I really recommend you guys to rewatch the original series now, this film really gives so much more insight on Snow and his actions in the original series. Literally can never watch the original movies the same. Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth really did amazing with this role. So some fun facts, Mags from Catching Fire actually won the eleventh Hunger Games so she could've maybe known about Lucy Gray but unfortunately, she could not speak :/ Also the fact that one of Lucy Grays last words to Snow were "I'm going to get some Katniss" and her singing the Hanging Tree song. Then 64 years later, Katniss from district 12 starts the revolution and uses the Hanging Tree. Final fun fact, the Hanging Tree written by Lucy Gray tells of the events in Part 3. If you read the lyrics to the song and then notice the story beginning with a man being hung for the murder of 3, his love calling out to him, Billy Taupe trying to flee the districts and Lucy Gray finding out the truth about Coriolanus. The verse about Snow being the one that Plutarch changes to rally the districts.

There is a lot of theory that katniss father had ties to the covey! the lake they were at is the lake that katniss learned to swim with her father.

My thoughts: it's an amazing story & got me to root for Snow at many points. The characters are so well developed!! Agreed, too, that the music is awesome. But the cinematography (most of it brilliant) is over-the-top violent. In the original trilogy, none of the deaths are nearly as gory as they are in this one. It doesn't seem to fit. I hated seeing the kids' death in so much more brutal detail. My own thoughts. (When Answer mentioned Slim Shady....first thought in my head!) Thanks for the reaction!

There's a video of the director breaking down the arena fight scene, and he mentioned that the rubble and debris in the middle of the arena from the collapse of dome is what then goes on to inspire the cornucopia that we see in the original HG movies. I thought that was a nice detail!

Definitely read the book. Catching Fire used to be my favourite Hunger Games book until this one. I’m about to read it for the third time.

I did have to put my thoughts of Zegler to the back of my mind to watch this but i did think it was quite good overall, couple of small things i didnt like was the initial arena fight, yes the camera shots were good but i found the actual fighting, looked so choreographed and fake, second thing was the bow as i found it cheap takeaway from being a big katniss thing. Great reaction though

I dont think it needed to be a series, just 2 movies. I felt the book needed to be a duology as well. The time in 12 felt glossed over in the book a bit and the movie REALLY glosses over it. Maybe some more interactions with the resistance or something. The movie felt like it downplayed/cut out the relationship with Sejanus enough that it affects the impact of the betrayal. Their dynamic and interactions were more interesting to me in the book than with Lucy. It's a shame too, the actors, scoring, and cinematography were great.

Do you think it would have worked better as a mini-series, maybe?

If you're considering adding another musical to your watch list, Rachel Zegler got her big break when she was cast as Maria in Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story." It's probably blasphemous to say this, but I actually like Spielberg's better than the original. I saw Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in the theater, and I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to the source material, but I thought it was at least on-par with Catching Fire. I did find the turn at the cabin to be a little odd on first watch, but after seeing it again with you guys and listening to the discussion, it's making a bit more sense.

Would have been an amazing movie if they hadn't cut alot that I thought was pretty integral to plot and relationship building. The actual production value and acting was great.
