The geography of the AoT world is actually accurate to the real world where Paradis is todays Madagascar. It is seen in the episode where you watched dub and "the continent" west of Paradis which Grisha's dad is refering to would be Africa. However not sure if Africa would be considered Marley.

Erwin did not reject the injection. I’ve seen people say this so many times when if they just looked at the screen they would know that didn’t happen. Erwin was having a hallucination/dream of being back in school, his body reacted to his imagination of him raising his hand in class. He was not conscious when Levi was giving him the injection, he was imagining his question to his father. Totally unaware of what was happening in real time. None of what I said relates to what you said. Floch was right from a military standpoint is all I said. Erwin was proven to everyone while admin was an unknown. This could spark civil war.

Levi made a logical choice, if you remember they kept replaying his conversation with kenny "everyone had to be drunk on somethin to keep pushing on". Levi compared the dreams of Erwin and Armin, one was a basement, the other was dreams of the sea, the sand dunes and the world. If Erwin reaches the basement, it was made clear to levi that he had no further goals so he decided to let him rest.

I’d say it’s very very noticeable as mappa animated in a much darker, fine lined tone compared to wits light and thicker brush style animation. WITs style also flows a lot better than mappas. However I think mappas style did suit the later seasons

He was not objectively right. Erwin rode into that charge choosing death, and only regretting that he wouldn't get to know what the great secret was. He himself admitted that he wasn't in it for any grand reason or lofty goal, he was selfish. When it came time to choose and he saw that Levi was going to choose him, Erwin slapped the needle away, making it clear that he believed he was the wrong choice and that it should go to Armin. No matter how brilliant a commander he was, he had chosen death and made his peace with it. This shift in mentality would have compromised his actions going forward and made him unfit for leadership. He had essentially given all that he had left to give in his final charge. Keeping him alive would just be a shitty thing at that point, which is the real reason that Floch wanted him alive. Let's not forget that what he really wanted was to make Erwin keep on suffering, which is why he was fighting so hard to keep him alive. His own argument was rooted in emotion too. I think Erwin as he was for the majority of the series was the correct choice to revive too, but that's not the Erwin that was remaining on that rooftop. That Erwin was ready to die, and there's no fixing that.

The thing that always got me is that Erwin himself chose to give it to Armin. I can't remember if that was something that only Levi saw or if it was something that others could see too, but if only Levi saw it then he should have spoken up and said something. It does no good to let resentment brew among your soldiers over such an easily fixable misunderstanding. Floch would still want Erwin to live just because he hates Erwin for the death charge, but nobody could begrudge Erwin the right to hang up his cloak and go to sleep after having worked and fought for so long.

I don't know if you've filmed any of next season but a heads up they changed the studio who animated the show between seasons so don't be surprised to see the change up and also incorporate a lot more CGI. The narrative also becomes more and more complex so you have to really pay attention to the exposition and the characters to fully understand it.

Honestly, for channels like yours that lean into the discussion and analysis aspect of reactions, I wouldn't hate the idea of an Attack on Titan rewatch run after a few months to sit with it. I think one reason reactions of this series do well is because there is such a huge difference between watching it the first time and watching it knowing the full backstory and where things go by the end of the series, so there is a whole other -- often radically different -- perspective to give on every episode.

I'll be up front and say I dislike pretty much everything about Floch's character. One thing that I have picked up on that I almost never see anyone else talk about is how Floch retells Marlow's story to Hitch. He starts off by saying all the cliché stuff about being a hero but then turns his speech around and says Marlow regretted being with the Scouts and died like that. He then gets mad at Jean when Jean try's to stop him. Here's my problem right off the bat with him, we as the audience had an inside view to Marlow's thought process as he died. He never once regretted his decision, he thought about Hitch and about how nice it would be like her, but his inner monologue wasn't "I wish I was never here". Floch came up with that on his own because at his core he is a self described coward. He had no idea what Marlow was thinking but he told others with 100% assurance that he did. He used his dead comrade's memories to push his own agenda and at the end of the day I think that is disgusting. Even worse, he did it with a person like Marlow, who literally died doing what he believed in and basically used his death to make an argument that Marlow would have never supported.

I agree. I think another great story for them would be Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I know there are a lot of great animes out there but it's another good entry anime. It has both the traumatizing elements of AOT and the heartwarmingness of ATLA.

From someone who was in Camp Erwin when I watched it, I did agree with a lot of what he said. I hated him as a character as well, but he did say something like, "Eren, I know deep down you always think you're right," which I thought was a huge reality check. Obviously Eren, Mikasa and Armin are the main protagonists but I think it's always good to have that check against them. I also sometimes explore, what if it was Erwin who was brought back at that time and how different of an impact it would have had moving forward. I think that's something interesting to discuss once the guys finish the show.

