EARLY ACCESS: Hereditary FULL REACTION

Hereditary transcends the conventions of traditional horror, birthing a chilling symphony that resonates in the deepest recesses of the psyche. The film unfurls the tapestry of the Graham family's unraveling sanity, weaving a narrative so psychologically intense that it lingers long after the credits roll.

At the film's core is Toni Collette's unparalleled performance as Annie Graham. Her portrayal of a grieving mother navigating the treacherous waters of familial darkness is nothing short of fantastic. Toni Collette masterfully conveys the visceral horror of her character's journey, ensuring every emotional beat lands with harrowing precision. Shout out to Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne for their great performances as well.

Hereditary distinguishes itself with a deliberate pacing that borders on hypnotic. Ari Aster crafts an atmosphere of lingering dread, allowing tension to build like a pressure cooker. The slow burn erupts into moments of pure, unbridled terror, leaving audiences in a state of perpetual unease. Ari Aster employs meticulous detail and symbolism, creating an immersive experience that demands repeated viewings. From unnerving miniatures to nightmarish visions, every frame contributes to the film's haunting aesthetic.

The film's meticulous sound design forms a dissonant symphony that becomes a character itself. This auditory assault mirrors the psychological disintegration on screen, intensifying the film's impact on a primal level.

Ahhh "WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK"...made my day thank you

It wasn't our lights. It was the tv itself. We even tested a few things after. Plus we are far removed from this setup 😁🤙

Badd Medicine

y'all need to have a lighting setup SPECIFICALLY for horror!! so much of the anticipation is totally lost because no matter how bright your actual screen display is, those lights behind you are probably putting a glare over everything. considering that you guys do this professionally and everything, its kind of crazy this hasn't been noticed yet. even details in the lighter shots were getting missed, so it's definitely an issue. You should use this movie as a point of reference for some test shots in order to fix the issue permanently. It would improve everyone's experience exponentially since, yknow, the whole point of this subscription is to see those little reactions.

Ali

Hello. We have everything labeled in the tier, description of the videos, and in the beginning of the videos that these are watch along format. That's because of copyright laws. We can't legally show everything.

Badd Medicine

Hey guys. Thank you for the reaction. I'm a girl, and I live alone. I couldn't watch this by myself that's why I joined your Patreon to watch this together. cause I saw this on your Youtube felt interesting. But I would've very glad if you guys put the movie visible and made it bigger. Not everyone can afford two desktop, and play the movie at the exact same time. It's just an opinion of mine. but great reaction. Thanks! Keep going.

Vns Tsoom

See, the first time I saw this movie I made the mistake of watching it alone in the dark at like 2 in the morning. I was the only one awake in the house at the moment. This is easily my favorite A24 movie. And this is definitely my favorite of you guys' reactions. There are four or five scenes that have stuck with me and I was waiting to see your reactions to them. I was messed up for a few days after I saw this for the first time for sure.

SYNTRY 9169

Same here! This sh*t freaked me out WAY too much to watch the whole thing again!lol Oak did not disappoint in his reaction..... I laughed so damn hard at pretty much everything he said and did with this one! Hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Roxanne LIL CRIP Kemmerer

yep horror goes out the window when you have a kid XD this is like the last reaction im watching of this movie its too draining XD

Crispin

To view some of the amazing stuff yall missed, check vid out below. https://youtu.be/ADzUs3xhxcY?si=klu7lU-QcxDajteW

J Bird

I didn't see her in the corner, thank you!

Kalie Murray

SPOILERS: I cried the first time I saw the daughter's demise. I forgot most of the movie and now have a 3 month old and it was so much worse to see now. The acting is incredible, and I forgot majority of the film from the first time but now it's ingrained in me and I wish I didn't watch it a second time. I had to see the reaction though and loved it, thanks for your watch!

Kalie Murray

Oh no, I’m super bummed they missed all that! (Haven’t watched the reaction yet, just checking the comments because I was curious of what they thought!) This movie has legitimately reignited my fear of the dark from my childhood. I have a hard time letting myself look at dark corners at night because I keep remembering all the creepy figures lurking in the shadows in this movie!!!

Amanda Milholland

Yeah, maybe whenever they announce they're doing a horror film, we as a community should spam them with warnings about whether they'll need to turn the lights off or not xD

Verity

dave really said " is there a cool jumpscare ? " after missing the best jumpscare ever XD

Crispin

On my screen it was impossible not to see those things and the brightness setting on my monitor is not even at 50%. Maybe the studio lights pointed at them made it hard for them to see? Oh well, it's disappointing we didn't get a reaction from them on those parts, but what ya gonna do, right?

