EARLY ACCESS: Attack on Titan OVA Ilse Notebook FULL REACTION

Comments

My man really said "the intro music can't get better" lmao

Jonah Bertorelli

Yea some people like reactors watching it before S2 for the Ymir reaction. Others like reactors watching after S2 so that the Beast Titan is the first instance of a titan speaking.

Saynt Michael

Irvin’s decision was valid but it just goes to show how much power Hange (for Andrew: “HA-ngee” prononciation my guy 💀) brought to the scouts with science. The fact that they lost no lives with a more immature team of the best scouts in history is extremely commendable and I’m not really understanding why she doesn’t receive more recognition or promotions for that other than for plot which kinda agitated me lol

Katryna Lavin

Hange did have a reaction to Ymir's name in Season 2, but you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it, since it happens so fast in essentially the background of a scene where they are primarily talking about Krista.

Apollo

I guess the downside of watching this before season 2 is that at the first mention of Ymir's name in the regular episode, you'd be in such high alert and would have suspected and thought differently of her when in fact, what Season 2 showed us of Ymir for a few episodes seems bewildering in connection to the notebook and only until the reveal of her cult did it make a connection. And truth is we might still be missing some info about the name Ymir here so, keep your eyes peeled in regards to that name.

BennLimos

I know all of them. Even Cis and Ness who tried to protect Armin from the Female Titan. They are great charaacters who died way too quickly. Riko and Mitabi's squad in Trost, Diether and Nanaba at Utgard...

BennLimos

Guys, now get ready for season three! If you could, it would be great if you could pause the video if you need to repeat something or understand something better, hehe, I think we all watched the show on Crunchyroll when it first aired, and we had to pause and repeat every time we needed it, the truth is in this third season is more necessary. Especially in those long texts in the middle of the episode.

Magda Ch

and on the other hand, the ending song is my favorite of all! I hope you react to the ending too.

Magda Ch

Haha! I hope at the end you react to all the intro songs with the lyrics, and make your personal ranking, it would be great! Personally, the first intro of the third season is the one I like least of all.

Magda Ch

Season 3 is soooo important to understand a lot! And the ENDING… 👀

Yerena Fernanda

Completely agree!!

Samantha B

It gave a lot of foreshadowing actually, obviously I can’t point these things out since the guys read the comments and I don’t wanna spoil them but I’ll say that there’s definitely hints in the OVA for plot points in later seasons, not just s2. You just gotta pay attention. Unlike some of the other OVA, this is one of the OVA’s that was written by Isayama himself & everyone who has read the manga knows how he does things

~Mercedeez Lee~

But what lore does Llse's notebook help reveal that wasn't already revealed in season 2 without watching this OVA? Nothing really, if you think about it.

Patricia B

Great explanation

Boy blue

The levi squad died to the female titan aka Annie btw I feel like you guys didn't recognize them this episode or maybe im wrong.

Jacob

But that’s the only thing though, connecting the dots with Ymir and the lore behind that plot in the storyline would’ve given a better reaction than just worrying about the Beast Titan speaking. They still would’ve given a similar reaction to this Titan speaking in the OVA. Plus since they were still fresh from S1, if they did the OVA right after they would’ve had a better chance at piecing the hints together but since it has already been a few weeks they did season 1, it’s understandable that they’ve already forgotten some things. That’s why that OVA was made to be watched before and not after, people need to look at the bigger picture from time to time since the pay off would have been much more satisfying but anyways, what’s done is done

~Mercedeez Lee~

It's better the way they did it. Seeing the Beast Titan as the first speaking is always good stuff.

Dalek

I couldn't have said it better! There's no order for OADs, you can either skip them or watch them whenever you'd like to! Tbh, I watched them at the very end of AOT (because I didn't know their existence for a while :')), and it didn't ruin the experience at all. :D

Envinae

I think in this episode they wanted to show that sometimes consciousness can break through titan form in some particular strong cases like with this cultist lady's belief or with Connie's mom's love.

Artem Dmytrenko

I think you guys mis-interpreted what they meant by humans being titans. I explain without spoiling but mindless titans do not have humans in them, they literally are humans. A titan shifter (Eren, Reiner, Annie etc) have the ability to become a titan at will. We still dont know how humans become titans or why, although it was hinted a little in ymir's backstory. Speaking of which, this also kind of tells you what that titan was doing, I wont say who it is but you guys noticed it thought Isle was Ymir, think of who Ymir was in her past. The titan bowed, as if to present itself to "the great ymir", exactly like the people did in front of Ymir herself

Bunnings Snags

I would recommend watching episode of Ymir backstory that’s will help this episode make since

