EARLY ACCESS: The Fall of the House of Usher 1x2 FULL REACTION

This is the 2nd episode and it was "raining" down (haha sorry, had to do it) some awesome storytelling and it didn't disappoint. In this episode, the primary focus is on the tragic death of Prospero, Roderick's son. This event serves as a central theme, highlighting the theme of mental deterioration and the struggle between sanity and insanity that runs throughout the series.

We also get insights into Roderick's past, including his previous marriage to Annabel, his introduction to Ligodone, a drug proposed by Rufus, and his subsequent marriage to Juno. There's a revelation that Roderick asked his daughter Victorine to create a cardiac meshing device, potentially to aid in his own recovery from a medical condition.

Throughout the episode, the battle between sanity and insanity is a recurring theme. Roderick's hallucinations and mental decline, attributed to a medical condition, are central to this struggle. Additionally, it's revealed that Prospero, too, suffered from a form of insanity, possibly experiencing his own hallucinations.

The supernatural also plays a significant role, blurring the lines between the real and the unreal. There are moments that leave us questioning whether they witnessed a supernatural event or a hallucination. For instance, Prospero briefly sees a mysterious woman in red on the roof, raising doubts about the nature of the phenomenon.

The use of sound, particularly the rhythmic beeping of a pacemaker during Victorine's efforts to save a chimpanzee, adds an eerie and unsettling dimension to the episode. Visually, the episode is striking. The fleeting yet impactful images, like the woman on the roof and Roderick's hallucination of a burnt figure, leave a lasting impression, contributing to the overall unsettling atmosphere of the series.

Ever? Bit harsh LOL. It packed an emotional punch. My only complaint was the lighting was dark as shit. I like how colourful and vivid Usher is by comparison.

Hill House is the second from last from me, definitely the most overrated show ever.

I didn't think Flanagan could top Hill House, but for me this show was more fast-paced and fun. It managed to strike a balance between Flanagan's signature long monologues (something which I thought Midnight Mass had too much of) and thrilling horror - it felt well-structured and purposeful. The whole cast really nailed it, especially Bruce Greenwood and Carla Gugino. I'd rate the show a solid 9/10.

Verity

Your faces and reactions during the conversation between Prospero and Morelle, when he invited her to the party, were priceless. 🤣
