EARLY ACCESS: The Legend of Korra 1x1 FULL REACTION

Comments

I personally am so stoked for y'all to watch this. I have the highest of hopes that y'all will be among us in the minority that love this show just as much if not more than ATLA. It is a different show and y'all know that by now. I can't wait to see what y'all think about all the changes and storylines they decide to go with.

Samantha Blagec

YES LETS GOOOO

Señor Spicy

Well we know that nickelodeon proper messed around with the show, first they said they would get only 1 season so, in doing so the writers didn't have time to flesh out the characters. Season 2 was messed around with too and had budget cuts and I think season 3 was the only one that didn't have any issues and it turned out to be the best season.

Sheikh Yerbouti

I’m soooo excited to be back in the avatar universe ☺️☺️🥳 Korra gets a lot of shit but she’s a different human being than Aang. Different personality, different mentality, different approach, different trauma etc... in a different era, culture, and environment. I think that’s what people need to understand. She’s not Aang 2.0 and that’s ok. I love LoK bc LoK touches on heavier topics than ATLA. The ptsd, the healing journey, the self development… there’s a lot more complex character development. Season 3 & 4 are phenomenal.

rachele

Yes, I agree that it's not as "dire" compared to Aangs story. Aangs story was centered around a time of war essentially. With war it affects the progression of society and puts everything into a state of turmoil and they've been in that state for the past 100 years since he disappeared. Now with the war over, society can heal and turn towards a time of progress again and innovation like I guess the industrial revolution. Korra's journey comes into dealing with aiding the world into a new age and the challenges that come with it. I think it's a great contrast and realistic. I think these stories stand alone and are its own thing even with all the callbacks.

Amanda Pascall

Hell Yeah Kevin! We appreciate it.

Badd Medicine

A very weird take and it suggests you either didn't watch the series or went into it completely ignoring everything that contradicts this established idea. Anyway, Badd Medicine, don't let the haters put you off. Most people literally only hate on this show because it's not Ang and they dislike Korra's personality. The seasons may feel disjointed, but that's because they literally only had one season greenlighted at a time so they have to treat each season as if the whole show could just not be renewed and have to end it there. Honestly, there is some fantastic background we get into older Avatars (not going to spoil who) and some really cool subgenres of bending and using bending in more modern ways because of the technological advancement. Really keen to see you folks react to this!

fr0st

Very excited, love TLOK! Super excited for you guys to see all the absolutely bonkers fights and the new subtypes of bending!

fr0st

So very excited for you do to go on this journey!!!

Maybe not perfect sure Marco, but I'd say she's definitely the Mary Sue character that can never do anything wrong. The mentor is annoyingly always turns out to be wrong and Korra right. Nothing is ever her fault, and she'll always just be handed something to save her from facing any kind of consequences, ever. This whole modern trend of characters being told their shit by mentors (because they are shit). Only for the story to be like "believe in yourself" "you're perfect the way you are" "ignore the haters" "you were born with the power within you" and be the best at everything. Don't need no wiser older mentor or anyone for that matter for any kind of character development that makes a flawed hero relatable and likeable. Nah who needs such things for a good story am I right?

CRAZEH247

That's literally only Tenzin, because he's the only person that has any sense and won't take any shit from a spoiled teenager that thinks she's right all the time. TLOA = The Legend of Aang... how is that not clear? The sequel is literally only called The Legend of Korra because they weren't allowed to use the term Avatar anymore because James Cameron screwed the pooch.

CRAZEH247

Show isn't bad by any means but there is a reason some sequel shows get praise and some get backlash from amazing originals. ATLA is a 10/10 and a 7.5-8/10 solid sequel just doesn't compare

szeth

YESSSS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AFTER THE OG AVATAR, i love both shows personally find the original better maybe it’s nostalgia but it felt more whole as this series you can tell they wrote as they went which is totally fine it’s a great show and sequel to the original

Ryen Nino

You should rewatch the series, because you clearly weren't paying attention the first time.

Amy Petty

They're spoilers regardless of the fact they're not mentioned in the show. Come on. Bringing up details from the comics is still spoiling.

Amy Petty

Despite how much people will talk down about this show I think it is fantastic. Please ignore the haters Looking forward to seeing more! Especially as you approach seasons 3 & 4.

Zach Woodbury

what is TLOA? also did you miss the parts of the epsiode where her mentors are constantly telling her she's not as good as she thinks she is?

