Chernobyl ends like it begins; with a beautifully written episode and a shocking, humbling reminder of just how devastating this disaster was. Chernobyl doesnβt need big, expensive CGI to get its message across, nor does it need action peppered throughout its five episodes.
The prolonged emphasis on detailing the events leading to the explosion, accompanied by untranslated Russian explanation placards, provides crucial elements to complete the "Chernobyl" puzzle. In a departure from the typical stirring courtroom monologue, Legasov conveys these details in a speech imbued with a distinct sense of sacrifice. His testimony is not an expression of pride but rather a relinquishment of the hope to live through his terminal diagnosis, choosing instead to offer a more precise understanding of the nature of the country's RBMK reactors.
