My brother tried showing me this movie over the weekend saying it was really good. It made me sick to my stomach and I had to stop watching. 🀒

Ginger

i think you guys should watch hardcord henry

SwagIsHere

Battlefield L.A. is great film too

Eric Wallace

The fuck are you talking about?

Eric Wallace

Ummm.... He did give a rating on this film πŸ˜‚πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ not sure I'm following what you mean here?

Badd Medicine

Has Dave ever given a rating on ANYTHING?!

Tanner Blue

Diamond Dave has the difficult task of being last to speak after the other three have reiterated most of the content and then STILL has something incredibly insightful to add each time so I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Scott Bringel

Sounds like a personal problem here.

Badd Medicine

wtf

Elijah Ramirez

classic diamond dave yapping throughout the whole movie and then bringing up the most pointless shit at the end

tom

It's been a few months I think

I thought something to do with Blomkamp directing Halo live action shorts was also part of it all? Many wanted him to direct a Halo movie or TV show.

Ram.

I love the story behind how this film was made, and how this movie skyrocketed careers after it's success. Neill Blomkamp is a South African filmmaker and he made a short film called "Alive in Joburg," which Peter Jackson saw and believed in Blomkamp's talent so much he invested $30 million for him to direct a film of his choosing. And he decided to expand on this short film, and I'm still amazed how much he was able to do with such a tight budget. Sharlto Copley is a friend of Blomkamp's and so he cast him as the lead in this movie after he appears in a few of the director's shorts, and that just skyrocketed his acting career with this being his first feature film. A fun trivia fact is that Sharlto improvised all his dialogue in the movie! Seems like the sequel has been written by the same team, but they haven't actively started production on it. I feel like I don't NEED a sequel, and if they do move forward with it I'm glad they seem to be taking their time.

Alex Boatman

Chappie is sooo good. I hope they do that one and Elysium, such a good not trilogy. haha. Heard they are even working on a sequel to D9

The Astral Nut

I remember watching this back in theaters for a friends birthday back in high school, it was a bit goofy because of its styling but still a good movie, too bad it never got a sequel. (one that isnt shelved anyway)

Bedinor

Neill Blomkamp also did Elysium and was supposed to do a gritty Halo movie before funding was cut I believe, but there's a 5 ish minute teaser he did on Youtube. His director style is so gritty and realistic I love it. He also made Chappie. Very underrated

I'm so glad you guys watched this! I had to watch it for a Dystopian college course and although it was brutal it is so fascinating and well-done. The social commentary is heavy in this one as you mentioned and it was actually inspired by apartheid in South Africa and Cape Town's District 6 during the 1960s-70s, hence the location setting of the movie. Diamond Dave, I definitely see your point on wanting a snippet of the plan at the end of the movie but I can also see why they did that. The way that section was done focused on the phone call and Koobus immediately going out to raid the house and find him, and not including Wikus and Chris' plan during these sequences made the impact and shock stronger and included the audience in the misdirect. It is a big moment for the audience when suddenly the building explodes but shows the brilliance of their secret plan to attack while the strongest soldiers are away in district 9. Just adding another interesting perspective! Loved the reaction!

To second what a couple others have mentioned, you guys should check out Sunshine by Danny Boyle and Elysium by Neil Blomkamp. I think you all would love both of them!!

Laurie Lioux

More space movies!

Megatto

I'd recommend Sunshine (2007) if you are looking for additional science fiction movies. Sunshine is a Danny Boyle film (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Steve Jobs) starring an international ensemble cast: Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Troy Garity, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, Chipo Chung, and Mark Strong.

My thought exactly, three years later they will have their vengeance 😁 yeah it has open ending, but I am glad that his wife still has trust in him.

Fajar Kurniawan

Glad you guys enjoyed this one. Another great sci-fi film from 2009 is Moon starring Sam Rockwell. It's the debut feature film from Duncan Jones, who happens to be David Bowie's son.

Brian Lockwood

You guys should watch Elysium as well. Another awesome sci-fi from Neil Blomkamp with Matt Daemon. Actor that played Wikus is in that one too.