DalyDose

I really enjoy this show but it is pretty different from Avatar. One major thing is each season is basically its own contained story, it's not one overarching bigger story. For me personally, Season 1 is good, 2 is ok besides a couple of epic episodes, 3 is pretty awesome, and 4 is really solid. So I'm really interested to see how you like it and I'm excited to rewatch it with you guys!

Ivan Rasmussen

I'll definitely be watching this alongside you guys, but don't be surprised if this one doesn't do as well. It's a very polarizing show and people absolutely do not love it as much as ATLA. The writing for this one isn't nearly as strong and most of the characters are a miss more than a hit. Especially in the first season, there's a huge reliance on nostalgia and legacy characters, which is always a big sign that the quality is lower. For me personally, I think the show us isn't good. There's a lot of really really amazing ideas, but I don't think the showrunners had the talent to execute them well. Either the writing didn't incorporate them well, or they messed something up in the storyboarding process, or something else would happen. Either way, whatever cool concepts this show came up with were always invariably ruined.

Marco Gutierrez

She's not presented as perfect, but she IS presented as right. From the get go, she isn't portrayed as being in the wrong. She gets whatever she wants and even when she makes mistakes, she doesn't really suffer for it. The first half of the series is the pendulum swinging in her direction so heavily that she's 100% a Mary Sue. The second half of the series is the pendulum swinging so far in the other direction that it isn't fun to watch: she's just getting punished. You need a balance and ebb and flow of good and bad. And if you don't believe it, just look at what happened in the first episode: Korra wants to start airbending training, despite other stuff going on preventing that? Korra gets what she wants. She could have started off reading scrolls on spirituality and meditating to get in contact with the spiritual world with Katara helping her in that, but no. Korra wants to fish in the park despite it being illegal? Go ahead, you won't be punished. Korra wants to get in a fight with some local gangsters? Go ahead, you won't be punished. And yes, make no mistake: a fight is what she was looking for. She wasn't trying to help, she was just looking for an excuse to fight. She's supposed to be super competent in combat, and yet the collateral damage she does is huge. If she's so skilled, she could hold back and use precise strikes to keep the damage to a minimum. She even gets to abuse her connections to get away with the crime instead of personally seeing to the repairs or raising the money to pay for the damages.

Marco Gutierrez

I didn’t really spoil anything as it’s obvious aangs personality Is different from Korra. it’s not mentioned at all about tophs metal bending school / police Acadamy or how aang and appa die. As for there being a new bad each season I didn’t really spoil that either as I saw it in a previous comment, plus it’s not revealing anything that major.

Raquel Perodin

...This is a bizarre take. Korra isn't even remotely presented as perfect, much less a genius.

Amy Petty

...Why all the spoilers...????

Amy Petty

I would strongly recommend picking it back up. Seasons 3 and 4 are extremely well done. S2 is well recognized as the weakest of all four but the last two are solid.

Amy Petty

SO HYPED

Viral

All of us out here did not love it. I loved Last Airbender. This series I thought started out ok, but I feel it greatly misses the charm of Airbender. And this series really ticked me off in season 2 which made me give up the series and not keep watching it.

Ginger

Personally, I really hate how they ruined a lot of what Legend of Aang stands for. Maybe you guys will like the series. It just ruins a lot of the life lessons that TLOA. Stuff like you're not born with everything in your hands and have to work extremely hard to achieve a status in life. TLOK straight from the bat is ruined with Korra as she's the most perfect girl ever to be born and is such a genius. Despite that somehow behaves in the worst manners, and makes terribly dumb mistakes during the show. This show feels like it was made for the modern edgy teen, whilst TLOA can be enjoyed by everyone. But... I guess it's just a cartoon at the end of the day.

CRAZEH247

Really excited for this reaction! It’s hard not to compare LOK to ATLA but as its own show it’s very good. Can’t wait for you to meet the rest of the characters! There was some drama behind the scenes with the production and Nickelodeon. Initially LOK was suppose to be one season but Nick requested a second season while they were finishing working on season one. During production of season two the studio went back and forth saying season two would be the last then asking for one or two more seasons. I think season three aired on tv but season four only aired on Nick’s website. The first two seasons each are pretty self contained story-wise (due to not knowing if there would be another season). Seasons three and four tell a continuous story and in my opinion are the strongest seasons of the show. Despite all the studio drama you guys are still in for a super fun ride!

