EARLY ACCESS: A Knights Tale FULL REACTION

This film is a true gem that deserves to be celebrated for its charm, wit, and heart. The cast is exceptional, with Heath Ledger giving a charming and charismatic performance as William. Supporting performances by Paul Bettany, Mark Addy, and Rufus Sewell are equally impressive, each bringing a unique flavor to their respective roles.

The film's use of modern music, including classic rock hits, adds a fun and unexpected twist to the medieval setting, and the jousting sequences are nothing short of thrilling. The humor is also on point, with witty one-liners and hilarious sight gags that will have viewers laughing out loud.

But what truly sets "A Knight's Tale" apart is its heart. The film is ultimately a story about friendship, loyalty, and following one's dreams, and it is executed with a genuine warmth and sincerity that is both refreshing and touching. Overall, "A Knight's Tale" is an absolute joy of a film!

Might be a little late to the party... but I love the movie and when I saw it in the archive I had to watch along. The modern music is such a deliberate thing, just as fans chanting we will rock you at a sports stadium today is fairly common practice, fans of jousting would be doing the same with their equivalent song, the minstrels and bards of the time were rock stars in their own right. Same with the face paint, flags, food and chants... A Knights Tale is a sports movie at is core, mixed with a romcom and is great for it. Oh and Paul Bettany cuts a cracking promo.

YES! Mask of Zorro ! One of my fav movies as a teen :)

About the "lose for love" then "don't lose again" scenes: Not only does it really prove his love, but it also shows how Jocelyn, unlike women of her time, could count, add, and keep track of a score. She was paying attention to the sport. Other "ladies" didn't' necessarily do this. Since she was able to judge the limit of losses he could take before he had to turn around and win everything and could still come out on top, Jocelyn was able to show her own intelligence. And this was not stated, but the fact that he still loved her, also showed he didn't mind her intelligence.

Oh, and the dance/ dinner party scene in which Rufus Sewell (the rival knight Adhamar (I know I spelt that wrong)) looks so sick as he walks out of the banquet hall . . . Rufus Sewell was sick with a very bad case of either the flu or pneumonia, I can't recall which. Also, his character was supposed to be tone deaf so didn't understand everyone loving music and dancing. (I own the script and it fills in so many missing details that wound up on the cutting room floor.)

Not sure how many people realized that Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany's character) was THE Geffrey Chaucer. The writer of "The Canterbury Tales" which contained famous stories such as "The Tale of The Duchess," "The Tale of the Knight," "The Tale of Peter the pardoner," and others. Chaucer was one of the oldest known literary geniuses of English history, an author of some of the oldest surviving works of literature in the European world. Thus, when he refers to certain things like writing about the loan sharks to shame them, this refers to that particular set of tales. The screenwriter wrote this because Hollywood kept refusing to let him direct movies. So, he wrote his own and directed it himself. Thus, "A Knight's Tale" reflects the real world struggle of the director, too.

I completely agree about The Mask Of Zorro! It is so good! Antonio was meant to play Zorro. He and Katharine had amazing chemistry.

I love this movie, it's funny with such great characters, like you guys mentioned they are so much fun, you want to hang out with them. And Heath of course was great, for me his shining moments were when he refused to run before he's arrested and his reunion with his father, that is such a powerful and beautiful scene. And I do love as well that there wasn't this big dramatic scene with Joseline finding out the truth about him, she honestly didn't care at al, money and status didn't mean anything to her. I love in the end that at first you think she's not there because maybe she's still mad at him or something but no she was getting his father and it was great to seem them already becoming close. I just wished they showed him celebrating with his father at the end, it has always felt a little awkward when she just leaves him instead of taking him with her, lol. I also wish they gave us more Kate, she was such an interesting character but didn't get her very much to do. And also Roland definitely had a thing for Joseline's maid or whoever she was suppose to be, every time they showed her walking up to them he would perk up or fix his hair or something, I wish they did more with that too. But I gotta say, I think Paul steals this movie, every scene he's in is gold and his interactions with Alan are hilarious, they are so funny together. He has so more energy and charisma.

One of my absolute favs! Thoroughly enjoyed watching y’all react to it & laugh right along with you πŸ‘ lmao Medieval Times is one of my favorite places 🀣 Been there for like 4 birthdays in different cities each time - including my 1/4 of a Century birthday (what we all called my 25th haha). And now, one of my friends works there as a narrator πŸ˜† Tons of fun and great job as always! πŸ”₯ Oh! And the actor who plays Roland is Robert in season 1 of Game of Thrones lol

The only other time Ive ever seen the female lead in another movie was 40 Days and 40 Nights with Josh Hartnett. Not sure if that’s what movie the Answer was trying to remember her from or not. Great movie though lol ✌🏻

ThunderBeast

Love & Monsters! It blew past my expectations when I watched it- I love that movie!

