EARLY ACCESS: Brother Bear FULL REACTION

Comments

This one was my two daughters favorite movies when it came out, hard to believe they're in their 20's now and they were toddlers. And at the time we lived in Alaska and all the names are Alaskan based names for example we lived in Kenai ( a town) and Sitka is an island/town in the Southeast etc. And they did a lot of research in Alaska for this film, so it hit close to home. I did read that the writers knew this story was really dramatic and hard hitting so they knew they needed some comic relief and they came up with the idea of two dumb moose. They eventually presented it to Dave and Rick and they thought it was a great story so they signed on and did the McKenzie brothers through the Moose. And yes it does make the movie..

Ryan Towell

Loved this reaction! Brother Bear is a sweet story... It would be great if you ever react to 'Atlantis' (2001), 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' (1996) and 'Cinderella' (1950). Three great Disney classics from Disney's three most iconic eras! Also, all very different and distinctive films in their own right. 😊

To this day this is my mom's favourite movie ☺️❤️ I adore Brother Bear 😊

Mone

YES to Treasure Planet! This film was the first movie I saw at the cinema ❤️

Mone

Absolutely!!

Alexander Alayon Jr

Both goated films!!

Alexander Alayon Jr

I wonder how many kids named their dog (or pets in general) Koda? because I did!

Mister Lou

Brother bear was not one of my favorite Disney movies growing up, and while I still don't watch it often, it is one of the movies I have come to appreciate the most. It's a beautifully executed movie, with important messages that also brings the nostalgia of old Disney movies. While most people describe brother bear as lighthearted and wholesome, personally, I think this is one of the Disney movies with the harshest lesson: that of taking accountability for your actions even though there is no guarantee that you can make amends or be forgiven. I think it is often overlooked due to the happy ending and the overall message of "walk a mile in someone else's shoes". Instead of hiding the truth or leaving, Kenai stays to tell Coda, a child, the truth, that he killed his mother and that she is never coming back. Then he later chooses to stay with Coda, who is all alone, as a bear to take care of him. Kenai's rash actions indirectly and directly lead to Denahi's and Coda's mom's deaths and the movie shows him living with the consequences (by letting the two characters stay dead and not magically bringing them back - though having them come back as spirits is a nice touch and makes the movie more child-friendly) and the very different choices he makes in the beginning and end of the movie. It might be a bit hard to identify with (most people probably haven't been responsible for someone's death) but the message rings true for all situations where you have hurt someone, taking accountability is hard, but it is the right thing to do.

Lafawnduh!

I love whole movie but my personally best moment is when they come to the other bears and then there is Croatian bear who briefly speaks in Croatian languages and nobody understands what is he saying. He says "skoro sam se smrznul, dok sam prelazil preko ogromnog ledenog prelaza, to je bilo nekaj kaj sam jedva preživjeli!! Jedvaaaaaa" "I almost froze, while crossing the huge ice crossing, it was something I barely survived!! Barely" The best thing about Croatian bear is that he is speaking in akzent from my area where I come from Croatia, and I know watching this movie back in the day with my whole family and we didn't know that there will be Croatian bear in the movie and we was all pleasend surprised.

Josip Buretić

Thank you!!

Josip Buretić

Oh enjoy!

AyaaChann

I didn't have time to watch it, but today after work I will watch it.

Josip Buretić

It was great getting to watch this one again. Ya'll should definitely watch Treasure Planet and Atlantis for a venture into Disney's sci-fi stuff. They were both pretty great movies.

Marco Gutierrez

Im satisfied with your reactions. This is my favourite film and without being biased, this film is sooooo good. Both story, animation and music is 🤌🏼👌🏼✨. And yes, as a kid this was one of the films i watch over and over again. I was nervous to hear your scores but im with the result.

AyaaChann

I watched a video today that showed researchers are using AI to learn how animals communicate. They discovered that elephants name each other. This is really scratching the surface of how complex life is, in all its forms.

