EARLY ACCESS: The Impossible FULL REACTION

This left a profound impact on us. This emotionally charged film vividly retells the true story of the Bennett family's survival in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Brilliantly portrayed by Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and their three sons, the Bennett family's holiday in Thailand turns into a nightmarish ordeal when the tsunami strikes, unleashing chaos and devastation. The disaster scenes are visually staggering, capturing the sheer force and horror of the event.

Naomi Watts delivers a powerhouse performance as Maria, a mother desperately trying to reunite with her family amid the chaos, while Ewan McGregor, as her husband Henry, compellingly depicts the anguish of a father searching for his loved ones. The inclusion of a young Tom Holland adds to the film's stellar cast and crew, who deliver a fantastic collective performance.

The film doesn't shy away from the grim realities of the aftermath, showcasing the resilience, compassion, and selflessness of strangers coming together in the face of tragedy. The cinematography captures the breathtaking landscapes and the devastating aftermath, creating a visually immersive experience.

Composer Fernando Velázquez's evocative score complements the emotional depth of the story, adding a poignant layer to the film. The sound design is particularly effective, immersing the audience in the chaos and confusion of the tsunami's aftermath.

While "The Impossible" is undeniably intense and emotionally charged, it also serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the bonds that hold families together. It's a powerful and thought-provoking cinematic experience that lingers in the mind well after we watched it. We would highly recommend watching this if you haven't.

Yeah I have had that unfortunately with this movie :(((

Angeldanger145

Is there something wrong with the sync? Every time I watch something that's watch along you guys always end up behind what I'm on. I'll even pause it and let you guys run ahead of me, press play and within 5 mins my version is back to being ahead. I'm using Netflix at normal playback speed so I'm confused. It happened with gen V and Chernobyl too

ChloeReynolds

I doubt it will win a poll anytime soon. It is number 1 on netflix in many countries, but it is new, and English speakers have not gotten around to it that much yet, because the movie is in Spanish. However, nominated for 2 oscars, and its becoming bigger by the day

Oriana Lo Presti

It lost the February poll. But it is on the list.

Badd Medicine

I literally came here only to see if there was a reaction to Society of the Snow. I'm hoping they do it also.

Elizabeth

Not a remake at all

Oriana Lo Presti

this was an amazing movie! you should react to Society of the snow

Elvira Heredia

This movie is really close to my heart. My island was also affected by the 2004 tsunami. Waves reached upto 3/4 of the entire island. Disclaimer: this might be boring and long as its the middle of the night and i am feeling sentimental. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! We lived near the beach, my mom was with the neighbours when she first noticed the sea "bubbling" and since they hve never seen it do that before, they went to get a closer look. Me (12 y/o) n my little brothers (4 and 5) were watchng tv at home. Whn tht first initial wave hit, my mom ran to us yelling loudly, i left my brothers inside the room (Asian here, since we were all so little, we all slept in one room together) n came out to inspect. My mom immediately pulled me inside the house, closed the front door, the 1st wave had reached us at that point. I ran to close the back door facing the beach, i saw the second wave break the outer wall surrounding our house. N then nothing. I remember being underwater n jst going in circles n then my mom pulling me upto surface. Water level had reached the ceiling at one point. N then minutes later it came down a little bit n mom was able to hold onto the knob of our room door with hand n me with the other. Thr was a moment, a second when my heart dropped realizing i didnt knw whr my brothers were n then the room door broke n me n mom got sucked into the room. We had terrible cuts on arms from that. We surfaced n saw tht both my brothers were safe n on top of the bigger bed. We had 2 beds, one normal western type, the bigger one was traditional type with a woven net. When the second wave hit, they both had immediately climbed onto the beds. Bt the western bed started sinking with my youngest brother on it. The other brother grabbed him by the neck of his shirt n lifted him onto the traditional bed (idk from whr his little self got that courage or strength). It had them old big suitcases under it making the bed into a raft of sorts. N they stayed huddled on there until me n mom got sucked into the room. We were stucked inside the house for a little while, neighbours came to rescue us after hearng our cries. I am so grateful to my mom, she was so brave. She didnt knw to swim, yet she saved me. N my little brothers, bless their little hearts.

