EARLY ACCESS: Blade Trinity FULL REACTION

Not a complete miss here, this one wasn't like the first two films. The film follows Blade (Wesley Snipes) as he teams up with a group of vampire hunters called the Nightstalkers, led by Abigail Whistler (Jessica Biel) and the wisecracking Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds). This time, Blade faces his most formidable enemy yet: the original vampire, Dracula, now known as Drake (Dominic Purcell). As Blade battles this ancient evil, he must also contend with the FBI, manipulated by vampires to hunt him down.

The film maintains the franchise's signature dark and stylish visuals, with atmospheric settings and sleek costumes that contribute to its gothic aesthetic. Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds were great additions to this film. As well as The Game Triple H and objectively speaking, he was very entertaining.

In our opinion, The storyline feels convoluted and lacks the tight narrative of the previous films. The introduction of multiple new characters and subplots dilutes the focus on Blade, making the plot feel scattered and less engaging. If we had to rank the films, this would rank 3. Overall, it was entertaining enough. What is your reaction to Blade Trinity?

Loved this reaction, movie has its moments. And yeah blade is a badass but 1 vampire he can't defeat I'd say would be van helsings dracula since only a werewolf can eliminate him.

I'm Batman

Stan Lee was doing cameos waaaaay before iron man. His first on screen cameo was in the trial of the hulk in '89 I believe was the year. Also appearing in Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films and X-Men movies. But to your credit, his first mcu cameo was indeed iron man, just wasn't his first marvel cameo.

I'm Batman

so Ryan was in 2 marvel movies and a DC movie before Deadpool? haha

Joaquin garcia

There was no Stan Lee cameo until the first Iron Man. The movie wasn't great, but I didn't mind watching it back in the day because of the cast. There was a Blade TV show, but it tanked and got canceled. Then there was the MCU Blade that we were supposed to get, with Mahershala Ali as Blade in November 2023, but it got pushed back to November 2025. Now, it has been delayed again because scripts keep changing. Last week, it was announced that Mahershala Ali will star in the new Jurassic World movie. This means there will be no Blade production happening this year, and likely no Blade movie next year.

Nope, you’re not the only one! I think all 3 films are pretty silly with questionable effects & is quite cheesy. I think this one is a blast, I know it’s not great but Ryan makes me laugh & I love his character. I like the team aspect as well. And it’s also a soft spot because not only is Triple H in this but it was also the first movie I ever saw Ryan in & I fell in love, lol. And I love Parker Posey in this, she’s a blast, so over the top & chews up every scene!

I saw all 3 in theaters and I agree. We owned 1&2 on VHS so I watched it a few times throughout the years and found I could never fully give it my attention. So I skip it. But I agree, the soundtracks are really good!

Megan

Same. I saw it in the theatre, wasn't a big fan of it. Watched it again when it hit video, still didn't care for it. The album is fire though. I have all 3 Blade soundtracks. Trinity has a few good songs but it's not consistently as good as 1 and 2.

This Blade movie is so bad it's like a parody. I don't get why they did this. Blade 1 and 2 was sooo good.

I guess there are just two of us then. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I've maybe seen 2 a handful of times. And only because other people wanted to watch it. The fight scenes were good, I just cannot get into the movie! If it weren't for the opening club scene in 1, Trinity would be my favorite!

Megan

Thank god I'm not the only one. The second movie is also my least favourite. I think I had only seen it once and never rewatched it, because I didn't like it at all. Blade Trinity was always my favourite tbh.πŸ˜…

Stephanie

My favorite blade movie tbh

C. J. Ramirez

Haven't watched yet so not sure if you covered it. But this movie was supposed to set up a spinoff (I think tv show but could have still been movies) centered on Ryan and Jessica. Sad it didn't happen. And this movie may also feel different because Snipes was in full blown diva mode. He refused to talk to people, and basically actually be filmed. If I remember correctly, it was his stunt double for most of the film and group scenes because he refused to leave his trailer. Fun tidbit. When Jessica shot the arrow at the camera, she hit it dead center and destroyed the camera TWICE! They had a cage covering the camera except for that center (to film) and the director told her to aim for that opening because they didn't think she would hit it, Jessica included. But she did and freaked because the camera cost a few hundred thousand dollars. They reassured her that's what insurance was for. They all thought it was a fluke and he told her to do it again for the reshoot and she hit it again. Jessica's got skill! Personally, I love this film. People like to hate on it but it isn't that far off from the previous. The other two also have weak storylines and just focus on the action. This storyline didn't delve to much into a story either, probably because this was supposed to set up a series. It had goofiness, humor, and a good cast. For me, 2 was my least favorite, it just didn't hit but makes sense because it is a Del Toro film and I just can't get into his work (other than Hellboy). 1&3 are always a rewatch for me.

Megan

About to watch now! I've been so excited for you guys to get to this one! Not sure why since it's not my favorite but for some reason I've always liked it alot even so. πŸ˜† I'd say #2 is my favorite, followed in second by this, and then the first movie.

Do yourselves a favor and look up some of Patton Oswalt's stories from the set of this movie. It's pretty wild, and almost entirely centered around how Wesley Snipes was acting behind the scenes, like refusing to speak to the director and only communicating through Post-It notes, and telling people to refer to him as Blade, among other things. Highly entertaining stuff. (He said all of this in one of AVClub's Random Roles interviews years ago.)