Lena

It is Joaquin that’s crazy how did i not know that lol

C. J. Ramirez

MR Oak doesnt look too happy 😅

Samantha Stavropoulos

When this came out it wasn't a favorite of mine. It was good, but didn't hit me much in regards to what I look for in movies. I didn't get into the music very much, although done well. It wasn't "catchy" for me, though one of the songs I did enjoy. And the emotional aspect didn't go as hard as I had hoped. I enjoyed it but it wasn't something I ever wanted to rewatch. As I've seen it a couple more times over the years, I find I enjoy it much more. I still don't view it as a top favorite and I don't rewatch it unless it just happens to be on, but I do like it much more now. It's been years since I last seen it and so I was excited to rewatch it with you guys. And I don't know if it's because I'm going through some emotional issues at the moment or what but I cried like a baby several times while watching it. 😆 This was a really fun watchalong, great movie break after a long day at work. ❤️ Also, the one thing I think is so important about this film, that I did love since I first saw it, is how it shows the aspect between humans and animals. To see that animals have so much more to them and how we should treat them better than we do. Not to say they're out there living life like the animals in this film... 😆😆 But still. Lol

Sarah

Day 2 of suggesting "Scary movie"

Kapteinis

This was my movie like I swear I begged my mom to buy it after I saw it. I watched it during a school trip for A honor roll kids and I was obsessed like on the bus ride back to school I would not shut up about it!

Julio Salazar

Thank you for caring. Yes right it's getting better. I still have bad days but not as regularly anymore. ❤

Animalsareangels 94

I hope you’re doing better ❤️

Alanna Banana 🍌

Yeah, I love this movie because it is mostly lighthearted and fun and wholesome. At the beginning of the year I had hard times, mental issues and these movies one and two, helped me a lot. They are just feelgood movies. I hope you'll watch the sequel soon, it might not be as good as the first one, but I still liked ist enough because of the characters. Especially the moose😁

Animalsareangels 94

Rutt and Tuke did a whole movie commentary in character on the DVD. first commentary I watched. Saw it so many times I learnt it. thanks for doing this one .

kimberley

You are not alone in this! I've watched this movie countless of times and I aaalways cry... I feel the tears starting to creep up right from the start mainly cause I just love it soo much and every scene provokes so much emotion and I love the story so much!

Ida L

I was gonna mention this too. i paint and draw a lot and I started following Aaron on Youtube a looong time ago for his art and animation lessons way before I even knew the extent of his work at Disney. I've always LOVED Brother Bear and when I found out he was a director on it it made so much sense! He is an absolute master at conveying form, movement and feeling in his art. Anyone here who is interested in drawing, painting or animation should really check him out he is great at teaching! He has tons of free lessons on Youtube on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/@AaronBlaiseArt And he also has great, extensive courses on his website: https://creatureartteacher.com He is one of my favorite artists and the best art teacher I've found anywhere so I feel like I just have to give him a shoutout!

Ida L

My copy was on VHS and I def was rewatched it a few 100 times as a kid.

jessie ashton

Yes, we wore out this DVD. 🙋🏽‍♀️

Lena

Btw my random reaction i put on while i have something in the background is the tangled reaction

Steven Warner

This movie is so great. Like you said Oak, for me it's the message of putting yourself in someone else's shoes because you'll really see a different perspective and image of them. Beautiful movie

Ivan Rasmussen

Completely agree! Badd medicine reactions feel complete when we have all four of our guys cause we always wanna hear from each of them but it’s understandable they can’t all be available for every reaction of course 🙏🏻

Laura B

BeAUTIFUL ReACTION!

Patience

YESSS

Steven Warner

You guys need to watch A land before time and An American Tail.

SailorChristy91

Did I cry watching the movie? Yes, yes I did🤭 loved the reaction and review, thanks guys, for watching it✨

Alexiani Gollarza

Since you mentioned liking the animation- This was one of the last hand-drawn animations that Disney produced. The lead artist and co-director was Aaron Blaise whose expertise in animal animation made him a staple at Disney during his time there (he was animator for Beast, and Raja, and some of the lions in Lion King) . He has been a guest on Animators React where he's talked about his specific scenes before as well as the making of Brother Bear and bringing the vision to life. I highly recommend checking him out.

