I think what i didnt like is that the main characters story felt completely un earned. I never once found myself rooting for him. Atleast it was a bloody watch. But terrible writing. Absolutely terrible. He was so argoant it hurt, and the general was barely at fault for his wifes death. But thats just me.....Might have also been an acting thing. Because the whole i dont need the mercy of rome line just didnt hit.

Whoever was in charge of the stunts/action scenes... I know a WWE/TNA fan when I see one 😏

I totally agree with your reviews! It looks to me like the producers wanted to do a remake or reboot but viewers are done with all these remakes so instead they just said "we're going to call it a sequel" but the story is copy pasting all the beats of the 1st movie lol. It does feel like a cash grab and nothing else to be honest. It's very uninspired, had silly moments... that being said, it wasn't boring, so I guess I'd give this a 2.5 🤷‍♀️

Aria Isara

Personally I am in the minority that views this movie as a companion to the first movie, not a competitor. Everyone seems to have put the first movie on a pedestal that's far above what anyone can live up to, apparently not even Riddely-Scott himself. I'm glad they had their own story while furthering the first, otherwise I think it would have been just riding on the coatails of the first. I guess I just don't need the minutiae that everyone else seems to be clamoring for. More than anything I felt this movie suffers from editing choices and not having said editors look at a scene and just saying 'No'.

LaLa

Lucius did remember though? I'm not sure why you think he didn't.

I just couldn't stay focused watching this, many times I found myself not even looking at the TV. I wanted to like this movie but couldn't connect with our main character, and was just bored for the majority of this movie. Some moments were cool but overall this was such a letdown. I gave it a 2.5/5

It sucks because there are a lot of great actors and actresses in this movie, but it's disappointing. The first one was already a masterpiece; they didn't need to make a sequel to it. I had hoped it would be better, but it's not even close. The plot was weak; it's so obvious they keep connecting to the first Gladiator in every damn scene. It's just ridiculous.

Arudorin

i saw it in theaters and it lost my attention so many times. to put it nicely ithought it was buns

Conor Moriarty

I'm kinda relieved to see the same exact reaction from you guys on this movie. To say I disliked Gladiator 2 would be an understatement. I can go as far as to say that both me and my girlfriend hated it. She isn't even a die hard fan but I LOVE Gladiator, after watching this movie even she missed the original and wanted to see it again. I saw so many people who loved this movie that I started questioning if I missed something but I didn't. I don't agree to people who say this movie wasn't meant to be a sequel or connected to original that much as every couple minutes they would mention stuff from old movie, show scenes and so on... It got really annoying and didn't click for me at all. I'll still say... This movie didn't need to happen but movies are made for money mostly nowadays than for it to be good, which is sad.

I'm listening to Oak speak about Top Gun and I can see how he thought this one could be good, specially with such a good cast and director. Tell us how you feel guys!! lol for some reason I was like Oak "oh he is boiling" hahahaha but seriously, thanks for giving us your thoughts we appreciate them and maybe not everyone (and that's okay) but a big portion of us think exactly the same as you. Also, it is good to see you all have the black boards for the scores<3

Alexiani Gollarza

In my first time watch I was so worried about Pedro that I ignored the dialogue, but now watching it again I was like "???????" not very good writing at all :/

Alexiani Gollarza

Im always one to say watch it for yourself before judging but ive seen so many horrible reviews I dont even want to watch it lol

Alyssa Dyson

Didn't plan on watching this one as there's no way it'll be as good as the original but I'll give it a chance to watch it with you guys!

Natacha Pedersen

I agree with mostly everything except for the disliking of Denzel’s character. For me, he was the saving grace because I was so bored and kept zoning out lol. He at least stirred the pot. Everything else felt like a copy & paste. I also wish they would have fleshed out Lucious’s character more. We know very little about him so it made it hard for me to care.

Nikki Jade

I don't like the fact that throughout the whole movie, it felt like they were trying to say "it's not the first one so don't compare them" surely if you're going into something that is a sequel to one of the greatest movies of all time you want to at least try and make it somewhere as close to the first one. Have you guys seen Alien: Romulus? Unlike gladiator 2, it's actually a sequel worth seeing.

Holly Astle

I thought it was excellent. Watched it twice in theatres. But art is subjective and you’re entitled to your opinion

Mehdi R.

