Gonna be honest, with stuff like RRR, Vikram and Jawan you guys have seen the best of the best, in the action genre and masala genre on top of my head I don't see what would top that 🤔 I think either you'll get some very stylized action but the story won't be there, or like in Pushpa you get a story but the action won't be the main focus. I'd recommend JAILER, it's a very good action thriller, it has some slick action but mostly a gripping plot and a lot of dark comedy. Also MAAVEERAN, a superhero movie with very well choreographed action. Both are Tamil hits from 2023. There is also KILL (Hindi, 2024). The John Wick producers bought the rights and an American remake is planned. Don't expect a story for this one, it's ALL about delivering intense action, that's where its originality lies (can't say more, don't want to spoil). But you should definitely react to Indian movies in other genres, where many movies are sure to blow your mind 🙂 So yes Oak is correct that Pushpa is not that wild action, and a lot of focus is on the main character becoming more powerful and navigating this smuggling/crime world. The writer/director Sukumar is known to have movies that are very story oriented. You can check out his previous blockbuster RANGASTHALAM, with one of the RRR leads. But don't expect lots of crazy action, there is even much less than in Pushpa. The focus is more on suspense. But the movie is very much worth a watch. In Pushpa, about the song where he is partying with that other girl: she is actually a very famous actress. It's common for actresses and sometimes actors to do a cameo for one song in a blockbuster. That actress, Samantha, is the lead in the director's previous movie Rangasthalam. She is also the antagonist in season 2 of THE FAMILY MAN (Hindi, Amazon Prime) which is one of the best Indian series and you guys should add it to the list 😉 The new antagonist towards the end of Pushpa is played by Fahadh Faasil, you didn't recognize him with the shaved head but you saw him as the lead agent Amar in Vikram. He's one of the best actors in India (dare I say the world) right now. Something I only now noticed when I rewatched the movie is how well shot Pushpa is and specifically how the scenes are longer than the norm. Instead of just cutting, the director chooses to move the camera around. I'm sure you'll watch Pushpa 2 as soon as it drops on OTT so probably late January or February, so I'll wait for your reaction to watch it! Here are some recommendations for movies in other genres 😊 AAVESHAM gangster comedy with Fahadh Faasil, one of the most popular and best films of this year ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI popular romcom with the actress who played Sita in RRR, by one of the most well known Bollywood directors AMAR SINGH CHAMKILA biopic of the most famous Punjabi singer in the 80s, it's really a stunning story and movie by another big Bollywood filmmaker + music by AR Rahman (who got the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire and is the most famous and respected composer in India) SAPTA SAGARADAACHE ELLO drama in 2 parts (Side A and Side B), among the best Indian movies these past few years MAHARAJA thriller with Vijay Sethupathi (he was the villain in Vikram and Jawan, here he is the protagonist), among the most recommended 2024 movies And the following, they are pretty much contemporary classics: JIGARTHANDA (2014) gangster/dark comedy DRISHYAM slow burn thriller (the original is the 2013 Malayalam one, if you can't find it the 2015 Hindi remake is on Netflix) ANDHADHUN (2018) thriller/dark comedy BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN (2015) comedy drama EEGA (2012) fantasy/adventure movie by the director of RRR (both movies written by his dad) I know many of these have also been requested by other subcribers 😊
