2023-08-01 19:48:15 +0000 UTCI'm excited for this one! I originally passed on the book even though I loved the trilogy. After seeing the trailer, I can't wait so I'm reading the book while waiting for the movie(and rewatching the first four movies because they're quite good adaptations imo).

2023-05-03 10:16:43 +0000 UTCI wasn't all that interested in this one since I never read the book for it because it felt like a cash grab to me because it came out after the series got popular, but it's hard to turn down a chance to see Peter Dinklage do his work. A few things I caught regarding what you guys were talking about: They said Snow was playing the role of mentor which is what Haymitch was in the main series. Mentors are previous victors that are supposed to teach the tributes how to win the game. The way they introduced him, though, made it seem like this is a new position. With regard to the bow, it's the same bow that Katniss did after her archery demonstration in the first movie. It's a bow of defiance, not pride. It's kind of annoying that they chose to copy it instead of just come up with a new thing. It seems more like nostalgia bait to me. The host's last name is Fliclerman, which was the last name of the host in the modern time line. Most likely they're related. The interesting thing though is that he said he's the first host. I think this means this is the first time that the games have been available for the public to view. Most likely before this, it was just a simple quiet affair, but now they brought in camera equipment and televisions to force everyone in the districts to watch, which would mean this is the Hunger Game that changed everything. That would also explain why they were trying to get all the tributes to be comfortable with each other by giving them a lake to play in or whatever. It makes it more painful when they have to kill each other. Like I said, I've never read the book so these are just my speculations. I'm definitely more interested in watching this now.

Also great catch Oak about Lucy and the bow! I’m not sure if you guys recall Katniss doing almost the exact same bow in Catching Fire after doing her “talent demonstration” to the gamemakers where Katniss hung the dummy and wrote Seneca Crane on it. There’s a lot of similarities between Lucy and Katniss that people have been noticing in the trailer but none confirmed or directly paralleled 🤔 I wonder what Snow thinks about that 😳

2023-05-02 02:49:37 +0000 UTCSnow is a mentor! In the books, the first 9 games were just a slaughter with no mentors at all. The kids were thrown into an arena with rubble and that was it. This will be the first year where mentors are added, and they try to make it more of a “spectacle” for viewers. I think they start making victors be mentors later on when there are more of them who can be mentors. For this book, he was basically in college and competing against his classmates who also were given kids to mentor in the games. These games changed it all.

Because books are always better and everytime I read a book first, I'm always disappointed by the adaptation. 😆😆 So I like to watch first when possible.
