Unless they changed the plot of the movie significantly from the book, I actually respectfully disagree with this one. It’s basically trauma porn in my opinion, like all stories I’ve read by that author. I don’t read her books anymore for the same reason.

I highly recommend y'all look into John Green's history and why he wrote this book. He was the one leading the support in a church basement hearing from teens with cancer. He was going to be a pastor but this kind of stuff made him realize he couldn't. Years later he met a young fan that had cancer named Esther Grace. All his experiences helped form this story and made it so relatable for people of all ages. Also, This Star Won't Go Out is a charity started by that young fans parents after she passed. On her birthday, 8/3, the community celebrates Esther Day. A day for non-romanic love because frequently it's hard to remember and not feel awkward to tell friends and family that we love them and appreciate them.

It leaves a lasting sorrow, but I'd like to think the impact of them being in our lives was even greater than their deaths. I hope we can all find comfort in that.

A beautiful film. Crazy to think that Shailene and Ansel played brother and sister in the “Divergent” films-they have great chemistry. Oak and Answer-thank you for sharing your stories and I’m so sorry for your losses. I’d like to thank you all for the fact that whenever any of you get emotional, you always hold space for each other and you never look uncomfortable or embarrassed-I really respect that you are a safe space for each other! Last thing-if you guys are into reacting to more musicals, Ansel plays Tony in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “West Side Story” (2021)-it’s a great version and he actually has a lovely voice! Definitely recommend!

I have the book and managed to finish it before the movie came out, I was a mess. Then I saw the movie, I was an even bigger mess. Then I saw this, and my head hurts from all the crying. It’s honestly just.. mind boggling how cancer has touched almost everyone’s lives, in some form or another. As a child, I myself have vivid memories of my mother taking care of a family friend who was on her last days (she had a type of aggressive cancer, I just can’t remember which) and the heartbreak cannot be described with words. At the time I was too young to understand what was going on, but I remember the energy at the time. Now that I’m older, and having experienced personal loss (my older brother passed away 2 years ago) you gotta appreciate the beauty of life, despite the pain and despite the failures of what comes with it. You gotta live. If not for ourselves then for them. And thank you guys for sharing this with us, it’s a beautiful piece of work and it’s beautiful that we can all share pieces of ourselves because of it. Big hugs to you guys ❤️I’m a small gal but I want yall to know that I’m telepathically sending all the good vibes and healing your way🌻