When I watch this movie I think of my cousin who is similar in age to Daniel. I think oaks son is in a similar age to Daniel as well.

Christina

This isn’t a remake of the movie Alive, rather a re-telling of the survivors story. I watched Alive as well but this movie in my opinion was more superior. Some of the survivors cameo in this film, they gave their approval before the film was finished and the survivors spent time with the actors playing them so that they could give the most accurate representation. So for me that made it more impactful :)

mariana asturias

There is another version of the film called Alive (1993). It was very well done. And it was made in English. The director was Frank Marshall who also produced the Indiana Jones, Bourne and Back to the Future franchises. He’s one of the few EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). I highly recommend the film.

Juley

It is actually a remake of the movie Alive (1993). It was also very well done and worth watching. It was released with a companion documentary called Alive: 20 Years Later with documentary footage of the rescue and interviews with the survivors.

Juley

I also hope they watch it but nobody voted for it in the poll

Oriana Lo Presti

Unfortunately they did a poll and literally nobody selected this movie

Oriana Lo Presti

YES. I came hero to say you need to watch society of snow but I'm glad everyone else is already telling you lol

Oriana Lo Presti

I think you guys need to watch society of the snow on Netflix. Literally just watched it yesterday and I’m blown away. It has the same director as this movie as well. It’s about an Uruguayan plan crash in the Andes for 71 days. It’s a true story, it’s in Spanish but it’s amazing, it deserves a lot of praise imo

Agustin Aguado

hi guys! i would highly recommend you also watch the movie Society of the Snow by the same director of this movie The Impossible J. A. Bayona (it is on netflix) It is another true story of the Uruguayan rugby team of young 18-26 year old boys who were on a plane in 1972 traveling to Chile for a rugby tournament when their plane crashes in the Andes mountains and they are stuck there for over 2 months...its an absolutely incredible true story of heroism and perseverance and the movie adaptation by Bayona is jaw dropping...many of the survivors worked with the director to bring the film to life and 3 of the survivors even make cameo's in the end of the movie...it's truly remarkable and i think you guys would love it.

jjsons

The director of this film, J. A. Bayona also directed a film that’s on Netflix called Society of the Snow. Fantastic movie! Based on the real survival story of the Uruguayan rugby team that survived the plane crash in the Andes in 1972. Would love to see y'all react to it, it was truly moving!!

mariana asturias

the real life belon family are true survivors and i love this movies portrayal of them via the bennet family. maria said that when her and her son lucas were holding onto that tree in the middle of the water they were sat in silence for what felt like forever until her son lucas broke the silence and said "im happy im here with you mommy" and even in the midst of the tragedy she describes at as one of the most beautiful moments of her life. im so happy the family survived and my heart goes out to all that lost their lives <3

Princess Mia

this movie has always hit close to home for me. my grandpa was there by the beach just a day before and something prompted him that very morning to go to the mountains and for days we didn’t hear from him thinking he had been lost in the tsunami but he finally called family thinking everyone knew he had gone to the mountains and that he was safe. for my family we got that luxury of a phone call - so many others didn’t and this movie tears me apart thinking of what could’ve been and what is for so many

Daya Green

hoping they watched this in preparation for bayona's latest on netflix, "la sociedad de la nieve" 👀

Angie H.

An incredible story. My condolences to those still grieving, the orphans, the permanently injured, the impoverished. They couldn't fly away to their happy ending.

Lena

Oak and I were on the very same boat. The film had my heart racing the entire time and the title is definitely fitting. How does one truly prepare for a disaster like this? It's truly unfathomable. And the loss and courage of everyone calls to my heart. Humans are so amazing and resilient. The cast was also phenomenal in portraying their characters. My heart goes out to everybody.

Jorreca

When will the YT CUT of this be released?

films2die4 Xoxo

I watched this film a couple of years ago, and though it was a great film and I was glad I watched it, I honestly had no intention of watching it again. I was crying right along with The Oak, definitely a film everyone should see at least once.

