[Progress Report]: 30th of May

Hey everyone,

I'm happy to report that I've fully recovered from that fall I took around twelve days ago, and that progress on Version 0.85 is going well! This is going to be a bit of a strange update; I'm anticipating a lower amount of events, around 7-8, because I'm going to be focusing on adding three "new" characters to the game. These events should be larger on average, though! Parenthesis because these were always planned, but I've recently acquired one of the models and the assets I want (like hair) for them.

Why three new characters? Well, one of the goals of Superheroes Suck's second act is to introduce all of the major players in the game's story, characters that are much more like the four heroines in terms of importance than, let's say, the bartender or barista you've met once (so far). If you recall, I did my first pass on two of those characters during one of the previous versions. That means you'll finally get to meet the much vaunted hero suit designer, Shiro Nakamura!

Okay, I know none of you care about that. The other two will be fully romance-able ladies that I hope you'll like. No spoilers on who they are at the moment, but I'm really excited to show them off in the next version.

I'd also like to address any concerns over the game having too many characters. I know you guys would love for me to put in hundreds of well-fleshed out characters if I could, but character development would slow to a crawl if I were just handing out one new event every six weeks. So, in our standard FAQ format:

How many more main characters will Superheroes Suck have?

Three. I am still looking for models for the last two villains and one unmentioned character I know you all will love. You'll meet her towards the middle part of Act 2. Their part in the story hasn't come up yet, so I'm not in a huge hurry to shove them out the door.

How many more side characters will Superheroes Suck have?

One and a half. I need to do touch-ups on one character, and I would like to put in the city's Mayor. Past that, many some generic one-offs, but I don't really count those. I don't do a lot of customization for them, and so it's all about buying a suitable uniform.

How long do you predict Act 2 will last?

Holy heavens, I really don't know. At the very, very least, until 2022. I have a lot planned for the game, and that's just the main story stuff. I still have content I need to deliver on the side characters, functionality with the in-game objects, and at some point I'm going to need to take a two to three week break and finally map out Nierhaven for you guys to interact with. I've had plans to expand the "sandbox" element of the game for ages, but I really don't know how much development time it would take to create the assets and code it. I'd like to add more content before I do something like Version 0.75 again and just overhaul the engine. Save game compatibility is still a priority.
