EARLY ACCESS: Moana FULL REACTION

LINK: Moana FULL REACTION

Moana has arrived, and what a delight it is! This has the perfect mix of everything. Many of you are already familiar with its premise, but it's worth highlighting just how visually stunning this film is. The production team truly brought the world of Moana to life with their incredible work.

The soundtrack, composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina, is another standout feature. The songs are irresistibly catchy, and we can't help but tap our toes a bit.

The voice acting is superb. Everyone involved brought their A-game. Auli'i Cravalho shines as Moana, delivering an excellent performance. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is brilliant as Maui, and Jemaine Clement brings a memorable touch to Tamatoa. The song "Shiny" is particularly infectious! Overall, fantastic film. This is one you can watch over and over just for the music alone.

Comments

I for sure cried while watching this for the umpteenth time

jenny meresse

Not only did Lin-Manuel Miranda write the music for MOANA and ENCANTO, but he also collaborated/wrote songs for THE LITTLE MERMAID live action film that came out last year! I highly recommend you guys react to it-I think it’s the best remake to date. Pays homage to the original animated film beautifully!

Kaley

Would love to see FROZEN and FROZEN II!

Kaley

I really enjoyed this reaction. As Polynesian , Samoa 🇼🇸/Tokelau 🇹🇰 decent to be more specific, living in Aotearoa (NZ) Just wanna share a bit about the Music The music played in this is by Te Vaka (lead: Opetaia Foa’i) who is of Tokelau/Tuvalu born in Samoa. The part where Moana is just a child by the waves , the song playing is called “Loimata e maligi” which translates to “falling tears /let your tears fall” , Opetaia wrote this song initially dedicated to the 19 young girls who lost their lives in a school fire in Tuvalu 2000. So the lyrics are so beautifully sad. ****** Very quick , can’t get into all of it but Maui mentions a tattoo of his and I just wanna explain it in very briefly - 🇼🇸 story of a girl named Sina and an Eel (fast forward), Sina ended up burying the Eels head and it grew the very first coconut tree, hence the eyes/nose on the coconut)

Ana Setefano

Since you guys watched Hamilton- Lin Manuel Miranda wrote the music to this and Encanta as well. Though you may already know that. :)

Rachel0701

Loved watching this again with you guys ❤️ thank you!

Caroline Harrison

Much as I would love to see those, too, I'm sure the reason we don't is because they saw all those movies multiple times as kids like all the rest of us did. There's nothing to react to when it's a film you've already seen several times over.

Amy Petty

Hey, I know it's been a couple of days since you posted this video, but I thought of let you know that the teaser trailer for Moana 2 just drop a couple of days ago. You guys should check it out. ☺️

LaLa

Psychotic comment lol. You really said “why didn’t they show colonisation and the enslavement of indigenous people

Clorox bleach G

No changes. Encoders could be different

Badd Medicine

Did they mix up the playspeed? It's very hard to sync it up, it feels like the speeds on their clip is all over the place lol. Great reaction as always!

Goofy scoundrel

Yes! Would love to see them react to Frozen! I always have to have a blanket with me when I watch it though because I always start to feel cold 🥶 LOL!

Kaley

Yes-Frozen and Frozen 2!

Kaley

Kaley

well now you haveee to watch frozen!!

Edie

I didn't mean people didn't know was made as tribute and was unknown I meant they didn't realise some of the choices made was deliberate due to being tribute. As far as discussions that I have seen and had about it personally. Everyone of course entitled to own opinions and first time I watched it I felt same way about the art style and some of the story is unnecessary but after watching if few times with sons and learning more about it I enjoyed Easter egg hunting watching it and actually ended up enjoying it after couple watches was all I was trying to say. It's a very love it or hate it type of movie.

Lisa - Marie

Does that include the Christian pacific islanders that don't follow the pagan beliefs of their ancestors? If not, then you can't say that it's "representation" for them. Turns out that just making a character or story based around a certain people group isn't actually "representation" because people are all different and not a monolith. You wanna represent someone? Make a story about *only* them, because only they are themselves. Otherwise you're just reducing them to arbitrary features and saying they belong to that category cause you said so.