Rachel Saunders

Me & Oak are one in the same, I couldn't stop crying throughout the whole movie, as usual when I watch this one.

Samantha Blagec

love this movie so much and your reaction was really great! I was a mess when I watched this but I think it would be hard not to be for this one. I would love to see you all react to room if you haven't! I think you'd like it!

Kubochaan

yess he does. Im an empath so when I see people crying in reactions it just makes me cry more 😭💜 This was a tough watch but im glad I saw it.

Alyssa Dyson

This movie gets me every time. Another good ‘disaster’ film is Titanic, would love to see you guys react to it please!

Kate

I feel sorry that the guys had to go through this but I knew Oak will be crushed and that's why I love him so much he has big ❤️

Josip Buretić

Oh this scene gets me also every time

Josip Buretic

i think the scene that got me the most was when ewan was trying so hard to hold himself together to find his family and when he makes that phone call he just lets it all out

Elias

I thought they might shed a tear or two near the end, but I wasn't expecting them to be emotional throughout most of the film 🥺

Verity

Thank you so much for reacting to this movie! It’s an incredible film! I remember that day so clearly. A friend of mine had flown to India on Christmas Day to get married. I knew she was in a town on the coast where his family lived. The morning after Christmas when the tsunami hit, I was glued to CNN with my mother. Back then, news from other parts of the world came slowly. We didn’t have the same kind of mass use of social media. I don’t know why I thought of it, but I dug out my mother’s computer manual and dialed customer service. Sure enough, the wonderful man who answered was in India. He told me that he and his family were safe inland, but that the tsunami was really bad. I told him CNN said the death toll was up to 10,000. He said it was actually up to 40,000. He spent several hours on the phone with me as he tried to get info about the town where my friend was. Other operators were helping, too, even as they searched for news on their own families. Every update he gave me would come out on CNN about 2 hours later. He finally found out that the town where my friend was had less destruction and a low death toll. Despite the loss of those lives, I felt much better. We finally hung up. I didn’t get word of my friend for 4 days and the devastation on the news during those days was beyond belief. Her hotel was destroyed. She and her fiancé went inland to a town where some of relatives lived and got married. It was a beautiful ceremony (videotaped for all of their friends back in the U.S.). She had a neck injury and couldn’t speak, so her sister said her vows. My experience of the tsunami is nothing compared to the suffering of so many. But I will never forget the kindness of a customer service operator who spent hours on the phone helping a frantic stranger on the other side of the world while his country and a dozen others were suffering such devastation.

Juley

Yes!! I thought about that girl too, I think there was a little documentary on YouTube that I watched awhile back where she and her family were sharing their story.

Bri

I saw the poster for this week and didn't think I knew what this was. Just read the synopsis and saw the actors in the thumbnail and realized I have seen this movie and it was sooo good! Will definitely watch along today!

Bri

Oh Oak): virtual hugs. Seeing u bawled up like that makes me even more emotional than I already am throughout the show. Enjoyed rewatching this the 2nd time w/you guys.

Ashley H.N

Oh no you guys have Chernobyl next😭 another heavy hitter. I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Shrek on the list for this month. A nice breather from these heavy emotional films and shows lol.

Brianna

This movie is just as terrifying and disastrous as the first time I saw it. This was I believe the first time Tom Holland was a lead in any Hollywood movie, I could be wrong. These events always make me so thankful for things like Red Cross and people who helped in these events. There is a reason why we have Doctors Without Borders. Anyway I loved the video and this is an amazing movie

Abigail.M

🤣🤣🤣 good news, Oak is the only one out of the 4 that has seen Chernobyl. So at least he's got that going for him. 🤣🤣🤙🤙

Badd Medicine

I'm a mess as soon as this movie starts, for 2 hours I'm a wreck ugly crying & I hate movies that make me cry. I'd never have watched this again if you guys didn't react to it but it's an amazing movie. As #NotAMother, I can't even begin to fathom the amount of fear for not only for your life, but fighting for your children's lives, ugh it just tears me up and seeing oak cry made it worse. I have to go watch Rick and Morty or something now. Another great reaction guys❤️❤️

Dee

I was worried when I saw this movie come up because I was afraid it might actually break Oak, with his huge empathetic heart. I've seen this movie many times and each time feels like the first.