Danilo Carvalho

I know my soul left my body when I saw her up in the corner lol when he sits up in the bed

Crispin

Yeah, I was a little disappointed that they missed the creepiest parts (in my opinion) of the whole film. For me, those were the most "horror" parts. Though for Oak's sake, maybe it was for the best xD

Verity

As someone else mentioned, you guys didn't see any of the dark shots. Earlier in the movie the mom saw her dead mother standing in her workroom when she shut off the lights. I noticed you guys didn't see it at all. Another scene was near the end when Peter wakes up in bed, after the father burned, he sits up and in the top left corner his mom is crouched up in the ceiling. It's a pretty long scene and you guys didn't see her at all! 😆 Then when the angle changes the person you guys saw run behind him was actually still the mother and she was floating/running through the air. It's the creepiest moment in the movie so it sucks you guys didn't see it! Lol Not sure if it's the lighting in your room or maybe the lighting needs adjusted on the monitor/screen display. But hope that helps for future movies! Maybe replay the movie at that scene and see what needs adjustment. ❤️ I noticed you guys did see the mom a bit when Peter went downstairs and saw his dad and was standing by the fireplace because that scene had a little more light. There was a naked man standing in that doorway as well which seemed like it was hard for you guys to tell if it was his mom or not. Anyways, loved your reaction! This was a one-time watch for me but I always enjoy reactions because it's freaking wild. Lol

Sarah

😂🤜🤛

Badd Medicine

Waited over a year for this reaction and it was well worth every second of wait. The guys’ whiplash of emotions was priceless. 😂😂😂

Money-Kate Olsen

We rented it. YT Cut will come in couple of days. 🤙

Badd Medicine

will need to wait for youtube cut, this isnt free on my amazon prime

ElmSt Reactions

You guys should watch the first Saw (the 3 after are also pretty good but it’s pretty gory, and the rest of the movies are just dogshit) But if you don’t want to embark in the franchise, I really think the first one could be a really interesting watch, it was really more of a horror/thriller, than the gore fest that the other movies became

L AH

You guys should dim out the lights a bit when you’re watching movies, especially horror movies. You missed the scary shot of the mom up on the bedroom ceiling when Peter woke up, the naked man in the door smiling at Peter, the two naked women in the corner when Peter was in the attic … 😂 A truly disturbing yet amazing (?) movie about inter generational grief and trauma, I had trouble sleeping for days after watching this movie. Charlie death scene was just … 🥹🥹🥹

L AH

When Oak started gagging 🤣🤣 I only watched your reaction to this, not the movie along with yall because I cannot stand to watch it again 😭

Hayley K

This reaction was everything I hoped it would be. Loved how Oak went through an entire journey with his reaction and opinion of this movie lmao

Miles

The telephone pole part happened in real life, two guys driving both drunk one felt sick stuck his head out and ya...friend drove home and went to bed. didnt even know it happened till cops woke him up that morning

Victoria Davis

I think demonic/paranormal horror movies are corny and just not for me, but this one right here is still one of the most disturbing/ unsettling movies I've ever seen. The way it was shot, the acting, the story as it unfolds, just a crazy ass movie. Had a blast watching y'alls reaction to it

Jake Kez

Oh man I hated this movie lmao but it was a comfort to watch with y’all because y’all were on edge / as disturbed as I was. But yes, I totally agree. A “good” piece of cinema but hard to watch on multiple levels.

Angelina

I was indeed one of those people who saw this in theaters and trying to figure it out the entire time had me squirming. I agree that it is so dark and disturbing, I don't know why you'd ever want to watch it again, but therin lies the genius of this film. It is a masterclass in disturbance

Maggie Barbour

I think Oak hit the nail on the head and really echoed my sentiments perfectly. This movie isn't enjoyable, not by a long shot, and it shouldn't be. But it IS a good movie. I also think the movie is a 5/5 but the reason for that is because I think it does an excellent job at putting us in Peter's shoes. He's not blameless and without fault at all, but he was out through the wringer in this movie. In the book where we learn about Paimon, we see that he requires a vulnerable host in order to take over, and that he also prefers male hosts to female hosts. So throughout the whole movie, everything that happens serves to put Peter into more and more of a vulnerable state of mind. I think that even goes for the grandma dying. Even though he wasn't close to her, just being close to death like that is enough to leave someone vulnerable a bit. Throughout the movie we just feel more and more dread and depression which I think is incredible because that's what Peter is going though too. A comment on ya'lls setup but you might want to consider bumping the brightness up on the TV a bit. It worked out for Oak, but you missed some scary and creepy moments of people/spirits lurking in corners and crap like that because it seems like the TV is a little too dark. All in all though, I'm glad we're done with this one haha. I don't think I'll be watching it again but I was really looking forward to seeing what you guys thought. If you guys want to go back to some normal and tame horror instead of stuff Tha makes you sick to tour stomach, I highly recommend The Summer of '84 and Haunter. Both are really really incredible movies and I think you guys will love them.