Marco Gutierrez

Yessss to Onward

People DO know that Wish was made as a tribute to 100 years of Disney, though. That's by no means unknown, not least because Disney made a huge point of marketing it precisely as such. Sorry, but that's NOT why the movie is underrated, not at all. It's just actually not a very good movie, in general or by Disney's own usual standards.

Amy Petty

@Megan - I think you miswrote something? 1300-900BCE is only 400 years and I think the Long Pause happened after that period.

Amy Petty

I agree that seeing Oak dance a little to the music was so fun to watch! I was hitting a shimmy too, not gonna lie! 😂

Miya

I saw the same thing! I'll just come right out and say it - I love all the BM dudes but Oak is hands down my favorite because I'm a grown ass adult myself and I get SO emotionally caught up in movies like this, or, to cite other recent examples I've watched, Encanto, or One Piece. I'm known within my social circle for having powerful visceral responses - anger, joy, sadness, all of it - to the point where a lot of my friends get as much amusement from watching me emote as they do from whatever we're watching - and spend a lot of time in the aftermath being all "you do know it's just a fictional story, right?" So yeah, watching Oak get so emotionally drawn into a movie or tv series such that one minute he's distraught and the next he's practically dancing in his seat...it's the greatest thing ever and I love every second of it! :D

Amy Petty

Yes !

corina salazar

Please watch Onward! It’s an amazing movie that doesn’t get talked about enough!

corina salazar

I agree it's definitely underrated. I think wish is too due to people not realising was made purposely as tribute to 100 years of disney which is why art style way is and all the easter eggs.

Lisa - Marie

Love the reactions as always and I wanted give a fun fact about the Kakamora (little coconut pirates), these are somewhat known to be mythical people in the Solomon Island. We are Melanesians in the South Pacific and in the Solomon Island these Kakamora are known to be very short with long hair that are known to be very fast runners. There was an old, local soccer team that they named after the Kakamora because the tale is from their region and all the guys in the team were the fastest in the league.

Fedei

Petition for you guys to react to Frozen since Oak hasn’t seen it. He’d love it.

Kel

The chicken totally stole the movie haha.

Kel

I 100% second elemental! It’s completely under rated! I enjoyed onward and frozen so much too.

Elizabeth Green

Just started watching this reaction a few minutes ago and I gotta say it's freaking hilarious and adorable watching/listening to you guys react so viscerally to the animal sidekicks. :D

Amy Petty

also this movie combined a bunch of polynesian cultures, maori, samoan, native hawaiian etc.. it was representation for all pacific islanders!

Princess Mia

you guys should 100% watch frozen if you haven't seen it, it got overhated because of its popularity but i genuinley think its a great movie

Princess Mia

Sameee, I LOVE Frozen

Marsss

the music in this movie is phenomenal. lin-manuel miranda never ever misses. this was one of the most fun reactions i have had with you guys to date! thank you!

Jenna

this is so amazing to learn about. thank you so much for sharing!

Jenna

Moana is such a weird movie to me since it’s a fictional movie inspired from my cultural background ( Māori ) as well as other cultures from the islands in Polynesia ( Samoa, Hawaii, Tonga etc. ) but mixes them together and portrays a more lighthearted view on how things work in our cultures. So I’m never really sure if I like it or not because although our cultures have similarities, especially between us Māori and our cousins, the native Hawaiians. We still have very different customs & beliefs Anyways great reaction and just wanna give some interesting facts: - Te fiti’s heart is inspired by Pounamu, which is a special type of green stone found in my home country Aotearoa/New Zealand. We make cultural tools, necklaces & weaponry out of it. Another interesting fact: - Is that Maui in my culture is just a cunning trickster type of mythical character instead of the hero demigod/saviour type told in Moana and other Polynesian cultures. He is naughty & petty, always did things that involved stealing, exploiting or tricking others ( mainly gods ) to get his way. If I were to compare him to a well-known worldwide character, very similar to Loki. Maui also doesn’t have a big build like what he does in Moana, he’s smaller and slimmer with a Tā moko ( Māori tattoo all over his face ) There are many tales told about Maui in my culture but majority of them are either dark tales or grim-like stories where he ( like I said before ) exploits/tricks others to steal from them or performs pretty cruel acts like turn his brother in-law into a dog all cause he was jealous of him being a better fisher ( which is a tale of how the first dog came to be ) His magical fish hook is actually made from his grandmother’s ( Murirangawhenua ) jaw-bone. Which he used to fish up the North Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand or known as Te Ika-A-Maui/Maui’s fish, along with his brothers. While his canoe/boat is known as the South Island/ Te Waipounamu. This story is called ‘The creation of the North & South Island - Maui & the giant fish’, it is one of the most well-known tales about him. The thing Maui said about him slowing down the sun in Moana, that is also another famous and well-known tale told in my culture but he didn’t do it alone. His brothers helped him with this too, they defeat the sun god ‘Tamanuitera’ and basically beat him into submission, forced him to slow down and make the days longer These are told to us as kids stories too by the way, we learns these at Kohanga/Daycare and Elementary school age through picture books

