Anime recommendations are extremely tricky for new people. There are SO many tropes that would be off-putting for most people. Both Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen have those tropes, so I don't think it would be good for them. Death Note on the other hand, sure.

I respect all those opinions, only reason I would say otherwise is because it explains a certain character's reaction to a plot point in the coming episodes, and without watching Ilse's Notebook it just becomes a lost and forgotten moment. It really isn't the biggest deal, but literally the only way to understand what that reaction was all about. Mild SPOILER It's when Hange hears a character's name for the first time.

FMA is totally a must see for an anime fan. And I don't want to discuss JJK. It's a matter of taste and I love it and so so many others do.

You literally can't talk about the best in anime without discussing Fullmetal Alchemist. Jujutsu Kaisen really doesn't even deserve to be in consideration. It's no different than Fairy Tail and Black Clover: all fluff, no substance. All of them are pretty to look at, but the protagonist will always win even when by all rights they shouldn't. They'll just pull some random new power out of their ass with no form of development or growth.

Hi! I know I'm a few days late but I don't think I saw anyone explain what the "red dots" in the new opening are. It represents their hearts which is a call to the name of the opening (Shinzou wo Sasageyo) - it means dedicate your heart. You see them say this phrase a lot in the show especially from people in the military like Erwin. So in the song it's basically showing them quite literally "dedicating their hearts to humanity."

I think you might be a little confused at the end when you discussed Sasha and her family. They just lived in a pretty remote area but still inside the walls. So Sasha's village was in the safe zone of wall Rose. The wall that originally fell was Maria that was where Eren was from in the pocket city of Shinganshina. When the wall fell everyone moved inward to Wall Rose. That is where Conny and Sasha's village was. So they did not live outside of the walls prior to this titan attack nor during. All this is happening within a wall that was supposed to still be intact. Sasha and her family just lived in the country and lived off the land more so.

I didn't notice if anyone else talked about it but when there was the flashback with Sasha, Krista, and Ymir, if you pay attention to Ymir's words, they are actually kind of kind, aha. It doesn't sound that way if you take it face value but she was mainly telling Sasha to be herself and F anyone who looks down on her for it. Man this episode brings back soo many memories of the first time I watched it, I always get choked up hearing Sasha’s “I’m home” and then we cut to Connie and his homecoming is just.. the complete opposite. The thing about Sasha makes a whole lotta sense when you think about it, the fact that she’s always hungry is cause there is never really enough food to go around for everyone. They get the bare minimum and somehow gotta still push on and fight for humanity. The characters are all interesting and it seems like we’re seeing more of them so it makes me very interested in seeing how you guys perceive this array of soldiers. Also, that titan at the end was pretty gnarly looking eh?

This is to answer what Oak said but it's actually for everyone. 1 - Season two, (at least the first few episodes) happens at the same time as the last episodes of season one, so there's no time jump, so it's pretty much the same line of story, season 2 feels different but 2- even though every season has its own episodes, they all have a continuation of numbers, this is episode 2 of season 2 but episode 27 of the whole. So, you can see it as a whole not like "we only have 10 episodes left" and I totally get your pov I'm just saying this to help you see it differently perhaps? either way I looooove your reviews. And like Mason said, "nothing is done for no reason" always keep that in mind!<3 Like someone else said, Mondays are my favorite, can't wait for next week!!

Love the reaction guys! But gotta echo some of the comments clarifying Mason's comment alluding to Sasha and her father living outside the wall: They were not living outside the wall. They are living inside Wall Rose (the middle of the 3 walls). That is why everyone is freaking out about the appearance of Titans since that would mean that there has been a breach and are racing to spread the word so people can evacuate to the very last wall - Wall Sina. Hence why Sasha was guiding one of the teams around the area close to her home. It has been clear that humans being outside the walls in Titan territory basically have little chance of survival. Recall that the Scout Regiment - the most experienced soldiers when it comes to battling Titans - go through about a 30% attrition rate during each expedition. Now imagine how regular folk would do with no ODM gear and no training.

