty bad. He was in critical condition for the first five days and I wasn't sure if I should start making funeral arrangements since a lot of his friends and extended family would want to fly in. I've lost so many people I was close to this past year that it's really just me and my parents now. Everyone else that ever saw me grow up is gone, which is wild to think about.
Anyway, I'm rambling.
I've been very busy because I was his designated emergency contact, so I've been the one distributing the information to the rest of his family, all of which live out of state, and signing consent forms for the doctors for the procedures. With him now solidly in recovery, I just need to coordinate the visitation times with everyone.
I should start making headway with Superheroes Suck more regularly next week, and then I should be back to full time development the week after.
I'm not planning a delay, since I didn't have to go out of town for this, but the next update will be smaller due to the lost time. We'll called it Version 0.875. It should still have important content, just not as much.
Thank you for all of your support,
~Solace

2021-07-15 14:23:23 +0000 UTCThat is great news about your father being in recovery. You might think about a second primary care doctor. It never hurts to get more than one opinion. It basically goes like this. The better questions you ask, the better care you get. Go around and ask the different doctors who is the best with this particular problem. Get a referral and go have a consultation. You may have to do that several times. The biggest thing is don't get discouraged and be persistant. I'm really glad to hear that he is recovering but that doesn't mean he is out of the woods yet, he still has a long way to go. It could take months before he is back on his feet. I wish you good luck with all of this and your father a quick recovery.
