Culture context: So the shoe thief bit is a classic trope that sometimes slippers or shoes go missing at the mosque lol. Sometimes its because the slippers look similar so people just grab and go and sometimes people just take them but its a well known classic part of life for muslims who go to the mosque that is also an age old joke. So it was a huge wink and nod to people in that culture lol
