Being a more faithful adaptation doesn't automatically make something good. Stephen King made a more "faithful" adaptation of The Shining, but no one cares for it. The Kubrick adaptation still reigns supreme. In the case of Charlie, clearly the "faithfulness" didn't matter, because Tim Burton's direction and Depp's portrayal of Wonka left the story without the charm of the 1971 version. Had the Percy Jackson movies had any charm to them, their changes would've likely been better received by book readers and audiences in general.

No, Thank god. Those movies were an adaptation train-wreck. They were barely even the same plot as the books. The author adamantly communicated with the creators of the movie to advocate for changes because he knew the movies would tank if not….and they did flop just as the author expected. The show is so much better and more true tot he books with extreme heavy handed involvement from the author. So excited for these guys to see the show.
