The heartbroken final look on dad’s face as he sees his son go back to his abuser for the sake of his art and his dream and wanting to be the best, even if it leads to a troubled life and early death is something that stays with you after the movie ends. And yet you feel so vindicated along with Andrew once he finally gets Fletcher’s approval. It’s just a fantastic movie

I think you can pinpoint halfway through the performance when Fletcher stopped trying to save face and was instead won over by Andrew's performance. As for the teaching method, I'm against it 100%. I don't think we should be telling people that they're ever good enough or that they can't improve, but I refuse to acknowledge that you can get good results by physically, mentally, and emotionally abusing people. I also see absolutely no point in this kind of ambition. What is there to gain in life by being one of the "greats"? Nobody's ever praising you until you're dead anyway, so what gains is there in you torturing yourself for such a paltry goal? Your fans won't be there on your deathbed to see you away. It always boils down to family. That is the ultimate pursuit in my opinion. There's nothing better.

He under went multiple surgeries to remove scar tissue over a course of like 4 years he said in an interview. But as a drummer, kinda works. I've known lots of drummers that accidentally themselves with sticks, sometimes sticks splinter and break and come back and hit you in the face, some drummers actually wear eye protection glasses when playing. Especially hard hitters.

I'm with Diamond Dave on this— I think Fletcher really meant to end Andrew's career with that last performance, to get him back for "snitching". I think he's really that petty. I don't think that part was meant as a test. You can see in Fletcher's face that he's genuinely surprised when Andrew comes back, and he's even annoyed by it. But as Andrew's genius shines through, he starts to win Fletcher over mid-performance. They both can't deny their love of the craft. In the end, Andrew turned out to be the genius Fletcher was searching for. Thanks for watching this!

I watched this with my brother when it first came out, he is a very talented drummer himself, he said the editing on this movie is outstanding, however, it is a little out of sync for the end performance. which i would have never picked up on. I would love to know what professional jazz drummers think of this movie.

I grew up in Indiana but have been here since 97 so I guess I've become spoiled 🤣🤣🤣 But you make an excellent point, that break from the heat is a welcome one! If it could stay above 60° I'd be MUCH happier! Though, I think we're supposed to hit 60 later today (I'm in Tampa) so it could end up being a hell of a day today! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 It's not raining, that alone is a plus right there.
