Drawing Reference

Just a little side-by-side between the photo reference and what I drew from it ¯ \_(ツ)_/¯

Normally I ride my bike in to my studio while Matt works from home, it's rare to have him in, so I took advantage of this opportunity to have him post for some reference shots with me. The day before I'd had my studiomate Fred Chao stand in to get a picture-- this one:

-- which was fine! We all pose for each other and sometimes that involves holding, hugging, and spooning our studiomates for the sake of a reference photo. We're all happy to do it, but there is always a very subtle awkwardness to it when we have to get into these more intimate positions. At least, there is for me.

"Why not take all these pictures at home with your husband?" Because I do all my drawing at the studio and take the photos as I need them. If I were more responsible I'd do my stick figure layouts first at my office and then take all my pictures when I return home to Matt, but when I come back at the end of the day I'm just so... tired. Work is over, work is done. Lemme eat dinner on the couch while watching a show with my husband, maybe I'll embroider a bit, and then it's off to bed. Sweet, sweet bed.

Then it's off to work again in the morning!

I'm really excited about the comic I'm drawing right now, the one that'll go up on Tuesday. It's more of a "story" comic than a review or explanation, and it's very personal. Those are the ones I like doing best ♡

Unfortunately it's six pages and I've only finished drawing three, which means this weekend will be spent conquering the rest even though it's stupidly beautiful outside and I wanna go plaaaaaaaaay in the sun. I hope you guys're taking the weekend off! I'm gunna slam through these last three pages as fast as I can and hopefully I'll get to have a little downtime before we start the next comic on Monday. Wish me luck!
