EARLY ACCESS: Avatar The Last Airbender 1x5 FULL REACTION

YT Link: https://youtu.be/yOSJNQLzA4Q

In the fifth episode, the focus remains on character development, making it one of the most compelling installments yet. While Zuko and Iroh continue their ongoing spiritual journeys, the spotlight shifts to Aang, Katara, and Sokka, who embark on a profound exploration of the spirit realm. Their journey is triggered by the discovery of a devastated forest, a result of Fire Nation aggression.

The locals reveal unsettling occurrences since the forest's destruction, including mysterious disappearances and eerie phenomena. As Aang delves into the spirit realm to uncover the source of the disturbance, Katara and Sokka are reluctantly drawn into a battle with their deepest fears. Amidst the mystical encounters, Aang reunites with an old ally, while his companions navigate the fog of uncertainty, confronting inner demons along the way. Can't wait for the next episode.

Wait. The OG creators wanted to CHANGE the story more? What exactly did they want to change from the original? I'm pretty skeptical that Netflix wanted to be more accurate to the original story than the creators themselves.

Amy Petty

All I have to say is you can’t go in expecting this to be like the animation… if you do than your going to be disappointed. Also the OG creators wanted to change a lot more than what was changed and they left because Netflix wanted to stay more accurate so that’s the creative differences, plus they also got an offer to start their own avatar animation studio. Also onto Oaks note about why they didn’t do a 1-1 remake, because no one wanted that, we have the cartoon…. Plus they said this was goin to be their rendition of the show and not a remake of the animation

This helps me a lot, I can't tell how I would feel about it if i didn't see the anime first. I cant stop paying attention to the acting and different bonds.

Kalie Murray

On 2nd rewatch, I actually like this episode, maybe more so than episode 4. In any case, I understand why die hard fans of the OG would be so critical of this show, but really it's always hard to do a live adaptation of a cartoon/anime because there are just some things that can't translate well to a live action. Since I'm seeing this show with fresh eyes, I really love it. I just hope that die hard fans give it a chance and be happy that their favorite anime keeps on living on in different platform, or in any shape or form. If my favorite anime gets a really nice live action like this, I'd be so happy! My only other critique (other than Katara's actress wooden acting) is that I don't see much Appa scenes. I want more Appa scenes! He's soooo adorable! But I'm sure he's expensive to show lol.

Bunnie

So in that case it's worth waiting for the next season because they can finish the idea perfectly with characters like Wan Shi Tong etc. The only thing they have failed in this season is Bumi

Yea I Feel Episode Two Was Amazing And Nothing Has Topped It After That. The Last Episode Good But Idk

Eric Dontae

I Know I Said This Before But The Writers Said About A Year Ago That They're Not Necessarily Trying To Make A Remake But A Redo. Meaning They Are Trying New Things And Tell Different Sides of The Story We Never Seen. I'm Fine With That My Biggest Gripes Is The Casting. I Feel Katara And Azula Is Horrible I Wish They At Least Look Like The Character's But Overall Its A Good Show.

Eric Dontae

My answer to you Oak is that the original fans who went into it expecting beat for beat verbatim of the cartoon already knew deep down they would hate it. I'm an original fan and went in hoping they'd have just enough verbatim beats while retaining the spirit of the show, and that perspective has made me enjoy it quite well. This episode in particular.... definitely took the most liberties out of any episode in the show and is the majority least favorite. That being said, just wait for episode 6. It is incredible and i promise will change your mind on the series.

Scott Bringel

Yay can't wait for the next episode, it's my favorite! 😊

Exactly my thoughts, just cause they introduced something early doesn’t mean it can’t play out in future eps, I can definitely see them returning to the library and seeing the owl again. Although I thought this ep was the weakest, it’s ridiculous people are still expecting shot for shot, but I am excited to see how they change it up and keep it interesting!

Alexce

One time I gotta disagree with the oak, live action adaptations are never shot for shot to the source material so why would this one be any different? Seeing the owl in this episode does not mean we are not getting that library/appa stolen storyline.