Lauren

AOT will be following Korra 👍

Badd Medicine

I thought Attack on Titan was next? what made you switch. Was it to much gore with boys so you need something light hearted to balance. I think its a good idea But Titan will get your channel alot of views. Check out other channels for reference.. its big.

TinCan Cosmanaut

Oh sweet we are at Korra!!!! So excited for this journey yeah Aang and Korra are opposites in personality. With Aang people wanted him but he wasn’t there for some time. With Korra shes there but people dont really want her. So its a new set of challenges. Korra hard always had people taking care of her so she never needed any money. Toph created a school to teach people metal bending and she created the police academy and was in charge of that. Thats why her statue is there. There’s a new villain each season because they weren’t sure if it would be picked up for a following season. Aang died early because he was frozen in the ice for so long and it took a toll on his body While he did not feel the effects for many years, after he entered middle age in his 50s, the strain of this exertion increasingly weighed upon his body. Ultimately, it resulted in Aang dying at the relatively young biological age of 66 (since he was in the ice for 100 years, in 153 AG) appa died shortly because of his bond with aang (spiritual connection) and the same affects of being stuck in the ice plus the grief of losing aang.

Raquel Perodin

Love that you guys are getting into Korea now. Oak was quick to pick up on the difference between Aang and Korra in terms of having access to people that can train them. I believe I read that it was Aang made a point later in his life of making all the arrangements with the White Lotus to protect and train the next avatar after he was gone.

Charles Grimes

Oh, I agree. The story between Seasons 3 and 4 is some of the best writing across both Avatar series.

Amy Petty

Very insightful I appreciate it! 😁

Miss_CJ

I think Nickelodeon has gone through some of the comics including the story of Zuko's mom on YouTube, so you watch it.

Oulianor Timothee

The Animation in this is beautiful.

Oulianor Timothee

Boy the excitement when I say this post!! For once I'm gonna keep my opinions to myself, I'm just happy for the ride! This was a great reaction, can't wait for more. 😀

Oulianor Timothee

Yeah, I think it's a given that sky bison naturally connect with human airbenders in a fundamentally deeper way, due obviously to that relationship. But it doesn't follow that every nation has to have that same kind of relationship with any given animal. You don't see this with Earthbenders, after all. Toph just happened to connect closely with badger moles because she got lost in some caves. And there's no similar kinship between firebenders and dragons, either, outside of the Sun Warrior cult. But where the Water Tribes are concerned there's no animal connection at all. If anything, that's a pretty conspicuous difference between waterbenders and the others: they're the ONLY people whose spiritual connection to bending originated from a celestial body rather than an animal.

Amy Petty

I promise, it isn't. There's a general sense that the second season is pretty weak relative to the other three, but the series as a whole is solid. From a production standpoint, the writers didn't expect to have more than one season. They were greenlit for a second season at some point near the last few episodes of this one. And then from what I understand, they were approved for two more seasons at some point during the second one.

Amy Petty

Thanks for correcting me, but that's just what I always thought. I think my point was only hinting a sky bison was very unlikely to "connect spiritually" with a waterbender, well not in the same way an airbender can bond as a lifelong companion with a sky bison that is. But again, i may be wrong, that's just how I understood things. My bad then.

Miss_CJ

But what you asserted is that polar bear dogs are where the waterbenders got their bending, and that's not true. And I don't know where you're getting that the polar bear dog is an important spirit animal for the Water Tribes, because there's no mention of that anywhere at all. Korra is the ONLY person who keeps one as a pet.

Amy Petty

Yes, there's several Korra wikis; the most "official" one is probably the Avatar wiki as part of fandom.com, though. But the story of what happened to Zuko's mother is exclusively in the comics.

Amy Petty

Oh, I'm so stoked for this one. Overall, series against series, I think ATLA is the superior one, but there are certain storylines within Korra that personally I found more compelling in certain respects. Moreover, the central question, asking what the relevance is of an Avatar in the modern world, makes for an entirely different kind of conflict to address than Aang's classic hero's journey from the previous series.

Amy Petty

Also it's 4 seasons, 52 total episodes. I think the breakdown is 12, 14, 13 and 13 across the 4 seasons.

