Comments

It could be possible they might start the game over since so much has happened. With the rebellion messing up the game itself. And it would make sense that since gihun is still there that if they do start the game over they would make sure no one could hide behind anyone else this time.

Brittany Mack

It wont be that, since they already played RLGL. Also doesnt explain the use of the traffic light

About Dae Ho, the Marine guy, initially I immediately thought PTSD (I’m a physician, not a psychiatrist but I’ve studied the subject before in med school). But then since watching a lot of reactions to the show, i’ve also read different comments so i’m down to three theories. 1) He really served in the Marines and got PTSD because (i’ve read this somewhere) during the time of his service, there was an irl shooting incident in Korea during the time that he served. Knetz put two and two together because of his class number and the date of the shooting incident. 2) He really didn’t serve in the Marines OR he did, but maybe went AWOL then had a fake tattoo just so he can show his father (who forced him to serve, he mentioned it during the 6-legged race game) that he did. 3) It could be a mix of both theories because the way he flinched when 120 reached for the ammos, it was definitely a PTSD from something. Maybe his father used to hurt him because he wasn’t man enough (idk, just based off of the gonggi game again) hence forced him to serve in the marines? I really don’t know. I can’t wait to know more of his story in season 3. I’ve really liked the actor for Dae Ho (player 388) for such a long time now and he’s one of the reasons why I was anticipating this season. I’m sad a lot of people got mad at him for abandoning the others because I was just sad for him tbh. And i’m glad his “cowardice” forced Hyun Ju (player 120) to get back to the quarters, hopefully saving her life.

I think the boy doll might be behind them where you can't hide behind anyone else

As a person who dated a former marine with diagnosed PTSD, I feel like he definitely seems to have PTSD. I think people often think that ptsd is jumping at every sound and unable to speak about what happened when they were in the marines. my ex use to talk about it all the time. But waking him up out of his sleep was the most dangerous thing and seeing period blood was a trigger for him. And Dae-Ho being frozen in the bed after being in a shoot out seem like ptsd. Dae-ho seems to shut down that's the shut down of a person that seen unspeakable things. I think we often think that marines are so trained that they are unstoppable and unbothered but if you suffer from PTSD, that fear can subdue any training.

Brittany Mack

sweet home is another really good korean series :)

Luke Morrison

you said finger lmao

Luke Morrison

oh thank you, I am still watching!

Amanda

If it helps, he does explain in his review 🤙🤙

37:07 Mason Queen says "finally we see a show where they do it" and I don't get what is he talking about (for real, I don't know, I am sorry if it is too obvious, please don't be rude with me, I may cry if you are :D) Can someone explain please?

Amanda

I heard there is supposed to be a Squid Games that takes place in the US. It’s supposed to tie into this one and it was the directors choice

Katie

thats what i got out of it too, it comes across as PTSD but hoping s3 will address if it was or wasn't PTSD.

Angel Chatfield

I don't find it strange that the square guy they took hostage recognised the frontman because he is a manager. The managers are the ones the games spend time grooming to become these robotic killers as we saw from the recruiter in episode 1. The recruiter on episode 1 explained his journey from being an O as a child to working his way up, to manipulate them so much and make them have this twisted view of the world takes trust. And what better way to establish trust in a place where anonymity is gold than for the frontman to show them his face? Show them how special they are, to have this privilege of being able to identify him when the triangles and O's can't

Naffie Ngum

@Wren. You're not the only one. I saw it as a fresh angle on freezing in combat. For me, if it was PTSD, I would expect to see signs of PAST trauma in the storytelling (similar to Gi-hun's in S1), or in Dae-ho's reaction to the murderous carnage earlier in the games. And, I felt the writer took time to place his backstory with care, it wouldn't make sense that it wasn't involved in a major character revelation. I think it speaks to Korean cultural themes as well. BUT, if he didn't have PTSD in this instance... he sure as F*** has it now.

Harlee

I doubt its the Pregnant woman based on her connection to Myung-gi. If anyone's a vip its probably 100. He gives off the vibes plus its 001 backwards.

Brittany Lewandowski

i would be so upset if this is the case. it looks exactly like ptsd

wren

My absolute favorite S1 quote from The Frontman is about how he doesn't care if they eat the bodies or sell their organs, as long as the games are fair.

