It was Sunday night at 10:30pm and I was FINALLY DONE with drawing the Stag review. The legs on the deer were a... little? off? But, like I said, it was 10:30pm on Sunday and I rounded them up to GOOD ENOUGH. Did I mention it was Sunday? At 10:30pm? And I hadn't had a weekend off in a couple weeks?
The next day I got to my office and saw a text from Matt saying something along the lines of 'honey, sweetie, my love, WHAT THE HELL' Turns out those stag legs weren't "good enough"
"Ask Steve to help you," Matt suggested when I whined about how hard it is to draw horse-type animals. And lo! Steve Lieber grabbed a paper out of the recycling bin, flipped it over, and with a giant, thick sharpie he busted out this anatomically accurate construction of a deer in two seconds without even looking up a photo first.
"I drew a western series for a while" He explained while I spluttered in disbelief.
So! With the guidance of Steve's sketch and some more careful observation of reference photos (funny how your mind is more perceptive when it's not 10:30pm on a Sunday night), I drew up the legs you can now find in the finished comic.
And then I went on Christmas vacation! Last week's comic and tomorrow's are both guest strips and oh my goooooooshhhhhhhh these last two weeks were so fucking good. I embroidered like a motherfucker and even painted a little! And mostly? Mostly I read books and drank tea and snuggled my cat when he would permit me to do so.
Today's my first day back at work and I actually feel... rested? A script that I have been dreeeeaaaading working on was actually really enjoyably challenging to write. Like, dang. It was fun. I think it's a pretty solid script. Huh! Go figure, you take a couple weeks off and your creative juices get replenished? WHO KNEW.
Alright my lovelies, gotta get back to work!
Mwah mwah,
Erika