To clarify, Sasha and her family did not live outside the walls with the titans. They live between wall Rose & Sina. When wall Maria fell in season 1, refugees from the people who lived between wall Maria and Rose fled to the land behind wall Rose. Which is why there was a huge problem with the lack of farmland and food. Humanity had lost ~1/3 of the land they could live on.

The outros are like the OVAs, they are not a necessary watch but it’s nice to watch them to appreciate the show more as a whole. With the outros in particular, they are generally more symbolic, so it’s fun to speculate what the meaning on the imagery is. But they are not requirements. So the guys shouldn’t watch it for the reasons you state, but because it would simply be cool. Hope I’m making sense, hard to explain without going into detail.

I am literally punching the air with the beat I get so excited from it! It scratches all the right places in my brain, It's my favorite! For me it's even above.. "That one".. You know which one!(And "that genre" of music is even my favorite music genre) Although THAT one is for sure in it's own special category. I think most intros takes some time to really get into cause you get used to and fall in love with the previous ones. But at the halfway point or the end of the seasons you really get to know them and fall in love with another one. I think they are all special in their own way. To me the story with Sasha feels relatable because she’s one of the “normal” scouts, unlike Annie or Mikasa or Eren. Just a country girl loves to eat and unsure of her place in the world (conversation with Christa and Ymir), but the courage she shows by saving the girl makes her a hero - to the girl she saved anyways

the episode's tittle is "i'm home" and the contrast between sasha being home compared to connie... they even start the episode with them 2 talking, incredible writing. the entire sasha flashback is one of my favorite dialogues in this season, i just love how this show is so reflective on human's behavior and mindset "everything in this show means something" yup!! from a silly random object to a 5 minute nonstop dialogue, if you miss something here then you're lost for a long time lol, i'm loving your discussions always, thanks for the reactions!

Well since almost everyone was basically floored when finding out things that relate to this intro later on and mind blown that they would give us that intro as early as season 2 I personally think it would be good if they watch it AT LEAST once and let them decide. For me it was one of the biggest "No way?! That's what that meant all this time?!" of the entire series. So I think it would be nice of us to give them the chance to get that same feeling like many of us had if they feel the same way when the time comes.

Yes and this is not a spoiler since its talked about in the mid episode information cards, but the metal is very special since it's very strong so it holds an edge well but still flexible enough to make it less likely to shatter. And still it gets TRASHED after using it on titans.. gives you even more perspective on how though the titans really are to take down!

My long ass comment is mostly to help you remember the order of all the walls and what's happened so far since it can be a bit much sometimes to keep track of.

SPOILER FREE: Just to give a little reminder cause it can be hard to remember especially since you don't have much time to read the mid episode information cards. The basement is not easy to get to since it's Erens home in Shiganshina which is one of the outer smaller walled in "outcrops" on the OUTSIDE of Wall Maria. And wall Maria is the outermost big wall.. And both Shiganshina and wall Maria was breached in season 1 and now apparently(as far as they can tell) the next wall, Wall Rose has been breached since now they are currently finding titans inside Wall Rose. And don't forget that the inside of Stohess District, which is an outcrop of wall Sina(the innermost wall where the king resides) was trashed by the fight between Eren and Annie AND there is a F**ing titan in the wall of Stohess District?? So the basement is not easy to get to at all and they are constantly trying to deal with every new crisis at the moment. The first excursion Eren and gang was a part of was to the inside of Wall Maria, so not outside of the walls of humanity and that excursion was supposed to be a "test run" even though it seemed like the higher ups knew more than they said and maybe it wasn't just a test run since it looked like they kind of planned to capture Annie(honestly don't remember right now if that ended up being true but is sure seemed sketchy at the time). Of course everyone want to get to the basement right now but it's so much in between them and it at the moment. I would really recommend you all to read the pictures of the mid episode information cards off screen together cause they can actually be important reminders and clarifications and also sometimes completely new information, like for example the one episode with the reeeeally long text that is impossible to read without pausing. Of course only read the ones that's been shown so far to not get any spoilers. This link takes you to a safe site with a collection of all the information cards in order. There are also tabs for every season to make it easier to avoid spoilers. Sasha was actually originally supposed to be killed off in this part but Isayama(the author of the manga) ended up changing his mind because his editor cried while reading the chapter and begged him to not kill her off. So thanks to that editor Sasha didn't end up being that small titan's meal and lived.