~Mercedeez Lee~

you guys need to sit down with Oak and watch the Abyss.

Ryan Towell

Exactly!

Eric Wallace

Honestly would be cool to see your score of the films when you're not in the reaction vid ^_^

JiaHailstorm

Another great reaction, not sure if been said already but Dwayne Johnson based his maui character partially on his grandfather who was a samoan chief. if not already seen should watch elemental, onward and frozen too.

Lisa - Marie

No I was literally gonna say this too! (And Frozen 2 as well! I actually enjoy that one even more!)

Erlacine

Alanna Banana 🍌

i would love that! I know Frozen gets a lot of hate now but it's honestly a really good movie, great characters and music.

Annie519

Yes! I've been wanting them to do that one. I think it's very underrated and doesn't get talked about enough.

Annie519

Giselle Hernandez Torres

I knew it would hit Oak right in the feels with the grandma stuff!

Michelle Kaiser

yeah aha! it was pretty surreal to see a character a grew up hearing about be represented by Disney 😭❤️

L JF

I’ve been saying this forever😭

Reem

Haha was the exact same with my niece when she was little! Now I watch it alllll the time, and listen to the OST constantly. Def became my favorite “new” animated Disney movie. 💚

Yen Shively

Love this! You guys should absolutely look into Onward!

BugBite23

AHHHHHHHHHH ITS HEEEEERE!!!!

Yen Shively

I give this reaction 5 answers! 😂 The word ¨Moana¨ means ocean 🌊 ¨Heihei" means chicken lol🐓 and ¨Pua¨ which is derived from the word Puaka, means pig 🐷, this can vary through the many Polynesian dialects and language. This movie is based on MANY of the Pacific Island Culture, Legends, and Languages. The Legend of Maui is also a very well known story throughout Polynesia. As a Polynesian, im glad yous enjoyed. 🙌

Ihakara Waata Toby

I didn't know Maui is actually a figure in legend/myth! Very cool! I love how "Moana" also formed a legend around the real-life phenomenon where Polynesian wayfinders actually stopped adventuring for about 1000 years between 1300 BCE and 900 BCE. Archaeologists call it "The Long Pause" and no one knows why they stopped! (except now we clearly know it's because Maui stole the heart of Te Fiti duh)

Megan Cunningham

❤️❤️❤️

Miya

🤣🤜🤛

Badd Medicine

I just miss you Dave lol

Eric Wallace

Haha.... I've seen it like 50x (not all in one sitting) because of my kiddos. A top notch film though. 🤘

Badd Medicine

Eric Wallace

Great reaction gents. Id love a little little editors interjection from dave

Eric Wallace

Raquel Perodin

please watch “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” it is one of my favorite movies of all time and has such a good message.

Jacqueline Brown

Got my old fashioned, spaghetti on the stove, start of a 3 day weekend, LFG

Steven Warner

to answer, what Answer said at the end LMAO - this movie takes inspiration from many different cultures within the Polynesian community (Maori, Samoan, Tuvaluan, Hawaiian etc) and the legend of Maui was actually a tale my grandmother used to tell me growing up. I think Disney did a great job at trying to include as many polynesian backgrounds as they could into one film :) loved your reaction! 🤎

L JF

I love that Oak. "Just take a risk and fking go for it"

MJ Eid

DAMN RIGHT three 5’s hahaha 💕 💕 😂

Love10 ❤️

Miya

Te fiti’s transformation at the end always makes me cry. It’s such a beautiful metaphor for trauma and healing. Of course, can’t go without saying that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s music makes the movie shine even greater. Thank you for this reaction! I had been looking forward to it all week!

Lauren