Cara Fernandez

Love and monsters might happen in May? Not 100% sure yet.

My parents watched this movie soooo many times when I was growing up lol my dad would quote "it's a lance...helloooo" all the time πŸ˜‚ I love this movie so much and your reaction was so fun! If you want some more really fun rom-coms I would suggest Warm Bodies (def some actors you'll recognize), Clueless (also lots and lots of 90s actors to recognize lol), or Love and Monsters which has Dylan O'Brien from the maze runner

Wow! Ok, let me correct that: It took years that someone informed me that the bad guy was NOT Jude Law in A Knight's Tale πŸ˜† Thank you so much for informing me! I've been wrong (thinking I was right) for YEARS! DAMN 🀣

Mone

The actor who plays Adhemar is actually named Rufus Sewell, and he’s a great actor in his own right, although I totally get confusing him for Jude Law. Coincidentally enough, he also plays the villain character in the sequel to The Mask of Zorro (a sequel which is pretty terrible, and I do not recommend watching, but he does his best in it with what he’s given). But I will also fully endorse this crew watching the first one, it’s one of my all time favorites and hardly anyone has reacted to it for some reason.

Derek Jolstead

Watching now ❀ Haven't watched this in a long time. I remember when it released it was one of my favorites!

Sarah

LOVED IT! Thank you so much for the reaction πŸ₯° Also, not me screaming at the display 'THAT'S YOUNG DUMBLEDORE!' when you asked where you knew the bad guy from πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ It took me years to realise that Jude Law played the bad guy in this movie so I get the confusion πŸ˜‹ He's also great in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Another amazing movie with an amazing soundtrack! Can really recommend that movie if you haven't watched it! I also saw an8ther comment who recommended 'Zorro' and I was like YEEES PLS!!

Mone

🫢🏻 never watched this but im giving it a chance for heath ledger!

stephanie

Ahhhhhhh!! One of my top 10 films!!! Can’t wait to watch as soon as I’m back home after this Easter vacation with family haha

Angelina

This reaction was fabulous, guys. You made me so happy. This is one of my favorite movies. I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it. I also really love your written review for this one. It's perfect, and every word is well deserved. It's too bad you've seen Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. That would have been a great reaction to see. I have a recommendation. You should watch The Mask of Zorro. It's really good, and I think you three would love it. It has a similar tone to Robin Hood, but with bits of comedy like this one. Plus, Kathrine Zeta Jones is gorgeous in it. You guys would probably really enjoy that part. LOL Can't wait for more from you, especially the coming Planet of the Apes movie. Until next time, see you in the lists. :D

Raven Dark

Hey Fellas, I also love this movie and the crew. Heath is amazing and I wasn’t sure if you recognized Roland. You mentioned Game of Thrones and he was Robert Baratheon. Alan Tudyk also played Wash on Firefly and Kate, the armorer played Lydia on Breaking Bad. She worked at Madrigal.

Tara

The flying "wood" for the lances was actually made out of dry pasta!

Natasha Sullivan

Thank you so much for this reaction! I think I had a smile on my face the whole time watching this! It made it a great friday night for sure! You guys always have such amazing reactions and banging movie choices! Keep doing great work and having good chats! Can't wait for other reactions to come!

JiaHailstorm

AHHHHHHHH! WHY DID I ONLY SEE THIS NOW! I wanna watch it right away, but it's already late here 😭 Ok, now I know what I'm doing tomorrow after work πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚ This is one of my fav movies and I'm so happy you watched it! (I recommended it in the 10 Things I Hate About You reaction video πŸ’•) πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Mone

A knights tale is one of my all time favorites! I watched it so many times growing up. It's been a while since I've watched it now so I can't wait for this reaction!!!

JiaHailstorm

'It's called a lance. HELLO!' XD I will never miss an opportunity to quote this movie. So happy you guys watched this. It was a blast enjoying it again with you guys. Maybe 'Casanova' next in the Heath Ledger-a-thon? ;) Edit: Oh, also! A cool note: Paul Bettaney's character was inspired by the real Engllish poet Geoffrey Chaucer. When he tells those two dept collectors that he'll take his vengeance on them by 'eviscerating them in fiction', the real Geoffrey Chaucer really did write two characters of their description in one of is works. I thought that was a really cool detail. Thanks again for the content!

Had to be done lol - And I was right - A perfectly splendid reaction!
