The Little Things in Life

Haha, ok, this is so silly, but...

So last night was the first time I used Patreon's "Schedule a Post" feature for the annoucement about Genvieve FT's lingerie guest comic . And... and it WORKED. The post posted automatically!!

Normally when you guys get an update from me, it's cos I JUST wrote it and JUST hit 'send'.

Which means my normal routine on an Update Day is to wake up, write a Patreon post, and then notify Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook of the new comic. And because they all have different formats, I have to alter my message length and mark-up language for each one.

It sounds simple, right? On paper it looks pretty easy! Just... write a sentence, hit update. No brainer. BUT IT TAKES UP SO MUCH TIME. Like, I don't understand the physics of it, but it takes SO MUCH LONGER THAN YOU THINK IT SHOULD. And it also... oh god, you are fully entitled to judge me for this, but... IT TAKES UP SO MUCH BRAIN ENERGY. Like, the re-configuring each annoucement bit. And throughout the day on Twitter, I post 3-4 times about the new comic and I try to have something new to say each time. That doesn't sound like much, but it really does take up a lot of thinkin' for me!

Ok, ok, ok, and I knoooooow there's programs that'll automate some of this. Lucy and Dylan keep telling me to get If This Then That  so I won't have to manually update each account.

But... but that means learning a whole new Thing :| So I keep putting it off and off and off. I mean, it's on my To Do list. Where it has been for the last year. Safe n' sound.

Alright, anyway. The point of this post is to say that I wrote the update for the lingerie comic last night and then it posted automatically and it felt just... just lovely. That's all. That's seriously why I made a whole new post to tell you guys about it. It just felt so lovely.

Haha, ok, and then when I logged in to Patreon to tell you about this ridiculous nugget of joy? Patreon had that message pop up, the one that I've screenshot and attached to this post.

I've written fucking 213 fucking patrons-only posts on here????? Fucking WHAT.

Fucking. What.

Alright, Happy Tuesday!

Yuuuuup, that totally makes sense! IFTTT *can* be great, but it's not perfect and it definitely takes some time to finesse. Hootsuite can be a good cross-posting tool as well; I think there's a bajillion similar tools out there but gosh I have a hard time adopting any of them. I don't think any of us would begrudge you using more automation if it means more time to brain for art! (I'm hella excited about the scheduled posts feature too.)

It DOES take up so much brain energy!! It's ridiculous! Updating the GWS chasers (they're just OLD STRIPS!) takes me a good half hour per post, because I've committed myself to coming up with a title, a hover text joke (that I can only hope will be funny), tags (including joke tags when I can), and a little blog entry, and THEN to tweet about it. To write all that about ONE STRIP that I wrote and drew eight years ago... whew, it's a lot!! So, anyway, you're not alone!