I think it's a little unfair to get angry at Wickus for many of the decisions he made. The dude is an office worker, he isn't a soldier. And he's just gone through some of the 3 worst days that anyone has ever gone through. These days would be tough for a SOLDIER to go through, and they've gone through training and conditioning to prepare them for these rigors. Wickus on the other hand? He's just an office worker. He had hope dangled in front of his face for being able to reverse this absolutely terrifying transformation, and then that hope was ripped away from him. He's also been cut off from any sort of support network due to the lies that were said about him. We gotta cut him some slack for deciding to try and get to the ship to fix himself and for trying to escape with his life at the expense of someone else. I'm not saying those were the right decisions, just that they're understandable ones. In other news, it's actually funny that you guys had such a visceral reaction to the things you saw in the movie. I considered warning you ahead of time to not eat anything before you watch District 9 cause it's such a gross movie in many ways, but I figured ya'll would be fine after having seen movies like Midsommar and Hereditary hahah. I guess it might have been worth it giving you a warning after all. Glad ya'll enjoyed it so much, and like others have said, you definitely wanna watch Elysium and Chappie. They're also Neill Blomkamp staples and also star Sharlto Copely so I know ya'll are gonna love them. Dude is a phenomenal actor.

Marco Gutierrez

One thing I don't think I heard you guys mention was just how cool and inventive the alien weapons were. They totally felt like real functioning machines with incredibly inventive ways in which they delivered damage. It really raises the entertainment value of the movie so much.

shaneth138

I love how this movie shows how the media spreads bullshit πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ’―

MateoP

This film was actually supposed to be a Halo movie! I’m so sad it didn’t end up working out, it would have been brilliant, but the movie is insanely good either way ☺️

Yen Shively

YESSSSSS! Children of Men is an absolute MUST see. I think the guys would love it, the one-shots are INSANE

Yen Shively

its not a coincidence they chose South Africa as the setting.

Presence Unknown

One of the first times ive seen Oak and Quinn give a 5 where Andrew doesnt, a sight to see folks

Steven Warner

Not sure i agree with DD, i think they purposely left out the reason of stopping at Earth to leave the audience guessing if it was the purpose of the fuel β€œfluid”

Steven Warner

I know its too late for this October lineup but if yall want some more great Peter Jackston films then I HIGHLY recommend "The Frighteners" especially as an October spooky lineup. It's not a horror flick at all but it is ghostly. Mark it on your calendar for next year!

TexasSnyper

Great film, watched it 1 year ago for the first time, 4.8/5 for me

Steven Warner

Has answer always had that drink sleeve or is that new? πŸ€”

Steven Warner

And while it can be frustrating, I like that it's not an instant switch and he still struggles with with throughout the film and still makes really selfish decisions, but struggles with it, and it pushes him further.

FullMetal B

I totally forgot to thank you gents at BM for reacting to this movie! Thank you!!! You guys rock! 🀘

Paul Yu

This is definitely 8-9/10 sci-fi movie πŸ’―πŸ“ˆ you guys should do a IMBD top movies you haven’t seen! Some really good movies up there !

MateoP

Scott Bringel

OMG I forgot about Chappie! Yes!

Paul Yu

And Chappie!!

Lee-anne

Another amazing science fiction movie from around this same time is Children of Men! I'd put it right up there with District 9 and Edge of Tomorrow. So glad y'all loved this movie!

Jessie

Agreed! His transformation throughout the movie was awesome

Paul Yu

Absolutely loved your reactions to this film. Loved Oak's comment on how there are lots of ethical discussions that could be had. Movie is one of my all time favs from the acting, effects, writing, direction, the themes of apartheid... everything. Hope you'll react to Elysium next, also by the same director and also starring Sharlto Copley.

Paul Yu

war of the worlds next!

Ryan Bellefleur

Wicus going from a sleazy, spineless government worker who dehumanizes (so to speak lol) aliens to someone who actively and selflessly fights to save one is one of the all-time greatest character arcs.

Jessie

Usually the last day of the month

Badd Medicine

Been waiting all day for this - I cannot WAIT to see their reactions!

Lee-anne

Ok, now I need the guys to react to more stuff that’ll make Answer grab MasonπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Great reaction guys!

Anza

Cason