As usual, great reaction guys. Not sure if you guys read the comments before watching the next episodes. Nevertheless, I just wanted to correct one assumption you made which was that Sasha and her family were living outside the walls where the titans are roaming... it is still within the larger walls, just not where the main towns are, so there were no titans there even back before the first wall breach. This was mentioned in season 1 that each of the three main wall has little enclosements (one of this was shiganshina where Eren and his family are from). They serve as titan magnets (since it has many people living in a small space). This is so the brunt of the titans' attacks on the outside is focused on this small section and not the larger main wall which will then cut down on maintenance of the walls. Also means if there was ever a breach from the enclosements, there is less casualty and their advance can be stopped by closing the gate between the enclosement and the main wall it is attached to.

To answer Answer's question, the blades used in the ODM gear is made of steel that's mined and created in the factories of production villages - it's melted down and forged into the metal needed for the blades. It's specially made only for the military so metals like the one in the axe or anything else for civilian use wouldn't be as sharp/strong as the ODM blades and wouldn't fare against titan skin.

"Sashe, yer all I hoped for" still brings tears to my eyes. Idk why, probably some personal trauma relating to the want of being appreciated by a parent is my guess, but I just love how that one sentence can break me down that easily haha Not so fun fact: Sasha originally was supposed to die in this part of the story :') Isayama and his editor both were unsure about it and when Isayama rewrote it into what it is now, his editor loved the rework a lot more to the point where he jokingly said he wanted to cry.

Anime recommendations are extremely tricky for new people. There are SO many tropes that would be off-putting for most people. Both Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen have those tropes, so I don't think it would be good for them. Death Note on the other hand, sure.

I don't want to spoil anything, but we don't get to see the basement until mid-season 3. Also, I've noticed that the eyes in this show can tell you a lot about things and characters.

I would like to recommend some other anime series, shorter ones. Maybe at some point you want to delve deeper into the anime world. So you have to check out Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen or Death Note. These are some of the best.

Yeah as much as people want to reassure them over whatever concerns they have such as pacing or abandoned plotlines it's best to let the show do it's thing. Makes for great surprises whenever something major does end up happening or being answered which is what we're all here for

a little fun fact: the entirety of season 2 happens in a span of like 48h after the end of season 1

They don't need to watch all outros but they must watch THIS season's outro because it's once in a lifetime trippy sequence... Plus, they also have to watch EACH season's last episode to the ending credits for extra scenes so hey, they WILL inevitebly watch the ending songs after all.

They are just joking. The key being remembered in the opening shows that the writing is still on that and not letting it become a plot hole.

Please watch the whole Ending Song at least once for reaction! It's one of the most creepy ending credits that no other show has ever done! 🔥

I understand Oaks sentiment that the 2nd episode didn't continue the story in a linear way, but we kinda lost our only POV into the Beast Titan plotline after Mike died. There's nobody else around to attach a camera onto so to speak.

I think you should also watch the outros(that has lyrics) translated to English once per outro. AT LEAST the two outros for season 4! You can find them with English subtitles on youtube. I just love them so much and it hits on another level when you know the lyrics!

Also literal device used for this episode: man vs nature when Sasha’s dad talks about nature(titans) forcing people to come together and man vs self when Sasha decides to act heroic upon facing a titan all by herself
