@Marco DBZ in japanese is probably one of the finest pieces of VA work I've ever heard in my life, and I say this as someone who watched a lot of DBZ as a child in my native language. Let's put Goku aside for a moment, the expression and life the japanese are able to give to these sometimes dramatic moments is utter genius and is perfectly well represented by their ability to scream. I urge you to watch the DBZ characters scream in japanse, they're some of the rawest screams I've heard in my life with amazing depth covering a surprisingly wide array of emotions. I do understand where you're coming from with Goku's voice, at first it feels very weird, but it's just a matter of letting go and accepting and after a while it will be the most natural thing, because that's just how talented his VA is. Anime in it's exagerated style of expression is perfectly suited for japanese VAs, english as a language just comes off as corny, and it's not just a matter of not understanding japanese and thus it comes off better, no I don't think so. The expression that japanese allows for is just suited for these equally expressive visuals and both absurd and dramatic scenes and storylines. English isn't appropriate for this. All languages have their bias in expressivity.

Oh god I hope they never do that. It's already a nightmare trying to sync up to the weird Hulu version because I'm watching on a different platform, I think I'd have to throw in the towel at that point. These guys take notes and have a pretty great discussion after each episode so I'd imagine they never would

@Marco The most hyped dub afaik is FMAB and its the only one I actually prefer, and on a different channel they did a poll of which to watch and it got cooked like 65-35 so definitely not a silent majority of dub fans lol. It is a large chunk of the fans tho and so it is a fair dicussion imo

I understand what you’re saying about Goku because I was the same way when I first heard Goku in sub, but it’s also because dub is the only way I would watch it when I was a kid, dub DragonBall Z, at least I wouldn’t watch it Sub because it was weird to me. But with this show, it’s completely different because I started this show on sub, now older it made me appreciate it more because Sub is the original way to watch it. Not saying Dub is bad, but I couldn’t sit through watching it Dub because I got used to watching it subbed. Trust me I’ve seen clips in English and some of the I would say “roars” are so much better subbed.

Yeah pretty much. I will always argue avidly against subs because I've always found Japanese voice acting to be subpar and most of the time it never accurately works for the character that it belongs to. The classic example is adult Goku sounding like a 10 year old chain smoker hopped up on caffeine instead of just a regular adult man. I mean Armin's voice in Japanese sounds like a little girl. That's just weird. I don't blame the crew for watching what they think people will most prefer. I understand I'm in the minority, or at least the silent majority. The people that watch dubs will just accept it because this is how it is, but I know that if they started watching it in dubbed then no shortage of weebs would be in the comments every week complaining about the dub and demanding that they go back.

Honestly, fantastic job on their part getting that Sasha's little beast mode was a gag that had been visually exaggerated. I see a lot of new-to-anime reactors that don't catch that at all. I just love to see these guys laugh at the well timed jokes - like Rainer and Eren getting flipped on his ass by Annie. It'll be interesting to see if they start having favourite characters soon or not - or if they can even choose. Never considered Jean a pretty boy, but it is so true. I guess it doesn't matter how many times I rewatch this show, I'll find something new every time!

Awesome reaction! Honestly I forgot how fast the story progresses in S1! I love hearing your comments about their type of training and Eren's raw determination. And your theories bring me back to 2013- I remember fans discussing all the same things. :) Really can't wait to see your reactions to the next few. And for those arguing for this- it wouldn't be easy or productive for them to skip or pause during episodes- It would screw up everyone's syncing. I subbed to another reactor that did that and it was a nightmare. They should be fine watching the openings (or just letting them play) and we can paste anything here from the info screens. I do see people already nearly spoiling stuff like you said lol. I think a moderator would be a great idea!

Being able to laugh along with you guys over Sasha, and just seeing how you react to some of my other favorites is everything I’ve wanted. The Answer calling Jean “pretty boy” is the best thing I’ve heard. 😂 So so true. The Colossal Titan appeared out of thin-air in the first episode, and not sure if you missed it but there was a flash of yellow lightning then the crackle before the titan appeared. Then kicked a hole in the wall, exactly how it all happened in the first episode. And remember, this show has so much story to tell snd this is only the tip of the iceberg so get ready to be left on cliff-hangers and trust you’ll get answers eventually just not right away. So much happens in 4 seasons you guys won’t believe.

I love the Answer's outburst at the "to be continued." I agree man, I agree. I think this episode is the turning point where I like Erin because he was too bratty in the last few episodes. But he redeemed himself by retaking control and giving orders to get everyone back in line. It's easy for everyone to forget their training out of fear, and most of them did. And props to my girl Sasha for saving her teammate's life. Her precision is on point and her instincts are top notch. This is their first day in the field and from what we saw, their training focused on attacking the Titans not worst case scenarios outside of that. I can't wait to see what more Sasha can do!

