One thing I realized after rewatching is that, yes, the survey Corp has a reputation for soldiers KIA, however recruits before had no idea what it was like actually fighting Titans. Because of the attack at Trost, cadets got a taste of what they’d be up against outside the walls. This probably led to way less recruits than normal into the military. If you didn't make the military police or the garrison, you were guaranteed a life of horror lol I don't blame any of the cadets for quitting. It makes the scene of our team standing in terror of their decision to join the Survey Corps that much more chilling.

Hey guys, I joined your patreon about a month ago and I'm really enjoying your AoT reactions and commentaries. I first discovered you on YT doing RDR2 playthroughs. About the facial expression of AoT characters, I'd like to point out that these are screen adaptation from the manga so the animators did a good job at animating what the author/mangaka wanted to show emotion and expression-wise. Another anime I would recommend is Parasyte Maxim. It's one of those animes that have incredible plot progression and adult themed even though like in Aot, the characters are teenage.. and it's only 24 episodes if I remember correctly.

The French pronunciation of "Jean" does not sound like John imo. As a French person, the "-ean" sound is pretty unique and isn’t really found in English, Jean would be pronounced /ʒɑ̃/ in French while John would be pronounced /dʒɑːn/ (or /dʒɒn/ depending on where you live) in English. I would say the Japanese pronunciation of Jean is a mix between the French and English one. Sorry just wanted to rant about phonetics lmao

Season 1 has this weird lull for a bit where you are now. Its a lot of story like you guys are noticing. It will go 100 miles an hour at spurts then give you a small breaks to gather info.

There is nothing wrong preferring one format over the other, and it’s already been decided they will continue with subs. Besides, it’s better for them to get used to subs if they want to continue reacting to anime since only a handful have good dubs.

When I watch along with them I watch the dub. I prefer that but it doesn’t affect me at all for them to watch sub. Watch what you want to watch, let them watch what they want to. It doesn’t change the reaction and it doesn’t affect what you watch in any way.

The whole Candy Omega thing is so hilarious to me, since the beginning of the Opening (the second Opening as well) is in German. So as a native with german as my first language it seems even more silly to me 😂 so I'm honestly not 100% sure what they say, either "Sie sind das essen und wir sind die Jäger" which would translate to "They are the food and we are the hunters". That's what I always hear anyways. But most lyrics online say "Seid ihr das Essen? Nein, wir sind die Jäger" = "Are you guys the food? No, we are the hunters!" which doesn't make that much sense to me 🤷 also btw Jäger means Hunter. And most of the names in AoT are also german (Eren and Mikasa are not). Petra was a really popular female Name in my Mom's generation - including her I know 4 Petras around her age 😀

As you guys watch more anime you'll notice the use of "san", "kun", "chan" (etc) like that. It's not part of the characters actual name its a suffix like Mr. or Mrs.. It's also a sign of respect to said person. So "Hanji-san" is just a more respectful way of saying Hanji

When people who don't watch anime watch AOT, they don't see anime. What they see is an entity of a show. This is how anyone who hasn't watched any anime gets hooked in, everyone's presumptions about anime gets instantly thrown out the window starting from Episode 1.

As always love your reactions! I'm glad yall are enjoying it and I PROMISE you it's only going to get better. This is the type of show where each detail, literally EACH detail, has a meaning and will get explained. I started watching this show when I was about 10 and finished it recently after I hit 18. THroughout the years I've rewatched it with my parents and friends and every single time, hell even just recently, I find yet another foreshadowing that makes me feel goosebumps. I truly believe that it is one of the best pieces of media out there. The plot will get progressively more complex so feel free to overanalyze as it might eventually pay off. From the openings to endings ( intro and outro music) to each frame, the background, everything is on point. Isayama (the author of the manga) is a genius and I still can't wrap my head around how he managed to craft this work. Especially, since it is his FIRST work ever. Truly incredible. Anyway ,the next arc is the best part of season 1, at least for me. So I can't wait to see the next reactions.

This episode was so somber, but I think it fits the theme perfectly of that waiting time before heading off to war. It's not a happy time, even though we're reuniting with friends, because we're about to embark on a journey that means death.

AOT is far from having the best dub after death note (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a lot better for example). AOT’s dub is great in some aspects but Eren’s voice / screeches and some other characters voices are horrible to hear.

Regarding Aot viewing: Attack on Titan also includes 8 special episodes called OVAs (Original Video Animation) that provide extra content on characters or worldbuilding. Most of them are optional, while others are highly recommended. These are: A choice with no regrets part 1 and 2(Levi’s backstory/origin story) and Ilses Notebook. Edit: You could start watching No regrets and Ilses Notebook right after the first episode of season 2.
