EARLY ACCESS: Haunting of Bly Manor 1x9 FINALE FULL REACTION

Apologies for the blur and Diamond Dave's sneezing.

The Finale..... and some of us were let down just a bit. The show's signature slow-burn storytelling style is on full display as it ties up loose ends. The finale packs a little bit of a emotional punch as the characters face their demons and come to terms with the tragedies that have haunted them. The writing is superb, delivering a poignant and powerful message about love, loss, and letting go. The music is haunting and atmospheric, adding an extra layer of depth to the show's already immersive world.

The performances are exceptional, with Victoria Pedretti delivering a standout performance as Dani, the show's lead. Her emotional range and depth are showcased in this episode, and she brings a sense of vulnerability and strength to the character. Great job by all the cast and crew!

Overall, not a bad one to watch. We definitely would recommend it to anyone.

What was your reaction to the finale? Agree with Oak?

EARLY ACCESS: Haunting of Bly Manor 1x9 FINALE FULL REACTION

Comments

I have to agree with Oak, what was this ending, super confused

Steven Warner

Honestly the “horror” was wrapped up within the first 12 minutes and then it turned into a love story, i was not expecting it at all either

Steven Warner

I think the people at the party are the next generation. The people at the party were never told these stories about their parents. That's why different actors are used. They are not the same people. That said, by this interpretation, why wouldn't the bride say "my mother's name is Flora"? Would it make sense if the bride is Flora's granddaughter instead of daughter?

Tim Wright

I think she is telling them the stories of their parents or grandparents. The parents never told the next generation about these events. Therefore, this generation would not recognize anything from the story. For example, the bride is Flora's daughter. The bride's mother(or father) never told her these stories about Bly Manor. Thats why they can use different actors for people at the party. The man at the wedding is Owen's son, so of course he is portrayed by another actor.

Tim Wright

The end makes more sense if we assume that the people at the wedding are descendants of the people she knows. The woman's middle name is Flora because she got this from her mother. Or grandmother? The people don't recognize the events because they are about their parents. Remember the conversation at the restruant where she asked whether the kids would be told the stories, and the answer was "would you?" The people of the party don't recognize her story because their parents never told them. Thats why they use different actors for Owen and the others at the party, she doesn't see them dancing. She is remembering the people she knew. The only part that wouldn't make sense is why the bride doesn't say "Flora" is my mother's name. Did they say who she is in episode 1? Who do they think they invited? I'll have to re-watch that

Tim Wright

I think they have mentioned they might do it but no announcements that I'm aware of

Michael Riley

are they doing it next? i just found the channel and binged their hill house reactions but i didn't like bly manor as much and midnight mass is my favorite so that would be awesome!!

Ishan Deulkar

Now, who tells a story like that at a gathering?

Ron Banks

One of those heavy monologue scenes is actually my favorite of the show. And Midnight Mass is my favorite of the three series.

Ana DeSelby

I loved the series as a whole but I was disappointed in the ending too. I also thought the British accents by Carla Gugino and Henry Thomas were terrible and distracting.

Alicia

Yes, and he will write the script as well!😁 It's called 'The Life of Chuck' and tonally it's supposed to be like Stand by me, Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

Stephanie

Less than 24 hours 🤘😁

Badd Medicine

time frame for YT cut early access of 5-6?

Nick Edwards

I really loved this series for how different it just is--the twist of the narrator crew being the folks in the story made me cry the first time I watched it. It speaks to a bigger message of the story in how important stories and memories are--the stories people tell themselves v. the stories people remember. Also, all the adults remember everything. Just the kids don't remember.

Veronica

I think the biggest flaw of this series is that it is a successor to Hill House. Watching Hill House first everyone goes in with such high expectations, but Bly is a completely different story, tonally as technically, that it really loses in the comparison. I really loved Bly- is it as good as Hill House? No. But I think it would be rated more favorably if Hill House wasn't the scale on which it was measured. Still really hoping for Midnight Mass!

Ginster

Mike is directing it?! 👀👀👀👀

Badd Medicine

Same here haha. I'm not a huge fan

Liam

There is coming a Stephen King adaptation starring Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill! And who is gonna direct it? Mike Flanagan! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THAT MOVIE.

Stephanie

It is common to loose accents like that. My sister grew up in London up until she was eleven, then we all moved to Wales. Its a heavy, notable accent, I have family all over the ''West country'' so I know the difference. I was slightly older and moved back to London when I was sixteen, she stayed there, and within a few years got the Welsh accent, which she has to this day :) I never lost my London accent because I left. Its entirely possible, given they were so young as well. Even Jamie didn't always sound from ''up North'' which is also a thick accent. You caught it, yes, not as strong as when she was in England though after living in the states herself.