Marco Gutierrez

To, that bird is awesome. I'm assuming it's real and not stuffed right?

Marco Gutierrez

1:48 you guys didn't see the body just clinging to the wall in the background like spider-man?? LOL

So basically, the Grandmother was the leader of a cult worshipping the demon Paimon She first tried to give her son as a body , but he commited suicide because she put Paimon inside him Then she wanted to do the same with Peter but Annie wouldn't let her close to him. But she managed to transfer Paimon to Charlie But Paimon needs a Male body and so "fights" with the body of Charlie (because as i understood Charlie became Paimon that's why she never cried, etc ...) So before the grandmother died they elaborated a plan with her cult to transfer Paimon from Charlie to Peter (Joanie being the next cult leader) And please the demon again Explaining the note at the beginning that it will be all worth it in the end (because Paimon gives knowledge, riches, etc ... )

Hugo Pontgelard

I'm not positive on all this but I do believe that Paimon was always in Charlie and she was always going to die because the intention was to transfer him into Peter because we know from the book that he preferred a male host. He would have been put into Peter from the beginning but remember Annie told the grief group that she kept her mother away from Peter but gave her access to Charlie after she was born. I also believe that Annie's mother had tried to put Paimon into Annie's brother and he killed himself before she could get it done. Remember that his suicide note accused his mother of trying to put people inside him.

Stephanie Bedworth

I love the discussion at the end about scoring, and also about how it's not enjoyable but still doesn't detract from how good it is. It reminds me that Film is an artform, and not all art is meant to be enjoyed. I feel like hereditary is the movie version of a Goya painting. Horrific, hard to look at, but spectacular all at the same time.

GillyBean

this happens with UK versions of movies/shows. and i think same in some of EU. basically our tv's run at a slightly different frame rate, so some distributors will speed up the video to match the framerate so you dont get a flickering effect. most streaming services now are all the same but physical media will still follow old practices. Amazon Prime rental worked fine for me.

GillyBean

as someone who has experienced death that close and kinda almost the same fcked up way this movie was awesome and scary as hell 9/10

MateoP

Amazon was one of the streams I tried.

Clueless Morgan

Amazing news ill wait then 🤝

calum1

That reaction will come for sure. Just not sure exactly when yet 🤙

Badd Medicine

I'd like to see this reaction too!

trunovelT

I think you guys missed her crouching in the corner of the bedroom ceiling xD I first watched this film at night, and that shot made it hard to sleep...

Verity

Will you guys be watching Oppenheimer by any chance thinking about watching it again but its 3 hours so if you guys are i will wait for the watch along

calum1

I also did have that same problem in the past with some movies but luckily this time I didn't get any problems and I have watch it on Amazon Prime(In Germany I don't know if that makes any difference)

Josip Buretić

this movie also has people in the corners an in the shadows that we only see when looking for them in the background, just like hill house

Carolina M

Yea sadly. I also tried different versions, even prime, and my copy is shorter.

JiaHailstorm

All i can say about this movie, is that it is one of the most disturbing, uncomfortable, upsetting, yet tremendous movies I have ever seen. All of the actors but especially Toni Collette were just brilliant they way she conveys that grief scene just shook me. I was shocked she was not nominated for her portrayal.

wild heart

Hooooo boy, LET'S GOOO

Verity

been waiting for this one all week!!

stephanie

Not for this one but have had that issue too and it’s annoying but I deal with it as best as I can. Sorry this happened to you :(

Victoria Davis

Oh, dear god, here we go.

Stephanie Bedworth

No matter which version I try bluray or two different streams. My version keeps running out of sync ( runs little bit faster than the watchalong and have to pause all the time to keep it somehow synced.. anyone else got this problem?

Clueless Morgan

💀 My dad took me to see this when it first came out. Had no clue what it was about going into it - never even watched the trailer or anything. I still remember freaking out when she was crawling along the ceiling and shit lmao.

Ailish

Oh guys I cannot wait to watch this reaction, but first I will check your "Usher" reaction

Josip Buretić

Oh this is going to be fun. Air Aster is fantastic. None of his movies are about real occult stuff, the made up hell kings and rituals are just furniture for a story about a family too cowardly to address any of their communication issues growing farther and farther apart. That's the real horror.