First off, Eren's spin-landing on the top of the wall, and his hatred-filled gaze as he look up, is one of my absolute favourite shots in the whole show. It gives me chills every time. Secondly. Two extremely impressive things happened here in the end. Eren AND Sasha just showed strength of character by how fast they reacted and jumped into gear. If not for Sasha, Samuel would be DEAD, paste-on-the-pavement-level dead. She literally nose-dived towards the ground, ran DOWN along the wall, and caught him with extreme precision. Eren was shocked, as was everyone, but he was fast to remind them of their duty and then LEAD. He isn't just a mouthful telling everyone to go do something and running off to safety or lagging behind. He is frontline soldier, taking charge and showing a lot of responsibility. I've always found this scene incredibly powerful on a character level. I think this is the episode where Eren really became my favourite character of the show.

people's frustration for seeing 'to be contiued' always makes me laugh. Hulu's subtitles are so wrong lol. I never seen Levi's and Erwin's names be translated to that before. I would recommend using crunchyroll for all anime going forward. Their platform is considered the official and best for correctly translated subtitles. So excited for next week!!!!!

You're the one who put this the most eloquently. Dub is not easier for me because either way I have to put it through an inner translator - whether I'm listening or reading. I mentioned in another comment that Subtitles is a skill you need to practice as much as anything else, because I've grown up with Subtitles on all the American TV, I naturally gravitate towards original language with very few exceptions.

1. You can rewatch the moment: it's very shortly but clearly shown that the big titan just kinda appears. Also you can rewatch the moment from the first episode, there was too a yellow lightning, noise and then the titan appeared. So this is kinda a pattern. It's weird, but if you think about it - the idea of 50+ meters tall skinless humanoid is also weird ;) 2. Yes, it was shown in the first episode, that the big titan punches the walls and makes holes. 3. Great reaction, guys! Enjoyed every second.

Hey guys, looking forward to next week and have really been enjoying the reactions so far. With regards to your concerns towards watching/skipping the opening. There's an argument for each option. 1 being to skip it in order to avoid spoilers, which is a valid thing, but the argument to watch it is probably similar as to why you are watching the sub, which is to consume this content the way it was originally provided to people. The opening is part of the show and I definitely think they should be watched, but if you think that the potential spoilers from the opening will take away from your enjoyment, then skip them and come back to them once the opening changes (from what I remember there are multiple different openings per season). Frankly I'll always argue for watching the Dub, simply because it is translated into a language that I speak and understand and it is far easier for me to pick up on subtle changes in how things are said and I won't be taken out of viewing by reading subtitles, but that is just my reasoning for why I typically enjoy the Dubs. I have no intention of not watching or dictating how people prefer to enjoy their shows. Really looking forward to the upcoming weeks, you guys really picked a banger of an anime to start with.

I'll just repost this: On my version of Hulu's subtitles, some of the character names are translated incorrectly. Not sure if it is the same for you but it is supposed to be Jean not John, Erwin not Elvin, and Levi not Rivaille.

Its insane how little I care about sub vs dub, both works, but the worst part is that there is no way to win, if you go for one, the supporters of the others will still whine every opportunity they get.

you guys should definitely start watching the episodes on Crunchyroll the translation is actually correct and if you decide to watch another anime they have a much larger selection then Hulu and Netflix combined I think it would definitely benefit you in the future.

I will say get used to cliffhangers. It is a very common thing in anime. Also, if you guys can, please switch to watching it on Crunchy Roll. It has a much more accurate translation. It's a great video; I can't wait to see it next week!

That's why I only made it halfwayish through season 2. I didn't want it to end and have a habit of abandoning a show because of that reason. I can't remember how quickly s3 was announced but since it was like 4 years between s1 and s2, I was prepared for a long wait then never returned. 😂🤣

for the hulu vs crunchyroll translation thing, crunchyroll does have the better and correct translation. it's a whole other service to get though, i guess it's just logistics about whether you all want to do that.

But remember all of us who watched the show when it came out, one episode per week! and the worst thing, waiting years for the next season! Honestly, that was so much worse, the anxiety of that "to be continue" :')

Sometimes there will have to be 3 episodes together because as you can see sometimes they cut the episode in the middle of the action, the fandom will tell you when there have to be 3 episodes in a row.

If you think TWD has some tough cliff hangers, this show might top it haha. Great stuff guys

I'm pretty sure with the amount of development you'll get and the frustration to have to wait another week for the next two episodes, it might be wise to do four episodes a week :p (oh and we'd love that too).

I think 2 each week is fine, it's good ending points as far as I remember., if they keep this up. I think the reactions are worth the wait too.

Also to your point about the titan just appearing, just think about how it was able to appear in the first episode as well. There was also no warning.

Its always good to watch opening at lesst 4 times, then skip it. But you can also watch it because its a banger

I only took one beginner’s Japanese course, the “L” sounds like “r”. So I can understand where the misinterpretation comes from.

If anything, I would go with 3. But based on comments from other channels, doing more than 2 is very time consuming for the editing and making sure it doesnt get struck down by Youtube. Obviously I dont know how the guys do things behind the scenes, but we should consider these things.

the reason no-one saw it was just like in episode 1, it just appeared there instantly. I would definitely recommend switching to Crunchyroll since it has the correct names and better translation.
