EARLY ACCESS: Heat FULL REACTION

LINK: Heat FULL REACTION

Heat is a quintessential 90s film that still holds up today. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro deliver powerhouse performances as Vincent Hanna (Pacino), the relentless LAPD detective, and Neil McCauley (De Niro), the disciplined career criminal. Their characters are intricately woven together, revealing unexpected similarities beneath their opposing roles. The stellar ensemble cast, featuring talents like Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, and Jon Voight, further enriches the film's depth.

The iconic scene between De Niro and Pacino in the diner exemplifies the film's brilliance, showcasing a rare moment of civil conversation between the antagonist and the protagonist. It's a testament to the film's ability to delve into the complexities of its characters in just a few minutes.

Heat does a great job of exploring themes of loyalty, and morality. The characters are multifaceted, grappling with inner demons, marital issues, and moral dilemmas as they navigate a world rife with violence and betrayal. While some character arcs, like Natalie Portman's, feel somewhat rushed, the overall impact of the film remains undiminished. Highly recommend this film if you haven't seen it.

Ted Levine was in Monk too - he played Captain Stottlemeyer. If you guys haven’t seen Monk, it’s a great show.

I’m so excited to see more dramas like this on the channel. This is such a classic and I enjoyed seeing your reactions! I think Natalie Portman’s character was in the background so when it gets to the scene where Vincent finds her in the bathtub you’re just as shocked and horrified as he is. Because like Vincent and Justine, we’ve been so wrapped up in their relationship drama and Vincent’s work that we overlook the signs that this kid is in distress. Taking people for granted is something any of us could do going about our daily lives and we don’t always see when the people we care about are hurting, and unfortunately sometimes that knowledge comes too late. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case in Heat and her life was saved. That’s just my take. 😊 I can understand how you would feel that her story isn’t rounded off to the best of its ability. Thanks for sharing another great film with us!

Wait some of you haven't seen Cape Fear either.. gotta do it. I saw this in the theater, and when it came out on VHS I bought it. So, I enjoy it, but one thing I never liked was they kind just dropped Val Kilmers character Chris. He left and we don't know what happened, where he went or anything. In movies this long and great gotta have closure to the four main characters.. That's my opinion anyway.

Pacino meeting De Niro in the restaurant is one of the greatest scenes in terms of dialogue I’ve ever seen.

I still was rooting for Robert De Niro 🤭

Heat 2 was released in book/audiobook form in 2022(?) I think. Michael Mann wrote it.

A person will find themselves rooting for both sides 😂🤘

I was really looking forward to this guys! A famously constructed scenario that does not divide good and evil. The opposites have the greatest understanding for each other, and the viewer does not necessarily have to take a stand according to morals and incompatible principles. Two demonic outcasts, totally devoted to their mission. Coincidentally, they are pointing guns at each other. Mann pulls the film together with his precise direction, which has an incredibly captivating pace and timing of dramatic climaxes. Final scene: minimalist, brilliant. Fine-tuned soundtrack. In every detail, the cast has been tightened up and the performances have been hit. Everything is in tune, the action, the psychology, the plot. If a good crime drama is supposed to look like this, then this is it.
