EARLY ACCESS: Brave FULL REACTION

Pixar's Brave takes a departure from their usual tales of talking toys and lovable monsters to deliver a heartfelt story of bravery, self-discovery, and the bonds between mother and daughter.  A visually stunning animation for Scottish Highlands, where tradition meets a young princess's fierce determination to carve her own destiny.

Set in the rugged landscapes of ancient Scotland, the film introduces us to Princess Merida, an adventurous and headstrong archer. Her fiery spirit clashes with the expectations of her royal lineage, which dictate that she should conform to the stereotypical roles of a princess. Determined to defy this fate, Merida embarks on a daring quest that inadvertently plunges her kingdom into chaos.

Brave excels in its portrayal of familial relationships, particularly the dynamic between Merida and her mother, Queen Elinor. It does a good job showing of courage, independence, and the enduring love between a mother and her daughter. Their evolving bond and understanding form the emotional core of the story, a refreshing departure from the usual romantic narratives found in Disney princess films.

Pixar's animation is, as expected, an amazing capture of the Scottish landscapes are rendered with meticulous detail. And for 2012 the animation is fantastic. The attention to cultural authenticity adds depth and richness to the setting. Overall, a good Pixar film here.

Apologies for the camera quality hiccup. We were eager to test a new lens, but after the trial run, we decided to return it and opt for a different one. :)

Incredibles is on the list 🤙

Badd Medicine

Please, consider to watch "The Incredibles" (2004) animation movie in the future, if you didn't see it. It does have kinda adult themes like the "Up", but is more lightweight.

Artem Dmytrenko

I loooooooove Once Upon A Time!

Bri

Agreed with you, It was good movie and I did have a lot of fun but I also missed that "wooow" moment

Josip Buretić

I would not have anything against it if you would do more animated movies reactions

Josip Buretić

Yes I was wondering when the movie was almost done and the timer was on 1 hour I was like wait what will now happened some unexpected twist 🤣🤣

Josip Buretić

Fun fact: the voice actors for Merida (Kelly McDonald), Elinor (Emma Thompson), and Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane) were all Harry Potter actors! Kelly McDonald was Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter Helena, aka the Grey Lady, the ghost of Ravenclaw House, in Deathly Hallows Pt 2. Emma Thompson was Professor Sybil Trelawney, the Divination teacher. And Robbie Contrane was Hagrid.

Lena Herbert

That is on the list as well 😁

Badd Medicine

Those are also on the list 😁🤘

Badd Medicine

Such a great reaction as always. I’m glad it surprised you all. As someone who had a very controlling mother (who has since passed) and a turbulent relationship with her, this movie hits close to home.

Alanna Meyers

You guys should watch brother bear if you liked this one :)

jessie ashton

Love this movie. I love that they really leaned on the Mama Bear metaphor

Maggie Barbour

It's a good movie, but it somehow didn't trigger the heartbreaking feelings I've had with other Disney/Pixar films like Up, Souls, Coco, or Inside Out. Somehow, there was no wow moment for me. I don't know why. After the mother turned into the bear, I found the plot and message very predictable. But I can imagine that it is much more emotional for people who have a bad relationship with their parents. Maybe that's why it didn't touch me.

Caroline

Loving this! For an underrated show that slowly getting super popular. You guys HAVE to watch Yellowjackets.

Brittany Lewandowski

I don't know if you've looked it up or been told yet, but? It made around $500 million box office and there's no plans for a second movie. Pixar consider it a flop, because it didn't do as well as some of their other movies, I disagree. It wasn't generic and it had deeper meaning, obviously? Some youngsters won't get it. lol. The Jason Mamoa comparison cracked me up! Billy is perfect for the dad role though, he makes the movie for me! Great reaction guys, thank you, it was worth the wait - I honestly think you'll like Anastasia, and, as others have said, Treasure planet as well :)

☻Shell🎔⋆˚🐾˖°

Anastasia, I think they'll like too - great picks. Treasure planets underrated imo!