So excited for Season 4!!! I might have recency bias, but I truly think Season 4 is the best season. I read the manga after Season 3 ended, and watching Season 4 come to life after reading it was really an amazing experience. The art style changes (because the animation studio changed), and while I love the art from 1-3, something about 4's art really sends it to a whole new level. It truly does the manga justice. Can't wait to see what you guys think about where the story goes!! And the opening numbers are hype AF On another note, Armin is my absolute favorite character and I really appreciate how you guys see his brilliance. To think Armin was a fried crisp and left for dead by Levi only to have his dream fulfilled with Eren and be very much alive at the end of the season. It’s so poetically beautiful that Levi chose to lay Erwin and his dream to rest which allowed Armin’s dream to live.

Long Post I hated Floch when I read the manga the first time, but some comments about him really changed my thoughts about his presence throughout the rest of the show. They say he is a necessary character representing direct opposition to the main characters and the voice of the many who, unlike us who have seen what our trio have gone through and done, haven't gotten to know our main characters well enough to place their full trust in them. To this, I agree. Floch didn't know Armin like we know him. Even when presented with the facts about what Armin has done, they still lacked the impact of what he witnessed when his group was led by Erwin in that suicide ride, and the knowledge of Erwin's years of experience as commander. So, I can understand how Floch resented the group, especially since he was literally there when Levi had to choose between Armin and Erwin. To him, the choice was simply between a 'smart' soldier and a leader/war hero. At this point in the show, he's an antagonist that presents to our trio the conflict of how, in times of war where most people are made to just follow orders and submit to authority, there are bound to be people who are dissatisfied, weary, confused, and frustrated about the decisions of the higher-ups. That needs to be seen, to be part of the narrative, since this show heavily touches on politics and the military. And they did so effectively through Floch. Floch's character brings in the complexity of the situation, which painfully highlights how people are seen differently when viewed from different perspectives. I still don't like him, but I understand where he's coming from. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Floch (pronounced flock, like flock of sheep) was objectively right. While we the audience know of Armin and his accolades, Armin is still an overall unknown entity to the entire military. Whereas Erwin was arguably the most famous man on paradis island, certainly the most successful soldier. The military looks at it like “why the hell was this kid picked over commander Erwin”. A decision of this magnitude, if perceived to be the wrong decision could spark civil war if enough people are mad about it. It doesn’t matter what Armin has done, Erwin is proven over years while Armin is only a few months in the game in their eyes. Floch was also right that eren and Levi were emotional. Levi told floch in the same episode he chose Erwin to die rather than bring him back to continue suffering this life. Levi didn’t choose Armin, he chose to let Erwin’s suffering end. Keep an eye out for floch in season 4.

Please read: 1. The only reason eren saw that memory is because he owns the founding titan and he came into contact with historia who is of royal blood. This connection between the founding titan and royal blood is why he could control titans when he touched Dina’s titan and when he saw himself eat his dad when historia and rod reiss touched him earlier in season 3 2. Armin wouldn’t get the same flash of memories like eren does because he is neither royal blood or founding titan

When they reached the Ocean I cried. I had been with this anime since I was a freshman in high school and this season finale happened a month or maybe two after I had just graduated college with my bachelor’s. I also cried later when rewatching in 2023 preparing for the end of the show and a mutual on Twitter says it’s a sad scene for Eren cause Armin is like see I told you it was true and not a fantasy but Eren had already knew it was real because he saw it through his dad’s memories so the magic of the moment was gone. Watching with you guys again I got teary eyed a bit cause it’s truly one of my favorite moments in the show and the manga. It’s the turning point for everything.

I would suggest going into the next season with the blu-ray versions as part 1 of season 4 has some clearly rushed animation every now and again. Just makes for a better watch experience and I don't think Crunchyroll uses the blu-ray unfortunately. Either way if not it's still amazing and i'm looking forward to you guys' reactions.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the animation studio for season 4 was changed from WIT to MAPPA so there will be a difference in art style. Some like it some don't but I can say that it is very similar to the art style of the manga.

The first time i saw this episode it was weird, because yes we were finally at the sea, one of the big objectives the main characters has, but with all that was going on about Eldia and Marley and all this i felt more like Eren, worried about what is about to come

For me season 3 part 2 is probably aots best portion of the show while season 4 as a full season is better because it’s just incredible from start to end while season 3 part 1 doesn’t hold up to what came after it

I’d say it’s very very noticeable as mappa animated in a much darker, fine lined tone compared to wits light and thicker brush style animation. WITs style also flows a lot better than mappas. However I think mappas style did suit the later seasons

This is still the best season in my opinion, now I'm not saying that it's downhill from here cause it's not, the final season is even crazier. Season 3 just felt like the best season with the character developments, lore drops and the twists.

I remember the first time I saw the sea at 9 yrs old and it felt exactly like this episode. A quiet moment of awe followed by curiosity and playfulness. One of my favorite moments in the whole series