Cat

Completely agree with this. Hoping they see this

FredMCortez

Hi there from Japan! First off, thank you for reacting to AOT! Your reactions have made my life so much better, seeing things in a more positive light and what not! Just wanna say thank you for taking the time to do these reactions and committing to a "longer" series!! Because you received so many comments about the "correct order" I just wanted to mention, that OADs can be watched whenever you feel like it and there is no "rule" for when to watch them. Heck, on Netflix Japan they don't even feature all OADS and on Hulu they are in a different tire completely, so you wouldn't know when to best watch these lol. As you probably know and also mentioned in your reactions, AOT is a series that really starts to shine once you rewatch it, hence so many people are interested in seeing reactions to it. Therefore you are probably receiving tons of comments saying "You missed xxx, should have watched before season xxx". Keep in mind that these people have watched AOT so many times and probably in a faster pace that they are aware of all the little details sprinkled in there and are now acting smartass about it. For a first time watcher with a weekly schedule it is fine to not be able to filter all these details out on your first run. There is no guarantee you would have understood things differently if watched in another order either. If you ever decide to watch the show again or watch one of the Youtube compilation videos out there, where they highlight all the details, foreshadowing and what not - good! If not, that's fine as well :) Btw, I really liked your Detroit become Human series and at least to me your second run had a similar feel to what you would get and appreciate about the series when rewatching AOT ;) Thank you as always!

Pisaroto

My personal experience is that I didn’t find the Beast Titan scary because he could speak, I found him frightening cause of the way he can control the titans & also cause of the way he was basically playing/messing around with Miche is such ‘no care given’ attitude to get information out of him before he killed him

~Mercedeez Lee~

I'm glad they didn't watch it. It would have spoiled that Titans can talk, and changed their reaction to the Beast Titan and Connie's mom. It also would have probably made them figure out that ymir was a Titan long before she revealed herself.

Cherrie

I'm glad they didn't watch it. It would have spoiled the sheer terror that you feel when the Beast Titan speaks

Cherrie

Sean Carroll, i get people not recognizing gunther and the blond dude but oluos weird face is sort of memorable and literally most of the fandom only care about petras death. and her ginger hair is sort of a recognizable feature as no one else in the show has orange hair like that, all the other red heads have RED hair

Peeker

Wouldn't worry about this O.V.A too much

Zack Sutton

there is a reason why ilses notebook should technically be watched after season 1. You guys didnt remember some key details from early season 2 that would have made more sense if you watched this ova earlier. Either way a great reaction

Sean Carroll

levi squad is not memorable at all

Sean Carroll

That’s why it’s important to watch things in the order when these episodes are supposed to be watched. If you guys would’ve watched it before s2, someone could’ve connected the dots. Mind you, it would help more if you guys have notebooks to write things down that seem important and you don’t wanna forget but that’s all up to you. Anyways like some others have pointed, go back and do a rewatch of some episodes but in my opinion, all you need to do is rewatch episode 3, 4, 9 & 10 of season 2 since I believe these are the episodes that has answers to your some of your guys questions

~Mercedeez Lee~

And watch again episode 3 or 4, don't remember well, but is when Armin mentioned that Christa is always with Ymir.

Orlando Arisai Martínez Carrizales

Now watch again episode 10 of season 2

Orlando Arisai Martínez Carrizales

You guys are good doing whatever order and dub/sub or whatever you want. You can't please everyone and have to do what's best for you

Ivan Rasmussen

the titan pulling it's face because restraining itself to eat "subject of ymir" . That titan was one of the followers of ymir (fake) before transforming into titan 60yrs. ago (season 2 ep. 10)

Mhyyy

Taking notes in S3 would definitely help keep track of things.

Elijah Ramirez

season 3 is gonna be exciting 🤩🤩

Mhyyy

Loved seeing you all salute at the same time xD

Katie Madsen

This is why I keep commenting they need to take notes 🤣 some of these vital things are seriously under-valued until they actually mean something. This show is amazing at dropping little tidbits of information before a reveal and they do it over time too

Elizabeth Green

I was in the party it doesn't really matter when, or if, you watched this. However I will say if you did watch it before season 2 you might have pieced together that Ymir is the one who they had the flashback where she was taken as a child and made the leader of that cult. Then the soldiers caught them and turned Ymir and her followers into titans and tossed them off that wall in that same flashback. Idk if this is true but I pieced together from that, the titan was one of Ymir's followers that got turned into a titan same time as her.

szeth

Yeah, they watched it after S1

Gabriel P.

Wait did they really?!?

Julio Salazar

Looking forward to the post-show rankings. Your reactions to the return of S1 intro was priceless lol

Gabriel P.

There is so much to process within these last two seasons and with them having to watch the show in a weekly basis, I don’t blame them if they didn’t make the connections. But yeah, RIP Levi Squad.

Gabriel P.

They’ve already reacted to No Regrets.

Gabriel P.

It would probably be a good idea to watch a recap of season 1, and perhaps season 2, going into season 3. Just to make sure you guys have a good grasp of what has happened already and to help against missing things moving forward.