Low

Come on oak, it’s called a live action adaptation, also the library episode is in season 2 so having a little introduction to a character shouldn’t be an issue now if he doesn’t appear in season 2 you can have your gripe. Fingers crossed you still watch the last 3 episodes with a smile on your face. I also think because you haven’t binged the series you are allowing the negative comments to sway you as you have gone from I like the little changes to forget the series it needs to be scene for scene.

Wattyone1

I still think the owl and the library will be in Season 2. We just got introduced sooner since maybe they didnt know they got a season 2.

Slow Shadow

I see both sides of it, but my bias makes me lean more toward Oak’s feelings. I will say that I enjoyed this episode much more than the last, I hated what they did with Bumi. I just don’t like that they’re bringing in so much from later seasons now. But like Answer said they didn’t know if they’d get more seasons so…it’s a tough situation. Either way I love watching with you guys!

Kel

Can’t wait for yall to watch invincible

Marquis keel

Honestly shoutout to whoever animated Koh because while I was afraid of the cartoon version as a child this new version definitely managed to make me scared of him again as an adult

Lis

Oh how I can't wait to see the reaction next week to 1x6... I have a picture of the reaction in my head already... Definitely 4 and 5 are rough watches if you hold the original in high regard. I thought 5 was rougher than 4, as 4 flowed together so well. 4 is an episode that gets better on rewatching, whereas here in 5 it felt more like a clip show then a coherent storyline, despite being some character building. This is probably the episode I would skip on rewatching. However, I have seen reviews from people new to ATLA who really enjoy this episode. So I think it is that sense of being jarred around in the story that really is to the detriment of the series.

Jordan

Oh, last thing— If you cast Daniel Dae Kim as the Fire Lord, are you really gonna hide his face? Come on, yall 🤣🤣🤣

JessTellsTales

Interesting! I kind of had the opposite experience of Oak here. For me, this was the episode that made me like the live-action series. It was losing me up until this point, and I really appreciated some of the things they added and altered here to give more depth. I think something to keep in mind here is that things that work well in animated form don't always translate well to live action— we saw that with Boomy. I feel like they tried to keep his character and appearance mostly intact and it came across a little cheesy at times. Certain things just worked well because of the medium of animation and the voice actors' performances. I think it's really easy to point out ways this is different from the show, but different doesn't have to mean bad. For me, the new scenes here added depth to things that were only mentioned in the animation and even added depth to certain characters.

JessTellsTales

There can’t really be line for line shot for shot. There are things that work In a cartoon that just can’t or won’t work for live action. If anyone is expecting that they might as well just watch the cartoon. There are some lines and scenes that would just be silly live action. It’s ok in cartoon because cartoons are ridiculous and silly it’s widely accepted more in cartoon form. Plus it would just be way too expensive to do everything scene live action. It’s just a different way of telling the story. I think introducing Azula and her backstory is cool. It shows how she got the was in season 2 and how she developed her blue flame. if you notice there was blue flames when she attacked the guy at the end also she’s practicing all night trying to be perfect. As far as the owl idk why he was there. He can still be in season 2 they can bring him back. The creators actually wanted to deviate even more from the original source material Netflix wanted to make it more faithful to it. The creators don’t like making the same thing twice which is why Korra was completely the opposite of Aang. Plus they did have a hand in making the live action movie. All in all I like a lot of the changes made others yeah could have been done better and need improvement. From what I hear the scriptwriters are really taking the feedback seriously and working to improve season 2 and 3. I think its solid overall.

Raquel Perodin

100% Agree with Oak's thoughts on it. I feel the same way as his. First watch was decent, but once the newness wore off, i have a more sour taste in my mouth.

James Ventola

Would you guys consider reacting to the new inside out 2 trailer?

Raquel Perodin

Speaking of 'Spirited Away' you guys should definitely check out the Studio Ghibli movies!