Griffin

Not disappointed but always hurt when diamond dave isnt here!

Steven Warner

You were correct that Kenai is played by Joaquin Phoenix. Joaquin tragically lost his brother as well, so being a part of this film was both very difficult and very important to him.

Griffin

My ongoing request for Hunchback of Notre Dame plzzz🤞(it is a darker movie, but still one of my favs as a kid) Lilo & Stitch would be great too.

Al

thank you 💜

Alyssa Dyson

I couldn’t imagine losing my brother at such a young age, Alyssa. I hope you’re doing okay. Sending lots of love to you both. ❤️

Alanna Banana 🍌

I meant brother bear 2

Elroy

I liked it as a kid now idk it doesn’t really hit

Elroy

What a beautiful movie with incredible animation. So glad to watch this with you guys. 🐻

Alanna Banana 🍌

I adore this movie! hits all the emotions. There is a Brother Bear 2...it's a hit or miss. You either like it or you don't.

Emilysr97

One of my favourite animated Disney films, you guys should watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame next!

Alex Turnbull

you guys should watch Treasure Planet next! lol yall are forever making me laugh with the random character name pronounciatins

Eryn Young

You saying it's 21 years old should be marked as a hate crime...I was enjoying and nodding along and then you hit me with that and my face dropped lol. 2003 is a max 10 years ago!

important nobody

A childhood masterpiece right here!! If you guys love this kind of animation and you haven’t seen it, you should check out Lilo and Stitch and Atlantis!

Justin Russell

I cry every time I watch this movie, as I did in theaters when it came out.

Emily G

I’ve seen this movie twice: when it first came out and now. And both times I cried when baby Koda found out about his mother. Orphans make me cry, animals make me cry, so of course animal orphans make me cry.

Lauren

I am so glad you guys enjoyed this one! Been refreshing all day waiting :D I love that you guys brought up 2D disney movies, I miss them a lot and as much as I love the new style, there is so much charm in the hand drawn style. One of the last ones done in 2D was Princess and the Frog in 2009 which I also think you guys would enjoy!

Katie Madsen

Yayyyy!!! Literally cannot wait my wifi is f*cked right now so Ill prolly just watch it tomorrow 😩

Amanda Garten

Yayyy!! So happy it's finally here!! I was so excited for this one! Can't wait to watch it! :D

Alexandra

The duality in the comments of “i remember this movie completely” and then “yeah i remember nothing” is amazing

slavicandsapphic

Thank you so much 💜 I lost my brother and his best friend in 2002 they were 17 &18 and it was a month before my 14th birthday. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. I still struggle today from time to time. 💜 so sorry to hear of your loss as well. Those who have been through it know and empathize with that pain 💜

Alyssa Dyson

First I wanna say I am so sorry for your loss, and I honestly empathize with how much this movie means after a loss of a brother. My older bro passed away three years ago now and this movie has meant so much more to me as I’ve gotten older. If i remember correct, one of the VAs had also lost his brother before the recording of this film :((

slavicandsapphic

I loved this movie growing up! I memorized the whole movie loll

Sammy Galindo

I haven’t seen this since the year it came out when I was a kid. I don’t remember anything about it. Excited to watch it with you guys. Will be like a first time watch

Alanna Banana 🍌

The period Phil Collins had Disney in a choke hold is my favourite disney era of all time

Liona N

Aww I love this movie, watched so many times as a kid i know the most of the dialogue.

Liona N

Culper (Lukas)

I've been waiting for this the entire day!!!! can't wait!!! Sadly I have to work but I'll be back (insert terminator's voice xD)

Alexiani Gollarza

Even watching it blurred, I know the scene and dialogue.

Samantha Stavropoulos

Better than spirit but still a top 5 Disney movie

C. J. Ramirez

Yooo whoever recommended this movie is awesome. This movies sound track is soo good. I still listen to the sound track while I'm at work, or while I'm headed to a party. Me in my car: "Tell everybody I on my way!" 🎶