TheTurtleKing420

Great reaction and brain storming as always gentlemen! Looking forward to your start of S3 (next week I hope!) This special was missed by most people who watched the show as it was airing (like me lol) because it wasn't licensed until recently. If you ever go back to re-watch S2, you can see how the story gives subtleties to Hange's character, behaviour, and motivation. She does recognize the name Ymir from the notebook and acts accordingly when Ymir is mentioned or present. There are a few moments when you can see Hange has paused to think with critical information on the table. Now that you've seen the OVA you know exactly what she's thinking about and what puzzle pieces she's trying to put together!

Sofomo

In season 2 when the priest was talking about Christa someone mentioned Ymir always hanging around her. Hange repeats the name Ymir in a questioning way because of the notebook. It's one of those blink and you'll miss it moments.

Leslie Matsikiti

Last Repost of OVA Info: After all the arguing over the OVA’s after Season 1, I just wanted to give you guys pure non-spoiler info on the 2 OVA’s meant to be watched after Season 2 so you can make informed decisions yourselves on whether you want to watch them. OVA’s between S2 and S3: - OVA 6: Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye Part 1 - OVA 7: Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye Part 2 This is a 2-parter OVA focusing purely on Annie, just like the Levi OVA’s. In these 2 episodes you get a much deeper look into Annie’s personal thoughts, feelings, and relation with her father as you follow her around on the day before the Female Titan arc happens in Season 1. This serves as a much more in-depth character analysis of Annie than the main show provides. It is technically optional because there is nothing huge related to the main plot line in these. However, I personally really enjoy the episodes, and find getting a look inside Annie’s mind fascinating. I hope this helps! I know I’d love to see them, and I think you guys would appreciate getting some answers on Annie, but I know you have to balance the fact that it would push Season 3 back a week, making the more impatient AoT fans angry, so you’ve got to balance that as well and decide what’s best. There is no point watching these episodes after Season 3, as they no longer are interesting storywise or world-building wise at that point. (Posted before I’ve watched this weeks episodes. I’ll remove if they directly address these OVA’s already in the videos)

Kevin

Dude same! They are the only patreon I’m subscribed too because they are just that great of a channel and I love these bros 🫶🏻💪🏻

Tiffany

This is my last comment on the OVAs I promise. I'll say The sudden visitor and Distress don't really add anything it was definitely filler just to throw AoT fans a bone between S1 and 2 you can skip those. Theyre just slice of life stuff. No Regrets Part 1 and 2 you can def watch they really highlight Levi but that would probs be the last OVAs I'd touch on till after S3

Julio Salazar

did you recognize the levi squad? im not surprised that you didnt recognize olou but i wouldve atleast thought petra wouldve been memorable lol

Peeker

The name Ymir was written. I would recommend re-watching episodes 3 and 10 of the second season. These episodes highlight the events of the OVA, specifically at minute 18:00 of episode 3 and minute 12 of episode 10. I can't wait for season 3

AlexV_9

The titan in this OVA is the blonde woman that was in Ymir's cult flashback

Enchiladas

Cheers for the correction

Oh Well

A few of the OVAs dropped some hints that really flew over my head my first watch through. Just trying to clarify as best as possible with out spoiling and reminding them about things that may or may not come back into play 😂🤫

Julio Salazar

yes you wrapped it up quite well! In this case I think it is good they watched this after season 2 because they have the context already, just hard to piece it all together when so much info was given in s2 :)

starstrucker

13.5* yeah it's just a recap episode

krai

i think the titan was pulling his face to fight the urge to eat her.

Rena Unnie

The talking Titan in this stopped because yes you guys guessed it she looked like Ymir. (Now just a reminder Ymir's actual name is unknown. Remember she was picked up off the street as an orphan. She was given the name "Ymir" after and used as a figure head by a cult). The talking titan in this OVA was a cult follower. Who was arrested with Ymir and turned into a titan, the latter taking place 60 years before the events of season 1 and Ilse's event taking place 1 year prior to S1.

Julio Salazar

I believe she did write Ymir’s name down because in season 2 Hange reacted to the name Ymir for a split second

Destiny

When I saw y’all on YT, I immediately downloaded patreon! The discussions and back and forth are amazing. Everyone’s paying attention to details 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Geewonie

I know season 1s intro is amazing but the OST later on really hits. Especially one song down the line.

Julio Salazar

I think this OVA was supposed to be watched pre-S2. Because in S2 ep 3 or 4, Hange heard the name Ymir being mentioned, and she reacted to it. And ep 3.5 just shows the timeline--happened in between 3 and 4 in S1 :)

Oh Well

Yesss 3 episodes including the finale!!! Thank you BM!!

Kaitlyn Twix

Thank you guys for giving us the 2 final plus the OVA. 👏 This show is so good, cant wait to see more of your reactions

Al

Bruh y’all are so goated. 3 again for the finale. Only people I have a Patreon for a reason.

Miguel Hernandez

I surprise twist we have welcome hmmmmm.