SilverDoe🎔

Really hope to see you guys react to Moana, Coco, or Soul in the future! Tangled, Brave, and those three above are my absolute faves. Frozen gets an honorable mention ofc.

Yen Shively

Haha... Whoops

Badd Medicine

The movie timer is an hour ahead, it's still synced tho but with an extra hour on it just found it funny haha

jace Z

Badd Medicine

I think the timer might he slightly off 😂

jace Z

I’ve suggested it for months. 🫤

Ginger

The TV series Once Upon a Time brought in the character of Merida and we saw her brothers as well as teenagers if you want to count that as an unofficial sequel.

Ginger

I love these recommendations, Brother Bear and Spirit hold such special places in my heart!!

Kaitlyn Twix

You guys should watch Encanto next!

Sheikh Yerbouti

I cant watch Spirit without balling my eyes out. Idk why but that movie just hits me different.

Alyssa Dyson

Ohhhh, this was a fantastic reaction! Thank you for this. :) I remember seeing this at the cinema and crying my eyes out; as someone who lost her mother as a child it really packs a punch. However, I do still watch this movie as a comfort watch from time to time (I’m 43 now) and love it each time — so to see you all react to this was a real treat. I wondered if anyone would recognise Dame Emma Thompson! Incidentally, I can recommend some of her period work if you want to explore more of her filmography — Sense and Sensibility (with Kate Winslet and the much-missed Alan Rickman), or Much Ado About Nothing (with Denzel Washington, Kenneth Branagh, Keanu Reeves, and others), perhaps. And yes! There IS a sequel to Brave. Disney decided to go a different route with it — and it’s a novel, entitled Bravely, by the talented Maggie Stiefvater. It only came out in 2022, but it follows Merida as she befriends and battles the Gods in order to save her kingdom, and find love, within the turning of one year. If you’re interested in other animated movies, then Rise of the Guardians (with Jude Law, Alec Baldwin, and Chris Pine) would be one to add to your list. It’s another comfort watch for me, and takes place in the winter, but a great watch at Christmas. Oddly enough, I tend to watch it back-to-back with The Holiday (with Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black). Thanks for the continued fantastic reactions, and have a great month ahead! :)

Heathwitch

Yes those recommendations are A+!!! Spirit has been one of my fav movies since I was young 🥹

rachele

Have y’all watched Encanto? I think that would be a good one

Brittany McGee

I have watched this film once before and thought it was really good. I wanted to rewatch it anyways because it has been such a long time and forgot almost all of it, so this came at a perfect time haha. This film really got me hooked. I did cry (like i always do xD), i really got pulled into the story, it was so entertaining. The storyline, was like you all metioned, one that has been known but it took a route i didnt expect. When Merida and her mother went into the old throne room, i actually got scared for a second there. And THE HUMOUR! the comedy and jokes were AMAZING. I think the best humour in a film i've seen, i thought it was that good and funny. I will give the this film a 4,2 and the comedy a 5+. If you want (animated) films with a unique storyline: - Brother bear - Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron - Tarzan - Treasure planet - Atlantis: the lost empire I personally think these have a unique storyline. Yes, maybe you now the story like Tarzan or people want to find Atlantis, but its very different from what i have seen in other films. Also, because its animated, they can do alot more with the visuals and the cinematogrophy in some is insane for a handdrawn animation.

AyaaChann

Badd Medicine

😂😂😂😂

Badd Medicine

What? An early animation? I thought i had to wait till the end of the month like usual haha! Nice suprise😊

AyaaChann

haven't seen this one since theaters!

Trey

Took me a bit to come around on the movie. It was portrayed as more of a mythical adventure when it's more of a run-of-the-mill "parent and child don't understand each other" movie with minimal mythical elements. It's good, but I was hoping for something that had more basis in actual Scottish mythology.

Jon

To say I'm excited for this is an understatement - Home in an hour, I'll put my feet up and get the snacks out! I'm so glad this is my Friday night movie!!!!

SilverDoe🎔

I haven’t watched this movie in years! oh this will be a fun watch, i remember loving it!

stephanie

Ooohh I can't wait to get home to watch this <3

Miss_CJ
