Gen V Episode 8 finally brings the first season to an end and gives us a fascinating insight into how the series might continue. After taking out Indira in the previous episode, Cate finds herself cornered, as law enforcement will inevitably come after her. She decides to free the supes to gain some advantage. Sam supports her in her endeavour, given his hatred for humans who tortured him for years. In doing this, he neglects Emma’s desires and also hurts her in the process.
The episode also sees the appearance of Ashley, and you’ll face some cognitive dissonance having to accept that in this scenario she is innocent, while combating the image created in ‘The Boys’. The episode also features Homelander and his part in the episode is only for a couple of minutes, but it also enforces the direction the show will head in.

As stated in an earlier comment, JDM's relationship with Kripke has been long standing since his showrunner days for Supernatural. Its the same reason Jensen Ackles who played Dean is also on the Boys. Kripke has been trying to find a role for him before season 3. He just couldn't make it work with scheduling with JDM. Jeff also did some BTS show for the Boys for a time as well. JDM is a huge fan of the Boys. For the record, JDM does not seem to play Negan in every role. LOL! He's had a remarkable career and now has three iconic roles to date: Denny from Greys's Anatomy; John Winchester from Supernatural and now Negan from the Walking Dead. Fun fact he credits his breakthrough success to Shonda Rhimes, showrunner on Greys. Without her taking a chance on him for that part, none of what we love about JDM as an actor would exist. I am looking forward to see if this role will be iconic as well.

If you don't want to wait for more boys content, I gotta recommend The Diabolical animated series, its 8 episodes with the longest one being 15 mins. Its very fun and just expands the world of The Boys even more!

Anyway, yes, Eric Kripke (showrunner/EP) cast JDM almost 20 years ago to be John Winchester on Supernatural and they've been friends ever since. Also, there was a "post show" series on Amazon during season 2 (I think) that JDM was a frequent guest on. Really, the sheer number of Supernatural Easter eggs on these shows is hilarious. The trunk shot, "Robert Singer" and Jim Beaver, Jensen Ackles, JDM, Rob Benedict, Gattlin Griffith (Jesse the Anti-Christ/Gunpowder), Maddie Phillips, Alex Calvert (though the last 2 were not in the Kripke era). Even Baby shows up in season 2 to run over Stormfront!