LilithCain

I 100% think his tattoo is fake for his dad (and everyone else apparently)

Harlee

I don't agree with Frontman making Gi-Hun a new Frontman, but he could want him as a #2. But, I think Frontman wants Gi Hun to ultimately condone the games, because Frontman has his own doubts. I think Frontman resents Gi-Hun, Gi Hun got out, got the money, and could have lived a life as a good parent to his daughter, a chance Frontman didn't get. Instead Gi Hun chose to ignore his daughter for a significant portion of her childhood. When he called Gi Hun and told him to get on the plane, it was because he wanted Gi Hun to have that life, not because he was scared of him hunting the games down. All of this was to get Gi Hun to give up on defending these people who choose to be shitbags(his view, not objective truth), and go be a dad. Sidenote, I think Gi-Hun had a no-kill order on him just as there would be one on the Frontman, and if he was eliminated, he would be brought to face the frontman regardless.

justin

We don't know why he is in the games, so it could be that he did dodge service and has been living off the grid, leading to him living a life worthy of the Squid Game. Maybe he got the Tattoo early in his 20's and faked it to his dad. But then when he hit the max age he could go without serving, he started the life that led him to the games.

justin

I think he wants Gi Hun as his #2. Frontman is presumably the only employee that was a player, while all his underlings are straight recruits. They all follow the "The players are trash" mindset, but he is the only one that was said "trash" before joining. I think he is lonely, and a former player co-worker would be someone he could bond with. I also think he has a little doubt about his choices, and if Gi Hun flips, that doubt would go away, he is justified. Other winners probably party and do BS, which justifies Frontman's world view. Gi Hun challenges that view, and Frontman wants to snuff it out.

justin

I'm not saying they'd have accomplished much more but surrender is death so literally anything is a better plan. Trying to get back to the room, even if low odds is better than no odds.

Adam Edmison

They didn't seem surprised, but they had to come to terms that they lost this particular battle. Attacking the guards head on when they are out of ammo would've been dumber that surrendering. That was literally their only option

Kelly Melvin

Ofc these are all theories still. We won’t know for sure until S3! 😁

Ashley K

I wonder if he will or if he'll be a recruiter. We still don't know how the workers are chosen, only how they go from pink soldiers to recruiters. We still have the final season but unless he majorly shifts, I don't think Gihun would be front man material. Unless, the front man has full control of game rules and Gihun ends up making changes to who is allowed to enter. Everyone else is ruthless, Gihun isn't, yet. But him now accepting collateral damage definitely puts him joining the games on the table. I do hope the pregnant woman is spared (and the mom). I just don't know if frontman really cares about her or if he has shut his past down and he was just playing his part in the game. I don't know if it was confirmed or rumored (my friend told me) but there's a chance a VIP is among the players. I wonder if it's the pregnant one. I feel like if a VIP is true, it's going to be someone young this go around.

Megan

There's a theory that Gihun will become the next front man. I would've been against it but the moment he said the deaths were acceptable to end the games, I could see it. Frontman even saw that Gihun had finally been corrupted. That's probably also why Frontman left the games because he succeeded in turning Gihun, even if it's just slightly. All the crew for SG saw the contestants as less than and while Gihun doesn't call them trash, he's now recognizing death is acceptable for an end goal. A complete 180 from s1 him. Now will he be the frontman or are we getting a set up for how people enter the SG force and he becomes a pink soldier or a recruiter. Since we still don't know how they are picked, only that you start as a pink soldier and work your way up.

Megan

Thank you that's actually helpful. I was suspicious of him because of the mandatory military but him not knowing how to use a gun. I assumed they had basic training with different weapons during their basics even if they never touched a weapon after the moved on to their positions. I couldn't tell if it was just PTSD or a lie with subtle holes.

Megan

I didn't catch 388 as PTSD but as a mismatch between combat and his temperament. In his backstory, Dae-ho is the only son born in generations and played with his four older sisters enough to F-ING CRUSH that game. He didn't like talking about his father, and his father sent him to the marines to harden him up, which suggests he was a gentle boy. I read him as stolen valour-ish. Military service is mandatory in Korea so it is likely he served, and unlikely he defected as the penalty is too high. But, I don't think he was in the marines but he overplays it to fit in and as a mask of bravery. BUT, let's remember that he was brave. He had every intention of returning with ammo... but got overwhelmed by gunfire... fair.