Bobby Kraus

And another amazing adventure begins! The journey all of the characters you're about to meet go on has incredible challenges and beautiful moments of growth like ATLA, *amazing* world-building, and some really interesting antagonist motivations. There are more ups and downs in the storytelling than Avatar for sure, but the pure essence of the original show is there throughout and I think it'll be a great time for all of you!

Bobby Kraus

It's likely to be one mostly. There will probably be weeks that 2 drop. But mostly likely never more than 2. Currently, we are dropping some kind of content everyday. More of a stacked schedule then we had during our run for Airbender. 🤙

Badd Medicine

Will it be 1 ep per week or will you start reacting to 3 eps per week next week like you did for The Last Airbender?

Anna Du

Ahh yes it was the Moon who gave them the knowledge to waterbend, taught them, but Polar beardogs are a bit of the water tribes' animal, which once tamed, they use as pets and means of transportation. Just like Sky bisons are the airbenders' animal, are pets and used as means of transportation.

Miss_CJ

That’s ok with Korra though bc she has less episodes.

Stephanie Hundley

It was the moon for the waterbenders, not the polar beardogs.

MannyJ

Loved watching all your ATLA reactions, I knew it would grow on all of you! While I will miss the ‘I know some crazy awesome shit is about to go down’ looks from Answer, I’m actually glad he hasn’t seen this one! I was skeptical going in, but Korra blew me away, it’s so much better than I thought it would be! Seasons 3 and 4 are the best IMO, but seasons 1 and 2 have some of my favorite episodes EVER, and sooo many great characters in this show too!

Stephanie Hundley

Multiple episodes in the YT Cuts👍

Badd Medicine

It's not mentioned in the show, but due to the time in the iceberg Aang died early at 66.

Jam

Zuko Mom story is found in the graphic novel called the search. A great read as are all the comics of ATLA. There's omnibuses and library editions you can find with them instead of getting just single individual comics and a reading order online if you guys would be interested.

Jam

I'm pretty certain it was mentioned but in the Last Airbender is that each type of bender has a spiritual animal that is at the origin of the bending of their respective element. Firebenders have the dragons, Airbenders have the sky bisons, Earthbenders have the badgermoles and finally, the Waterbenders have the polar beardogs. Since Korra's roots are those of a waterbender, her spirit animal is a polar beardog. Just a quick note. Edit: Just ignore my comment, I seem to be wrong. My bad.

Miss_CJ

I really love this show as much as ATLA, but in a completely different way.

Jam

im ready im ready!!!!!

GodKingSosa

Seeing that statue of Aang brings a tear to my eye every time. Super excited for the rest of this show!

Camidian

So excited!!! Will you be doing the same drop like atla with the multiple episodes in one vid for YT

Alli Flipse

We are excited and looking forward to this journey

Badd Medicine

It's likely to be one mostly. There will probably be weeks that 2 drop. But mostly likely never more than 2. We are dropping something pretty much everyday. As you said, stacked schedule. 🤜🤛

Badd Medicine

YESS! I was so excited to see this in my inbox! Can't wait to watch this with yall! Plenty of people are quick to say that ATLA is better, but honestly, they're just two different shows, both with their own merits. Korra is a different era and was meant to target a slightly older audience so it understandably has a different vibe. I say go in with an open mind, and you'll enjoy it. So excited you guys are finally here!

JessTellsTales

Is one episode a week going to be the standard for the series? It's perfectly fine if it is, I understand you have a stacked schedule, but I personally would rather wait for the youtube release if that's the case. Keep up the good work guys :)

Sintara

Is there like a some sort of Wiki online for Korra?

Badd Medicine

The story of Zukos mom can be found in the comics and it is amazing. Such a cool and honestly tragic story that I hope the new movie covers!

Abigail.M

🤜🤛

Badd Medicine

Looking forward to those!

Badd Medicine

We just hope it isn't like Airbender the live action film 😂🤘

Badd Medicine

Let's goooooo

Badd Medicine

Grew up with both ATLA and Korra (literally the same age of each protagonist as they were airing), and while Korra has more ups and downs than ATLA, I truly love this show and hope you guys enjoy the ride!

DalyDose

oh my god i can’t wait for them to see the amazing fighting sequences with the new animation style 🤭

Angie H.

this is such a special series, i’m sure ya’ll with fall in love with it too‼️

Angie H.

No way!! its here. Just don't have your expectations high and youll enjoy it. If you go in expecting Airbender you'll be disappointed, but you should enjoy the series.