I really liked this series. Such a sad story. None of the adults seem to recover after they lose their loved ones. I'm not sure how common it is for kids to lose their accents but I guess the writers did that to throw the audience off. But all in all a great story. Please review Midnight Mass, now that story is a good conversational piece.

Jamie changed details of the story — like when she first finished the story and the woman asked if she were to go to Bly if she would see the Lady in the lake, and Jamie responded that she would find no such place. So she changed the location/name of the summer home too in her retelling of the story. The way Owen looks at the end IS how Owen actually looked, but she described everyone slightly different (like using Flora’s middle name).

Laur

I'm sure that Henry and Owen remember it all and expected the story to happen. Take note of the looks they gave her as they were leaving the room. There was also some implication that details in Jamie's story were changed by her. The novella that this is based on, The Turn of the Screw, the story is also being told by a narrator at a Christmas Eve party, although there is no connection to the family like there was in this adaptation.

For Midnight Mass we wait

Michael Riley

I’m with oak😅😅 that ending was like huh? I love heavy spoilers I also watch him when I finish any show that’s confusing

Lily

My believe is that throughout the story the names the gardener used were not really their names, the only one she left in was flora I guess for us to hint that it was actually them all grown up at the end, so in reality we do not know the real characters names only the fake ones she says in the story. Also, yes the adults remember but if you notice on the conversation they had in Owens restaurant he says the uncle for what it seems like he won’t tell the kids what happened in Bly EVER. So even tho they know that what the Gardener is actually saying it’s true and she is telling their actual story, they aren’t going to be like hey that’s me, lol, because they want to keep it as something that never happened. Those are my two cents I have never seen midnight mass and I am saving it to watch it along with you guys, Love your reactions

Whitney Ulerio Duverna

I get what you guys mean about the ending - I just keep thinking of Stephen King's IT - They move away as kids and forget by the time they're adults. Its possible by that standard I guess. Perhaps she twisted a lot so it didn't seem familiar to them. I loved the series, it was never imo going to beat Hill house but? It wasn't awful. Great reaction, I'm glad I watched it with you guys. Thank you it was fun :)

☻Shell🎔⋆˚🐾˖°

Laughing because Mason Quinn was as in denial about the ending actually being those people as Dave was about Hannah being dead 😂 I always took the story being told as Jamie changed the name for Flora in her story and used her middle name, which she probably did the same for Miles and everyone else. And I always thought that a lot of why the kids don't remember is because they were "tucked away" in memories for so much of their time at Bly and the more traumatic stuff they were awake for they've repressed. The manor may not even be called Bly, which Jamie hints at when she talks to that one lady in the room at the end of her story, "I would suspect that if you were to fly to England, you would find no such place by that name." And then she looks toward Owen and Henry, the only two other people who know the truth.

Alex Boatman

(Bly lovers - I love that you love this one, it just wasn't for me. No disrespect to your preferences!) I agree completely. Imo the ending made little sense and had too many loopholes - granted names, etc, had been changed by "Jamie" but, yes, Bly was disappointing for me too. I liked it but it's my least favorite of the three and very far down compared to the other two. I know you all have been disappointed with both series finales so far but I URGE you to give Midnight Mass a try. Apart from two rather long, indulgent monologues lol (I still liked them though) I honestly don't get why it's not higher on people's lists. It's a fast clip of a story, gory and tense, so so interesting with powerful lessons throughout. I love stories that delve into themes of organized religion (specifically Catholicism) and the nature of faith/belief; I think you three would really enjoy it -- I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you guys like it best of the three. Please try it, don't give up yet! 🤞😂

Oak has it right. It was them at the end. The uncle had invited Jamie to the wedding. They had to use different-looking people otherwise it would've given everything away. The adults remember, but the kids don't.

Eryn Young

hello! I am the BIGGEST Bly Manor fan and got so excited when I saw you guys were going to be reacting to this. I have watched the show from beginning to end 13 times (feel free to ask any questions!) The end makes me cry like a baby every single rewatch and it is my favorite ghost/love story. Loved the reactions and I hope it was an enjoyable watch for you guys :) P.S. Owen and Henry did know! I think they just really wanted to hold the reveal of Flora until she said it herself - but agreed they could have done that differently! Oak being mad about Owen looking different was making me laugh 😂 You guys should look at the guy they casted as James Marsden younger version in the movie "The Best Of Me." I get just as heated about that like Oak did here. It is the most hilarious young/older casting I've ever seen

Lani Meneses

I'm so glad still that you guys enjoyed the series. It definitely hits differently in comparison to Hill House, but after re-watching it a few times and really seeing all the clues and following all the little details that are added throughout, I've come to appreciate it just as much as Hill House. It makes me cry everytime. Also, it would be awesome if you guys could react to Sense8! It's an amazing series that you guys will enjoy to its fullest. An anthem to humanity you can't miss.