Thank you guys for your complete and utter honesty with this disaster of a movie. You touched on pretty much everything I was thinking while watching this in theaters. The original Gladiator was one of the first movies I watched as a kid that I probably wasn’t supposed to (but did anyway lol) at a family friend’s house and I just remember being so transfixed and sharing that moment with everyone else, so it really had an impact on me and my eventual love for films. I wanted to like this movie so bad, but it’s just a hard no for me. The relentless piggybacking off the first movie was painful, and it didn’t bring anything fresh whatsoever regarding the plot, plot structure, investment into the main characters, etc. despite having an incredible cast and huge budget. Just an important reminder that films don’t always have to be what you would classify as ‘Hollywood blockbusters’ to be good. I feel like this past year and some of the movies that came out (plus the ones that have yet to be released in the next few months) especially from more independent or smaller studios (e.g. The Substance, Blink Twice, Anora, The Brutalist, The Last Showgirl, etc.) has really shown that you can indeed have interesting stories come to life for the big screen without it having a huge budget or remaking something that doesn’t need one. One last thing, shoutout for mentioning the people who worked on the movie! It was an incredible feat (they really built the Colosseum), and I’m sure so many other details, so they absolutely deserve the praise in place of the movie itself.

I thought this was pretty good ngl, prob like a 3.3 for me

Steven Warner

This movie was a mess 😂😂

Jerry Pocketz

What’s WILD is one of the main writers of Top Gun Maverick wrote this!!! WHAT?! It feels like Chat GPT wrote this. Disliked it a ton, even with Pedro. Dare I say that Pompeii was even better 😆 LOVED your reaction though!! 🙌🎊🤩

Angelina

Did I find the movie entertaining? Yes. Did I think it was a great movie? Not really - I thought it was not bad. I found some parts of the script to be questionable (ahem sharks lol) and it regurgitated too much from the original masterpiece. I'd give it 3/5 answers. Watching this for the first time with the BM boys? 5/5 answers! 🤘😁 Sharks hahahahaha 🤣

Paul Yu (BlehBlarghBlah)

I completely agree with Mason Quinn, the characters did not act like Romans, it was way too funny when it did not meant to be i think. I did not care for Lucius at all. I felt like he was never in any danger and at the end the Praetorian army just lets him go by them like its nothing. Just no danger to the main character, massive plot holes that i am surprised that the Collosseum did not leak. :D

Nomad

This wasn't horrible. Worth it just to see Oak working out how sharks would work in the colosseum

Harlee

At this point, I am just happy the didn’t put that RnB ambience music in Roman Empire era (if you saw the trailer, you know what I mean)

Fajar Kurniawan

Oh man it's so fun to see DD try to read and miss the words and mispronounce others xD "to whatever the last two words were" I'm laughing and enjoying this quite a lot already

Alexiani Gollarza

Like "you better give me something good or else.."lol

Alexiani Gollarza

To be honest, the film wasn’t great, but I feel bad panning the actors because sometimes the material they’re given isn’t great, and they do what they can…but I agree, Denzel is one of those actors I can’t really see in a role. Weirdly for me, Pedro is the opposite-he’s just able to seep into his roles even if he looks similar in each one (I’m sure build, hair/makeup and costumes help in that regard)…

Kaley

After watching the reaction I would score the movie around what these guys gave it around 2-3 range like I said thought was just ok when I saw it 1st time around and watching a 2nd time my thoughts on the movie hasn’t changed

Anthony Velasquez

Tell me about it....visually I'm like this looks good but historically I had to bite my cheeks and not grimace

Mr H Aziz

hahaha his finger guns while he said that! 🤣

Paul Yu (BlehBlarghBlah)

Been waiting for this one, first time watch 🫡

Steven Warner

I hope I'm entertained lol nice onw DD

Alexiani Gollarza

This was painful to watch if you're into history, had some entertaining fights but most of it made absolutely no sense and was complete fiction lol. Why didn't they put crocodiles in the colosseum like they actually did in real life, sharks would literally be impossible as they would die before arriving.. This part made my eyes roll so far back I could see backwards. Ridley Scott's films just gets worse and worse as he ages, still better than Napoleon though (high bar ik) but don't get why he doesn't follow real historical records when they're as cool if not cooler than this made up nonsense. Maybe time he retired. Gladiator 1 was really good even tho it might not have been super accurate to roman history but you could tell there was passion behind it, this on the other hand was just a total mess, pure fantasy and torture to watch. Good acting and well shot though I guess, those are only good things I can say... I think this is the last time I bother watching a Ridley Scott film, total waste of budget and great actors that could go to directors and writers who actually care about history and the quality of their film. It's such an insult to talented writers that this is what Hollywood spends money on, just mindless vomit that an AI or a 15 year old could cook up. Just mind boggling, and they wonder why studios like A24 and Neon are getting so much acclaim.

Quzga

yikes this movie

Liam

Wonder what the crew will think of the movie I seen it and thought it was just ok went into the theaters with high expectations since the 1st one is a great movie probably one of my father’s favorite movies ever and I loved the 1st one as well and 2nd one was just fine my father didn’t even like it
