It was History of the World Part 1 that spoofed the parting of the Ref Sea. Bless Mel. 😂 The Bible, especially The Old Testament, is violent. People for whatever reason seem to gloss over that in their heads. Unfortunate, but true, is that the violence is what makes so many of the lessons stick. Commentary on the human condition if I've ever heard one. Having such a titular story animated so frankly is what makes it powerful for modern audiences. There's no hiding behind fancy text or words. Something animation-wise that I think is worth mentioning: during the parting of the Red Sea the shadow you see isn't a whale that most people mistake it for on first glance. The tale moves side to side not up and down. It is a shark. 😶

I grew up in a very religious household, and this movie was a staple. However, this one was told in a way that regardless of the religious aspect, it was beautifully animated story.

Yes I grew up catholic and it was a staple in the house, not only for story but we are musical ppl. It also was shown on movie day in Elementary-Middle school.

48:45 that line you read Oak (from the song) is THE line and it comes directly from the bible, that's how God sees us, if we are lost he goes and finds us and brings us to safety, like a shepherd, even if the entire group of sheeps is okay and only one is lost he still cares. Like if you have $100 and only loose $1 it doesn't really matter, you have $99 but for God, that one is important (the connection in the bible is in Luke 15) Also, I saw this movie hundreds of times at church, I don't remember it hitting as hard with the adult themes (it does now) but it didn't before. Amazing movie and amazing reaction guys, thanks!!

This movie always blows people away because it's never what they expect. It is the most accurate portrayal when it comes to depicting what is written in the Book of Exodus (Moreso than "The Ten Commandments", and MUCH moreso than "Exodus: Gods and Kings" which came out a few years ago). Still with many liberties taken for the sake of making an entertaining movie, but close enough that it's often shown as Edu-tainment. The biggest controversy, so to speak, was choosing to depict Ramesses II as The Pharaoh. Exodus doesn't identify the Pharaoh by name, so it's a whole big argument amongst historians and religious scholars over who it's supposed to be (Not even getting into the debate over whether it happened at all in the first place). Ramesses is one of the contenders, but it's far from a unanimous agreement. "The Ten Commandments" chose to use him as The Pharaoh in 1956, and since then almost every other adaptation has followed suit because the general public already 'knows' that he was Pharaoh for this story. I have the soundtrack, it's so good. You're right that it definitely gives a Broadway feel, but it never overplayed its hand and always used the music to TELL the story instead of distracting from it.

This was a staple movie growing up, I had a Christian childhood (going to church Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, attending Sunday school and all) and this was one of those films my mother had me watching basically all the time. Despite what I myself believe in now, this movie is very much still impactful and beloved in my heart. Because the animation is so beautiful and the soundtrack is just God tier (haha), along with the message. The song at the end is one I listen to every so often, it’s a song that’s gotten me through some hard times in life. I’m so glad you guys appreciate the movie for what it is, without prejudice or ignorance. You guys are awesome ❤️ this one was a good one🌸