Harlee

I assumed that a lot of the pink soldiers would recognize the front man’s face because he was a past player who won. If they were soldiers during his game then they would know his face. Even if they weren’t, I assume it would be easy to figure it out from their records on past winners. 🤷🏻‍♀️

BlueJean452

Excellent reactions guys! I think this season is superb with a great plot, character depth, new motives, and new games. I'm happy that you also thought that way of the Front Man's motives because I thought the same thing throughout this season. It was all a big "I told you so". I want to give you guys some insight from Koreans regarding Dae-ho. Mostly only Koreans could catch on to this especially by men (because all Korean men are required to serve in the military)- Daeho's class number is from 2011 which was when there was a shooting massacre in the K-Marines IRL so the Koreans are theorizing that he could have PTSD from that incident. It was very subtle, but since the beginning he showed that he definitely has some backstory when he was being touched or when Jung-bae brought up his dad. Also, he nor any one of those players that rebelled (except #120), despite all having military training, would know how to handle an MP5 because this is only used by special forces, not typical military soldiers. Anyway, I'm glad you all liked this season and I agree with you all that S1's bar was set so high but they still came in clutch with S2. I think this season wouldn't have been so underrated if Netflix didn't split it between S2 and S3 because yes, we barely saw Det. Hwang being put to use like everyone was hoping, but I think it was great build up for S3. Can't wait to watch S3 with you in June!

Fine feathered friends and foes 🫡

Steven Warner

Fight to the death is what they decided to do when they made that decision to attack. You're not surviving anything less in that place, yet they still seemed surprised.

Adam Edmison

What did you want them to do? Keep fighting with the ammo they didn't have? They fought as hard as they could, but their plan was always going to fail. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The players were outnumbered, they ran out of ammo, the guy that was supposed to get the ammo gave up on them, and they had someone they trusted working against them. What else were they to do?

Kelly Melvin

I think the Front Man is preparing Gi-Hun to become the new Front Man. Front Man was a cop and I have a feeling he may have done what Gi-hun is doing, tried to take down the games and ended up the Front Man. I also think in the end he's going to spare the Pregnant woman, given what happened with his pregnant wife. PLus the look on his face when she told them she was pregnant. Another theory I have(heard it elsewhere) is the the Front Man STARTED the organ business when he first became the Front Man because 1. his wife needed a liver transplant and 2. He gave a kidney to his brother.

Brittany Lewandowski

I wasn't gonna binge this but I just couldn't help watching every single episode immediately after and I just ended up binging the whole thing. I agree with Oak I give this a 5. I was also like WTF??? it ended like that?? I was also expecting 10 episodes just coz that's what I'm used to with Netflix (I guess Cobra Kai). The thing about waiting now it seems like if you follow anything on the show if you wait it's almost guaranteed the show's gonna be spoiled. With Cobra Kai even the actors after a few days just posted all kinds of BTS stuff that gives away the ending. I've found myself binging immediately half because I just can't wait to see it and half coz I don't want it ruined for me.

Alex

So with player 120, regarding the actor playing that role (since y'all brought it up in the post-episode discussion): it's played by a male actor (not a trans actor), because while they really, really wanted to have an actual trans woman playing the role, it's still so stigmatized and discriminated against in Korea that they literally could not find any actual trans performers for that role. The actor playing the role absolutely crushed it, though. The character instantly became one of my favorites going back to Red Light/Green Light, as the only person who went to help Gi-hun try to save the guy who'd been shot in the leg. Also, unrelated, I wonder if they're setting up one or both of Min-su and Dae-ho to have some sort of redemption in the final batch of episodes when season three comes out, since they both had moments of cowardice in this episode.

Jeff K

I think the captain was "hired" by the front man to rescue & look after his brother as well as thwart his plans of finding "the island". Imagine if this was not even the real squid game but just another version held just so the front man (In-ho) can prove a twisted point to Gi-hun? And the real squid game was held/televised elsewhere at the same time. Also imagine if the games are not even held in S. Korea but in another country and the extraction team was a complete waste! Looking forward to season 3.

Thanos 😔💜

This reaction was tense which fits the episode because man, I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. I guessed 2 seconds before front man turned the gun what he was going to do, my reaction was pretty much like DD's. Man this episode is something else. I'll watch the review tomorrow though it's late now. Thanks for this double drop 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Alexiani Gollarza

i feel that 388 is actually a marine, but has some sort of extreme PTSD

Sydney

Ok the surrender part at the end had to be the dumbest writing in this show. People get killed instantly for failing a game, but you think they'll let you live after a violent insurrection... nobody is that dumb

Adam Edmison

Lol, couldn't wait until another day🤣 let's go!!

Alexiani Gollarza

Oh you sweet, sweet, double-droppin' sons of guns! Oh, wait: Double Drop... DD... Diamond Dave. NOW it makes sense.
