code geass is so good and got me into anime in the first place an incredible cat and mouse series would highly recommend

Brady Schwartz

i hope they see this comment

Erased, 86 and ReZero are overrated. Vinland Saga, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Parasyte are great though. I would also add Monster to the list of great anime.

Rhiannon

You should watch Monster, Vinland Saga and Mushishi then. Not every anime is downhill from AOT or Death Note.

Rhiannon

Yes please do parasyte!!!

Scott Bringel

I think you guys would really enjoy Parasyte, it's a bit gruesome but a lot of great writing and battles of wits

Gandheezy

Hard disagree on all of that. It may not be Death Note but Code Geass is great

Gandheezy

It's not a deleted cut. In 2007 they did a rewrite of Part 1 as a 2 hour movie, that's supposed to be from the perspective of Ryuk retelling the story to another Shinigami sometime in the future. This is from that movie version.

Kendal Cowart

I recommend watching Vinland Saga as it's action packed and have very strong themes within it. I think they'll like it a lot. Hopefully the vote wins 😭😭

Yarod Razo

They'll definitely reflect on life 🤣

Facts

Yarod Razo

Criminal to say it's downhill from here when Vinland Saga exists.

ChainChompBraden

Shows that I feel resonate with yall: Vinland Saga, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Parasyte, Erased, 86, ReZero! Hopefully at least one of these, one day

Leif

Don’t get me wrong death note and AoT are great but if you think it’s all downhill from here you need to watch more anime 😅

Bri

that must be a joke, there are many more good ones and code geass is one of them, just because you dont like certain things does not make it a fact.

Chrisiyyi

I wouldn't watch Code Geass. I've seen a bunch of people recommend it. It's a worse version of Death Note in almost every way. Sloppy writing and very tropey characters. I think it will run your guys' patience out with the poor writing and plot development (plot holes). Unfortunately, AoT and Death Note are the two top of the list from the "anime" pile. It's all downhill from here. Not to say there aren't good shows. Just none that will be as riveting.

Grant

I think the Anime called “Vinland Saga,” Would be great for you guys. I think that Anime will fit your taste and be what you guys will enjoy.

Kiki Varas

May as well join the pack. My first anime was Fruits Basket. They redid it in i think 2020, first to happen. Its deep, dark, beautful, emotional, comical, fantasy... just the best first time or classic/esteemed anime that needs to be seen by any anime enthusiasts. Edit: Death Note and Fruits Basket are completely different but needs to be seen by anyone watching anime. They are both what got most into it for the first time.

Kalie Murray

I voted for “Orb: On the Movements of the Earth” as the next anime to watch. It is the most philosophical anime currently being broadcast. I also recommend Vinland Saga as an anime that takes its inspiration from history.

swingo

I agree with these two

Clorox bleach G

For anime still recommending Vinland Saga, 86 Eighty-Six, Code Geass, and Erased.

romaiiiii

Also, aiber's death was more tame here than in the manga. Light gave aiber CANCER in the manga, a slow awful death

peachy af

ouuu i think you guys would thoroughly enjoy parasyte or tokyo ghoul. lots of gore though, but im sure thats fine since you started with attack on titan lol

peachy af

Here’s other recommendations that you’ll most likely enjoy since you guys enjoy cat and mouse games. Erased (very short and absolutely AMAZING), Berserk, Code Geass, full metal alchemist brotherhood, Monster and a non anime which is the Hannibal tv series. Recommendations outside of the cat and mouse trope would be Mob Psycho 100, One Punch Man, and Golden Kamuy

It's cool seeing you guys get into this type of media. Just like Death Note being this amazing thriller, cat-and-mouse game, you'll find similar gems in other genres of anime. In fact, I'll give you a few recommendations here with story premises on a few, but of course, decide what you want to watch yourself! Whether it's more stuff like this (Code Geass, Psycho Pass, etc.), or branching out into other things that interest you, I'm here for it! To start, I have to recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, or FMAB for short. It's about two brothers who tried to bring their mother back through forbidden alchemy, and not only did it fail, it backfired, causing the older brother to lose his leg, and the younger brother his entire body. However, the older brother sacrifices an arm to bind his younger brother's soul into a suit of armor, and now they roam the world in search of a way to get their bodies back. It's pretty universally recognized as one of the best anime of all time, if not the best. It's deep, mysterious, emotional, and thought-provoking, has an insanely unique plot and power system, one of the best English voice casts ever, and a beautiful soundtrack. It receives the highest praise from me, and I'd rate it above Death Note. If you're looking for something shorter, I'd recommend One Punch Man, which is a hilarious commentary on modern superheroes with a great soundtrack, message, overall story, and animation. By the same creator, there's Mob Psycho 100, which is just as funny, but also extremely character-driven. It's about an impressionable student with psychic powers trying to find himself and improve his normal life, all the while working for a conman psychic who runs a fake spirit consulting business. If you want something fantastical like Lord of the Rings, there's a modern anime called Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. If you want something with a lot of action and fighting, there's Jujutsu Kaisen, which quite literally translates into English as "Sorcery Fight" lol. If you want action and emotion, there's Vinland Saga, but if you mostly want an emotional train wreck, there's Cyberpunk Edgerunners. My personal favorite, though, is Re:Zero, which I would put up there with the likes of Death Note and FMAB. It's about this guy who gets thrown from Earth into another world with fantasy elements (magic, spirits, and so on), with the ability to return by death, meaning, that when he dies, he returns to a specific checkpoint in time. It's sort of like Groundhog Day. It can be funny, it can be brutal, and the characters are fun and intriguing, but most of all, they're real. They make mistakes, and they have flaws, and through his power, the main character is able to see so many different sides of these characters and eventually bring out the best in them, as well as himself, throughout the story. It's such an interesting narrative device and it's a one-of-a-kind experience for a show that I couldn't recommend more than enough. Anyway, sorry for the essay here haha, but I hope you find some use in at least some of this, cheers!

Seth

Ohhh, I hadn’t seen this scene. It would be instead of the one on the terrace where he’s talking to Ryuk because they have the same conversation

Magda Ch

As for other anime recommendations, I wish they didn’t fumble the first two seasons of Black Butler otherwise I’d recommend that one! (Season 2 isn’t manga canon at all) Ciel is also ridiculously intelligent for his age, I would have loved to see these guys react to it

Seven Seas

I like that they did a recap for the first half of the episode, because really knowing the facts leading up to this point is important for the second half The second half gets a little confusing, so knowing the facts and history of the Kira investigation will help ground you in the coming episodes!

Seven Seas

One show I think you guys would really like is one called Link Click. It’s not technically an anime because it’s made it China not Japan, but it’s still represented like an anime. It’s like a thriller about time travel, It also has lots you can theorize on so discussion would be a lot of fun. It has some amazing twists, very well made and underrated. Please consider putting it on a poll🙏

Elle

nahhh, why u all reminded me of the deleted cut !!!!!! I HAD finally forgotten about this!!!

Rena Unnie

31:11 A similar anime to Death Note is Code Geass, with a genius main character that isn't morally the best let's say. Another great one similar to Death Note, with a cat and mouse chase and detectives being an important part of the story is Monster, this time with a morally good main character but with a morally not-so-good nemesis...

Rhiannon

26:49 After Rem sacrificed herself and wrote Watari's and L's names in her notebook, Rem's lifespan went to Misa.

Rhiannon

there is a deleted cut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l30mZV31Vg0&ab_channel=AnimeWasabi