Kat M.

Yep this movie made me cry a lot...then saw Oak crying and cried more....this movie crushed my soul. 😭🥲💜

Alyssa Dyson

Have y’all the the Mist? I won’t say more in case you haven’t but please add it to the what I’m sure in a novel-in-length list lol

Lauren B

Ron. They have the full real time videos on YouTube. A lot of people filmed that day. A lot of first hand footage out there. I went down that rabbit hole a few yrs ago. This movie is almost scene for scene.

Sharpgirl

It was beautifully done! I read a couple of books written by some of the survivors and Bayona definitely did a wonderful job telling the story of everyone involved in the accident.

Paola

i was coming to comment the same thing, the director is amazing and Sociect of the Snow is a great movie!

Victoria Davis

You may be pleased to know that Lucas became a doctor and worked during Covid.

Krystal Doyle

I don't think I've ever seen Oak this emotional during a reaction. This movie is definitely more than a movie. It's a memorial and such an important story about real people and real triumph. So many people impacted in so many ways. God bless all those people who helped those in need in big and small ways!! This movie always restores my hope in humanity.

Adrianna Marie Aka AD

Just a phenomenal story through and through. Tbh never watched anything with Ewan, Naomi, or Tom before seeing this film. The emotional toll this took on me is insane. Couldn’t stop crying throughout the entire thing, it felt like I was actually part of this family.

Juliet

This movie is one of my favorites of all time, I do not get tired of watching it and crying every single time, I am glad you guys are doing it and got the same thoughts that a lot of us have on these type of situations. Many blessings 🙏🏽

Whitney Ulerio Duverna

I havent seen this yet but ive heard great things about it. Looking forward to watching it with you guys later!💜

Alyssa Dyson

Thank you so much for an excellent reaction guys. This movie brings out all the feels.

Chantelle Nelson

For Oak's sake can everyone start requesting some light comedies 😭😂

Verity

I can't wait to see the movie with you guys!! By the way, the director of this incredible film, J. A. Bayona, has just released a movie called Society of the Snow on Netflix. In my opinion it is just as incredible as this movie, it is also based on a tragic real event.

Paola

♥️♥️♥️

Tomasina Hill

It always gets me when, during the flood, Lucas deliberately lets go of the debris so he can go after his mother... 🥺

Verity

I was a kid when the tsunami happened, but I remember it being all over British news. The footage of devastation and people being swept away in the waters were just heartbreaking. There was a documentary where the survivors said the waters were so strong, it was “like being inside a washing machine”, which always stuck with me. Amazingly, there was a 10-year-old British girl called Tilly Smith who had recently studied tsunamis at school, and realised one was about to happen. Her parents didn’t believe her at first, but then alerted a security guard who started clearing the beach. Minutes later, the tsunami hit. She saved about 100 people.

Verity

I watched this movie so many times and still it gets me every time and I am so empty after watching it

Josip Buretić

Man...I remember reading somewhere the real family stated that the film was so realistic that the only inaccuracy they could spot was the color of the ball Tom Holland was playing with at the beginning. It was blue and not red.

Ron Banks

This is one of my favorite movies. It wrecks me every single time but good god is it a good film. The way this movie makes you feel is incomparable in my opinion.

Nya

Damn, i remember watching this in the cinema with my friends and i was only 15 and STILL shed a tear or two 😭

zimy__

One half of my brain: omg The Impossible, time to smash that play button! The other half of my brain: omg The Impossible, I need like a week to emotionally prepare for this.

Verity

LETS GOOOOO… get the tissues.

John F.

This is an amazing movie, I didn’t realize a reaction was coming!! I need to start actually reading the schedule lol. So excited to watch!!

Manny D.

Man oak is going to need a breather after this and what's coming on Sunday. He's going to be emotionally overwhelmed lol 😪

Ryan Bellefleur

Tom Holland’s best acting. Love this movie!

KP

Get the tissues 😢
