I’m so upset. I paid to watch this and it’s not subtitled (I’m deaf) I wish there were ways to check if reactions are captioned/subtitled before paying money.

Filmed at Fort Benning, deployed from there many times. Quite normal to have all your gear prior to deploying. You can see the red and white jump towers behind them as they are waiting for the bus. Also interesting fact, the house where Mel Gibson lived and walked down the street, is an actual Officers Housing area called White Elephant Housing.

No worries. We wish your son well the best in his journey. Proud moment for you and him.

Sorry guys, I tried watching this with you tonight, but my son is shipping off to boot camp tomorrow and it is causing me a bit of anxiety! Will try to watch later.

Notice the Vietnamese commander was the same one that ambushed the French. That was the same bugle as well. My stepdad rarely talks about his experiences in Vietnam. When he does his anger of the treatment of the returning soldiers still burns white hot.

@40 - Yes that is normal. Every soldier is issued THEIR gear and sized to them when they join. They take it with them when they change base stations and when they deploy. Even vehicles stay with the same unit as one comes in and another leaves. @1:12 - yea that is one of the realities that soldiers have to be willing to accept. @1:36 - Mason Quinn yea thats why this movie is so hard. It shows the raw effects of war.

A great movie, I recommend reading the book when you get the chance. It's written by Lt. Gen Moore(Lt. Col here) and the reporter Joe Galloway. His work on the war is extensive and you can see him as a consultant in Ken Burns best documentary work on the Vietnam War(18 hrs of documentary, but still very good). I believe Galloway got a Bronze star for his actions in the battle. Also Moores wife would be one of the leading proponents for setting up survivor support networks and the casualty notification teams that we know today.
